Charlie's voice actor is the guy who ended up being Ned's voice in the later games. Since I grew up in the area where these games were made, I used to hear his voice in radio commercials sometimes and it always freaked me out, haha. The mysterious story book in the attic is part reference, part foreshadowing for the way this game ends. Carolyn is the pseudonym the author of the Nancy Drew books used, so a detectivey hero with auburn hair named Carolyn is a cheeky nod to the books. This is the only game where you can actually talk to Hannah, Nancy's housekeeper and mother figure (ish). She's a sweetheart! And using an older phone like this game has makes it easier to see when phone numbers spell things. Bess is 555-HINT and either George or the Hardy Boys have CLUE as their last four digits. There are tons of little details like that in these games!

7:30 eeexcept... a good part of San Fran was created with debris dumps after the 1906 earthquake. Other parts are built on top of grounded ships that got stuck in tidal marshes because the city is right on the water. There ARE tunnels in a few areas that were made in order to "shanghai" people, literally kidnapping them, taking them to ships, and sailing away, making them work on the ships (usually for free). The tunnels were later used as speakeasies during prohibition, but only a couple are left now. There might be some tunnels in other areas, but not as many as Sacramento or Seattle! Edinburgh also has layers, tunnels and levels.

If youre wondering why they keep mentioning the Great Earthquake, San Fran was basically built on a giant landfill and around the turn of the century most lighting was gas powered instead of electricity. So when the great earthquake happened the gas lines ruptured and there were massive explosions and fires and it burned like half of the city down.

Luckily, my friend started to get into Nancy Drew as well, so I eventually did get to play it through, but while it was the first I owned, it was one of the last games I played. It took me probably the greater majority of a decade to actually get to play it (something like six or seven years). San Francisco sits directly over a fault line, so during the Great Earthquake/ Fire 🔥 The city got shaken to bits and ignited the natural gas in the fault and burned what survived to ash. Cool pictures of fire geysers that burned for days. Not a great time for the citizen, but cool. A lot of documents were lost along with the city center, so San Fran separates it’s history before and after this fire. Thus the phoenix symbols everywhere to celebrate rebirth from the ashes.

My first ND game was the Final Scene. I got stuck real bad almost near the end of the game. That time i had no clue about walkthroughs or the fact that people post hints on the official website, and internet for an 11 year old kid was really restricted in my house back then. So I left the game unfinished for like 8 months or more and was soo curious to death-until one day my dad brought a printed out walkthrough from Gameboomers that he printed in his office since we had no printers at home yet. I was so dumbfounded that there are people who are so generous in making these walkthroughs and that I found it out 8 months late 😆

I’m so excited you decided to play them next, I think you’ll really enjoy them :) Also, I love that you plan to go through all the Nancy Drew games! Wolf of Icicle Creek is one of my faves. Anyway, thanks Gab! You da best!

ngl, the mansion's Chinese-inspired interior is very pretty and lavish. but it's definitely a pain for daily upkeep

I so enjoyed watching you play this! It seems you like scary games best, but I highly recommend "Tomb of the Lost Queen." Ancient Egypt is so cool. Also, "Secret of Shadow Ranch" is fantastic.

More Nancy Drew! I love that even though the graphics are so old you still play them for us. They do get better in time though. If you think this place is a maze wait until you get to Treasure in the Royal Tower. 🤣

I love the picture on the B&B newspaper. It's the same pic as shown at the start of the full house episodes
