So much easier to see the small details in your demonstrations when you wear shorts. Great video!

Something that was told to me was to think of the knee like a spear. That brought instant results. Thanks for the video.

I was taught arm swing but ignored the request after a few sessions in favor of hands on/in front of the padholder like your hands held up. I like the hook cover idea that makes sense too - thank you so much!

Amazing video, can you post a video about different ways of throwing the low kick ?

Thank you sir, 100 fact about the check hook. The reason the thais can get away with it and not be as suseptable, is guard change on entry, as well as the angle of lean back. Most important it's the number of hrs spent clinching and fighting. How many hrs a day do the average person throw knees compared to hands. Petchrungruang Gym is a excellent example of Muay khao gym private there is 95% knee attacks.

There's an interesting video that the "Karate Nerd" aka Jesse Enkamp did with Steven Seagal, where they went over the mechanics of the front kick. I think it's the same one that Anderson Silva claims that Seagal taught him in the locker room right before his fight with Vitor Belfort. I think it would be interesting to get your opinion on this kick (legitimate or not), and also it would be really cool to see you collaborate with Jesse one day. Theres a good chance that both Silva and Jesse are just too nice to be critical of Steven Seagal, so im not sure what to think.

I think I hurt my knee on a heavy bag is that possible ? what if you hit a skull with your knee ? It just doesn't seem like a joint can take that much force

You can definitely hurt your knee if you're not used to impact there. But like everything else your body starts to adapt to the impact

Is it possible to follow through fighting "switch stance" temporarily if you overthrow your knee strike?
@trevorhardy3544

My sensei says not to go onto your toes with your standing foot unless you absolutely need the height. He said it makes you reabsorb the shock for your strikes, making them less powerful. He said a planted heel will make sure more of the sock, thus damage, transfers to your opponent. Not sure how true it is.
@baddz2148
@baddz2148 10 ай бұрын
You should absolutely go on your toes. The reason why is because you are able to fully transfer your body weight in a forward motion. Thats not to say that kneeing flat footed cant cause damage but it wont be as powerful or energy efficient. if you watch high level kickboxing/muay thai padwork, they always go on their toes

He is coming from a different perspective. Most martial artists agree to explode to hit through your opponents. It is definitely still viable but as a short person 5’6” , i always go to my toes. I can definitely see how as a much taller and larger person would want to avoid any reverberations on their body. Definitely depends on what you are more comfortable with imo. Were not pro fighters looking for the necessary maximum velocity and snap (transfer of energy) to KO another pro who any layman would probably never KO.

Why practice knees when you could just buy a gun? This is an inefficient use of time.

Just went to a light kickboxing tournament (no knees allowed, I scored 1-1) and the last two years of your vids have got me so much better at getting off centre line and footwork so just wanted to thank you. My last kick was a side teep from south paw heh. Great video as always, can't wait to fight muay Thai next year and get my knees in next time!

«The people who tell to swing the arm probably haven’t been in a fight” Well, Damien Trainor, Panpayak, Buakaw and the knee legends Dieselnoi and Lamnammoon all have videos on KZbin telling you to do just that. So I guess there are many ways to throw a knee
@whoknows8223

Knee is used like a spear, we use hips tu prnetrate with knee foeard, foot should be tucked in to protect your toes, hend in guard position to protect your head, standing leg foot rotated out to get extra power and stability ... OSU

I was taught to "turn the wheel" when throwing knees. Basically our hands our still up, just turned more towards the side of the knee being thrown as if we were turning a large steering wheel of a bus.

I really liked your breakdown of the sparring rounds between Nong O and Takeru but there is a round I’d love to get your take on even more, and I think an even better example of Japanese/Karate style vs Thai and that’s Akimoto sparring with Nong O.

Most Muay Thai fighters don't really watch how they perform their knee strikes as long as it hits strong.

Depends on the way you fight, I guess, tucking the knee will increase the reach but thrown another way, the opponent will face difficulty as to what to expect(walking-knee, block, or whatever)

Whatever way you do the knee you need good lower back and hip mobility. So working on that is probably even more important than working on your technique.

I just happen to be trying to teach myself to knee properly. I have never studied muy thai except on video but in krav maga I was taught to turn the hip but said nothing about pointing the foot or keeping the knee sharply bent like you and virtually every thai boxing video I have seen says do. Can you recommend further online resources on the subject? Unfortunately I don't live close to a muy thai school. Anyway I definitely learned something from your video.

So true. A lot of them pivot on the front foot as if they are kicking and they tend to thrust their hips forward more. More power but less extension.
