25:34 for those wondering ;3 Okay, so there's a song I really like by Maki Yano, called "Mahou" (Magic) 魔法The kanji for "ma" is the same one used for devil, or "akuma" 悪魔. It's kind of complicated, so I taught myself it. Then a couple days later in my second year class, one of the TAs was trying to remember how to write "akuma" and I whipped that out to tremendous surprise, and I felt very special for the rest of the day. THE END. And today I learned the word and kanji for depression 😂

I recently heard that Mattel tried to change “the” Barbie VA for a more recent movie, and the fans started a petition with soooo many signatures to get Kelly (the VA) back. It sounded like she’s done all of the other Barbie movies since the beginning with The Nutcracker. They did hire Kelly back. I remember bc I made a joke that Mattel tried to get rid of “another Kelly.” (The Kelly doll/character got renamed to Chelsea. Japan already has a trademarked doll named Kelly, and Mattel wanted a global name for her.)

The figure that we saw might be a Kage-onna (Shadow women) which appear in abandoned buildings, run-down homes, and haunted houses in Japanese mythology. Kage onna make no sound, nor do they interact with the house or its inhabitants, other than projecting an eerie atmosphere. Although they are not known to cause any harm to the residents of the house, the image of a person where there should be none is enough to startle the bravest person. If the door or window is opened to see who or what created the shadow, there is nothing to be seen. However, tradition says that a house where a kage onna is seen is likely haunted, or will soon be haunted, by other yokai as well. This is all I know so far

Here’s another book of them!” 3:05 it’s really subtle but amazing voice acting, you can hear how her voice kind of cracks during this sentence. You can tell she’s upset. 34:52 snorkeling is from creature of kapu cave (the latest ND video I’ve watched), Kyler Mallory is from castle Malloy (forgot the real title, Sean was fun in that one), farmhouse front is from trail of the twister (another one with Sean!), Dave is from (I think) shadow ranch and that’s all the ones I know of. 53:01 a renogram is what you struggle with in trail of the twister, trying to fix the camera.

I've played this game a bunch of times but I'm still having a lot of fun watching you play, especially with all the cool knowledge you're sharing! In the beta version of this, they called the renogram puzzle "hidato" instead. Rentaro's mouth doesn't quite match up with what he says there. And I don't think the developers visited Japan to make this. The company who made these games was a small group of people in Seattle, Washington. The games were never super profitable so they were mostly kept afloat because of investors. They used to publish two of these games every year! It was honestly quite impressive. They were a cool little team. :)

It's insane to come back to this game now that I have been learning Japanese. I just look at words now and I'm like "Oh, that's cool, there's x" and Nancy is like "I need a dictionary to read that." XD I remember playing this game when I could only speak in fragments of Japanese and written Japanese was completely alien to me. Now it's like looking through the matrix.

This is probably the scariest Nancy Drew game I’ve played.

This one and Ghost of Thorton Hall are some of the spookiest honestly. Ghost Dogs scarred me for life tho when I was younger! Ahaha

It was the ending that got me when I was younger haha. Gave me nightmares for weeks! Haven’t played Ghost of Thorton Hall, but the setting for that one is definitely spookier.

1:54:39 That superstition about the number 4 is the same in South Korea. On the 4th floor, instead of '4TH', there is sometimes an 'F' (for Fourth) instead. Because the word for 4 in Sino-Korean '사' (pronounced 'sah') sounds too much like the Korean word for 'death'. The floor number 4 and room number 4 are skipped in hospitals, funeral homes, some public buildings, etc. It's something I learned when I first started learning Korean. 흥미로워요.

1:57:55 there are benevolent ghost like this one who shows up in the back seat of people's car when they get close. She tells them to slow down so they don't careen off the curve like she did. Another would be a ghost who comforts lost children and helps them find their way home.

I love this game!!! When I was younger I got it for my birthday. I loved the easter eggs you can find. Saddest day ever was when I went to replay and I lost disk 2......

It makes me so happy to watch you play Nancy Drew games. Growing up, I used to play Nancy Drew games with my sisters during the summer, so watching you play is bringing back a lot of happy memories. It’s also so fun to see you struggle in the exact same places i did, like with the calligraphy and the bento boxes. If you’re looking for more Nancy Drew games to play, I’d recommend White Wolf of Icicle Creek, the Curse of Blackmoor Manor, the Captive Curse, or the Haunting of Castle Malloy!

The people in the pictures with Yumi are Bess and George! The blonde one is Bess and the short haired one is George. They're cousins, and have been Nancy's friends forever!
