A lot of times if you're really strong you've got to figure some of this stuff out for yourself. Not a whole lot of people are going to tell you in practice you shouldn't let people tire you out; they just say you should increase your conditioning. Which is all well and good, but it's still hard when you're the one likely to tire first no matter what. Weight classes matter a fair bit, too. Wrestling in the "unlimited" weight class meant I had to try to tire out the big monsters first; cutting weight to get into the next weight class down meant I was the big monster who had to watch out to not get tired. I suspect it's the same for other combat sports.

this: its a bit of a mixed blessing to be a powerhouse (i am one) because people want you to have insane cardio which wont happen, or drop huge weight which also wont happen, and sparring is awful because you have to hold back a lot often losing speed because you dont want to KO partners. my only comment is on phrasing, sometimes Strength and Power are not so closely linked, there are fighters who do not have a lot of strength but do have good power and the other way also. or you could look at it as like speed/explosive strength and 'slow' strength
@catcatcatcatcatcatcatcatcatca3 жыл бұрын
This series is so good. Especially this video touches on wider topics about strenght and effective use of it. I see that many strong punchers in boxing gain the control quite early in most bouts - their opponents stop committing and start walking away while trying to find safe opportunities with their jab. I find this dynamic interesting - I assume it's just the threat of counter punch dictating what exchanges play out, but it's so weird to see someone walking flatfooted, with guard up, mostly making minimal faints, and yet always receive so much respect. Are you planning to cover other traits, such as better than normal reflexes/general agility (you know, the matrix thing some great boxers seem to pull of consistently), and other advantages not defined by just body proportions alone. Or are they less about ones natural strenghts and more about determined training.
