1. Have great cardio, or at least better cardio then your opponent. 2. Stay calm and focused so you can cleanly execute your skill-set. To assist in getting calm is doing chill padwork before the fight. 3. Have strong defense so that even if you only have a couple of significant strikes, your opponent doesn't get any strikes at all. 4. Throw your shots to land specific targets and aim to surprise your opponents. If they don't immediately have openings, create openings through combinations

Victory tip #1 is so damn true. I just did an IKF where I won my first bracket via decision, but the fight left me so gassed that even with an hour rest between, I was so tired that a lot of my fight IQ went out the window in my second fight, and my opponent was fresh and had not fought because it was a 3 man bracket. My hands dropped after a teep I overcommitted on and then he dropped me Next time you talk to Icy Mike ask him about Austin's fight he was commentating it lol

Sorry Gabriel but no matter how many of your videos I watch the Wife still wins lol. I would like your opinion on something that doesnt get brought up much, and that is how much the environment and not just the fight affects your performance. For example some rings are built different with padding and such. Also some fights for me were under darker lights than others, just little things like this that most dont take into account or mostly will never know was a thing. Not only do I have to focus on traveling to the arena, my gameplan, which spot on the fight card am I, my opponent, the rules, language barrier(if there is one) pre med checks, but now the environment that Im in. Some promotions even have you do some theatrics or showcasing to boot. Thank you for sharing some of your insight with us and for promoting a positive community in the fighting world.

indeed friend same as me i have a smoker 4/15 the biggest difference between last fight camp and this one is my cardio both on improving it and maintain it during sparring by being calm and collected and it has help a lot sometimes i still get a little nervous or scared but that usually against the pros at my gym or heavy opponents start fatiguing myself but the way i get around it is i tell myself you might get hit but if so your gunna hit them harder and more in return (not really harder in sparring) and doing so has help me significantly

Thank you, Champ. I saved this to one of my playlists. I'm a very dedicated and true boxer that actively competes. I love your tips, Gabriel. Also two of my biggest influences as a boxer are Ronald "Winky" Wright and Dmitry Bivol. They are very fundamentally sound boxers, with great technique, that stay defensively responsible. I also utilize a high guard defense. Both fighters have shot gun jabs, and are very relaxed. Another thing that I do Gabriel, is I have downloaded some of Winky Wright's fights and Bivol's fights. I watch them after or before I train at .50 of 1/2 the normal speed. This helps me visualize what I will do, and be more effective and creative in the boxing ring. Thanks and God bless you.

Lack of composure cost me my first fight. My first fight I started super calm but when I got hit too hard, my mind suddenly went blank and I tried to get payback. I got too aggressive, got hit unnecessarily, used up too much energy. It happened too many rounds and I lostby decision. It was awhile before I fought again, had to master myself and how I maintain focus.

Excellent video. I haven't had any fights, but all of these help me spar much better than my actual skill level should allow 😅 (Also love how these feed into each other; at least for me, being mindful to think through what I'm doing also helps me to stay calm and keep defensive awareness, both of which help me leverage my good stamina to wear my partners down 🙂)

Tip #1 and Tip #2 are sooooo important for up and coming amateur or pro fighters. I learned this the hard way in my first/debut kick boxing match. I went out guns blazing in the first round completely lost my composure because I was desperate for the knock out, didn’t even bother sitting on my punches, ended up gassing out by the end of it, and was entirely on the defense round 2 and 3 because of how gassed out I was. lost the fight by decision. I do believe I was much more skilled than the opponent I was facing but in the end it didn’t matter because 1 he had better cardio than me, and 2 he kept his composure and used what he knew how to use.

My coach suggested doing my first fight soon and I’ve been watching many amateur fights to see what’s it like. Everyone seems to be able to go all out punching each other in the head super fast and keep at it even if they get hit because the punches don’t do much damage due to the head gear. So what I can’t figure out is, if the gear is that protective, how effective is technique? It seems like the person with more cardio just wins by lasting longer. I’m more of an outboxer going in out, feinting and hitting hard where I see an opportunity but maybe that’s not effective for amateur rules? I’ve heard stories about how amateur boxers can sometimes beat pro boxers because of this.
