I really love the bird and wind elements of the game. On the day of the funeral, Jin is told that his parents guide him - his mother are the birds in the sky and his father is the wind. And in the game, we see the birds take him to places of rest, healing, and strengthening, and the wind take him to the next place he needs to go to save his people.

i haven’t finished watching the video but i see you’re confused about the yellow bird so i’ll leave this hear before i forget: “With respect to the golden bird that players can find at the Komatsu Forge before it is populated with Mongols, it is attempting to take them to a Ghost of Tsushima vanity item called the Forgemaster's Headband. To obtain this headband, players must get onto the roof of the building with the water wheel and then jump down through the hole at the very top. The goal here is to land on the highest rafter in this building, as indeed the Komatsu Forge vanity item sits upon it.”

The fact that you have an appreciation for Japanese language and culture makes this playthrough just that much more awesome. Thank you! edit: Also a small combat tip for spears, when they do the unblockable swing attack you can actually jump the spear and attack in mid-air for a powerful strike. :)

I watched parts of the begining from few streamers and I couldn't really enjoy the story and the world. I have to say you play in a sensible, nicely paced and zen way which goes so well with the theme of the game. Not just that but also you having some understanding of the culture and talking about it here and there makes this so interesting. A true samurai of the gamer era. Also: I know this is from a stream. THANK YOU for not letting screen be cluttered by donations, cheers etc. You just have the right amount of user interaction that doesn't distract from the experience. I know this is a difficult thing to do and I think you're handling that as perfect as one can. A true samurai of the streamer era. :P

Samurai used capes on horseback as a defense against arrows. The flapping cape would billow out overhead when riding and alter the trajectory of projectiles

1:02:39 The enemy is using the Iaijutsu, the quickdraw technique. It makes the act of drawing his (curved) sword into an attack. From what I gather it is more a dueling or selfdefense technique as a soldier would already have his weapon drawn when he thinks is about to enter combat.

FYI those samurai that no longer serving a master, just like in this game where his master was captured by the Mongols and Jin is now a wandering samurai. He is usually referred to as Ronin.

Jin can't be a ronin, as someone else has stated, he is the lord of the Sakai clan. Ronin are specifically samurai with no lord or master, which can be through capture, death, or being disowned and then become glorified mercenaries because they still somewhat follow the bushido code compared to the shinobi who do not and resort to cloak and dagger tactics

I realize that making a comment here/now is pointless...but. The fact that you have been able to advance in the game and take on 100's of warriors without bothering to wear any armor is a serious flaw in the game. I don't know why you haven't wanted to go suit up with some kickass armor anyway, but there is no way you should be advancing so easily with nothing. It's taking away from an otherwise AMAZING game. This is a 11/10 game but the lack of need to upgrade anything (but come on, some armor???) takes it down a notch or two. Also love your cultural affinity. It adds a ton to this series.

My biggest mistake was playing a lot of Assassin's Creed Odyssey before Ghost of Tsushima. I instinctively pressed Triangle to mount the horse 😭😭😭 And I did the same mistake back in assassin's creed with R2 😂

Also you can take falls indefinitely without dying if you're on your horse. You can use that to get to places super fast. I know it is not your style, it is just a tidbit i thought I'd add. Sidenote kage is now the only Japanese word I know.

from what I understand you can switch between Armour easily given the situation. travel for exploration and other Armour better suited to battle I guess it's a case of remembering to switch :)

Loving this playthrough. Its been a while since I watched your updated vids of Sekiro, I can't help noticing the difference between them. On the combat side sekiro is not very forgiving when it comes down to your parry and counterattack, your timing has to be on the money. But on the flip side your ability to heal is easier to use. In this game the combat is more measured, allowing you to watch your opponents moves and adjusting your strategy with more fluidity.Also your healing ability is limited, so you have to be more careful in combat situations, knowing when to back off, what stances to flip between against different opponents. Sekiro relys on you to remember your enemies attack pattern, and executing your counters perfectly or your f***Ed. The combat to me seems more realistic in this game, but that stands to reason as sekiro is set in a more mystical period of Japan, as you go up against spirits and demons, so you as the protagonist have to have superhuman reflexes. I'm glad you stayed with having the audio in Japanese, and subtitles in English. It would be nice if you could play some of it in the Kurosawa mode, I love his films concerning the samurai and it would be sweet if this could be done. Love ya Gabs, love ya vids. 👍
