I love how his father’s spirit is protecting him in the form of his sword while also guiding him and pushing him forward in the form of the wind while his mother’s spirit is the birds helping him find his way as well as aiding him in finding things that he needs. It’s a very subtle and clever way to include the game mechanics within the mythology of the game. That’s storytelling done right.

I really liked how they portrayed the Khan. It wasn't surprising to me that he would have spoken to those he was conquering in their own language. The Khans, starting with Genghis, highly valued education and language and communication. It facilitated trade and quick absorption of regions into his Empire. (This Khan is fictional, but is clearly meant to represent Kublai, Genghis' famous grandson.) This is sometimes not recognized or realized by people, because of their often brutal military tactics or decisions, the whole picture sometimes gets lost in the retelling. Like with many human events in history, they can sometimes be oversimplified and stereotyped. Personally, this is why I love this game. Because they are shown to be a formidable foe, and Khan is a great villain, made even more interesting because they made him complex and more realistic. He is terrifying and you can really want vengeance against him, but he also extends this respect and yet condescension toward those he is conquering. For instance, not immediately executing everyone, allowing them to be taken prisoner; Respecting local beliefs of honor, while also having a pragmatic opinion that it is not practical and being practical and a realist is better than being a romantic idealist. Almost likable but with disturbing condescension that makes you feel so infuriated and insulted, RP wise. Very interesting writing. The best villains aren't the cartoonishly evil, but those with some elements that can almost be respected. Anyway, in the real world, Genghis' descendants continued this general idea regarding their attitudes toward the peoples they conquered, though to varying degrees. But it was definitely still a thing long after Genghis was gone. So, yeah, they were brutal, and the attitudes of fear and hatred of them as conquerors are valid. But they were also practical and intelligent. They encouraged themselves and their various soldiers and leaders under them to learn about the various cultures of those they were conquering. They encouraged respecting the languages and cultures, to a degree, because it would make conquering easier. Less push back. They were fine with being a mutlicultural empire, as long as their power was respected. They kept their eyes on the prize. They weren't ideological or supremacist about their culture. They wanted what they felt was their right (ruling power and wealth) and they wanted that to be respected, but they understood that forcing everyone to become culturally the same as them would endanger that goal, and would make keeping their power much more difficult. Ancient Rome they were not LOL That said, not making any ethical, or moral personal opinion statements here. I'm not from any of the countries or cultures involved and therefore my personal opinion on it, in my view, shouldn't matter. It exists, but it's not the point. I think seeing them as terrifying and brutal is valid, but so is recognizing they were intelligent and practical as well. And anyone can have varying moral viewpoints and opinions on what happened and how they ruled. Those aren't mutually exclusive. Just pointing out what is documented in history (by Ancient various Asian sources, historians) and what modern historians from these regions have said recently as well.

The devs that made this are located in Bellevue, Washington state. Sucker Punch previously did Sly Cooper and Infamous. The lack of Japanese lip syncing has probably less to do with archaic focus testing or preference, and everything to do with time and budget sadly. A casual google search shows some of the insane levels of depth, time effort and care they took to “get it right”. While there’s massive broad fictional liberties here, the fact they took the effort to go to the island in real-life, stand and study the beaches where the mongols actually landed to get the geography references is pretty wild. I’m so glad this came out as well as it did. Very proud of these guys.

Wow, that's so cool to learn Sucker Punch is located in Western Washington! Guess it makes sense, since my brother told me that one of the Infamous games was set in Seattle (and I live in Seattle so I am aware that Seattle and Bellevue aren't right next to each other :P ). Devs doing their research for a location is the best thing, which is why seeing how detailed Seattle was in The Last of Us Part II made me very happy.

I've been saying, people criticising the lip syncing or localization seem to forget the game was written by English speaking Americans based in Washington state, the Japanese dialogue is the "dub" and the lip sync is for the native language of the writers/developers

@@Kylo_Ren_2033 just an fyi, i just restarted the directors cut on ps5 last night and the Japanese lip sync isn't that good. I'm pretty sure it's non-existant in the opening cut scene (looked 100% like the english), its better/more noticeable once you're in the game but even then Jins mouth barely moves. Hopefully it'll be better and available at launch for the sequel.

Also, he's keeping the uncle as hostage because he's worth more alive than dead. Not in money, but in name and what he represents. If he pressures/convinces the local lord to proclaim him (Khan) as the new ruler, and gets him to declare his loyalty, there will be no more fighting. In theory. Because he has not publicly surrendered, the people feel obligated to continue fighting for their rightful lord (the uncle), or face dishonor. Khan knows that to have his rule really mean something, he cannot just strong arm his way into power. It means more to the people here than just who was the strongest. (I know this is old, but I'm a new subscriber 😋)

Ok! I've watched your first hour months ago and had to put it down till I play for myself. I'm almost at the point that we save the uncle and I'm finally ready to watch your playthrough (up till the point where I reached of course). Playing with the Japanese dub is such an experience! And it's one of the best games I've ever played! Can't believe I almost passed up on it, if it wasn't for you I probably wouldn't give it a go. Thanks Gab 😊

Finally finished watching the video, and I love what I see. That first death was so surprising; I was real confused on why you were just lying on the ground after you “died”. Then the mook came and slit your throat. Absolutely brutal. This and all the other immersive touches like the poetry and shrine praying really won me over, not even mentioning the combat. The standoff mechanic is real cool; really sets the mood. My expectations with Tomoe really got subverted, wew. Seems like we’re gonna be set up for an Anakin-Obiwan face-off. Looking forward to the climax of that story.

When you mentioned a Japanese style Assassin's Creed I was internally screaming because I want one so bad. Or just an Asian based Assassin's Creed in general. We're getting Vikings this time but maybe, just maybe, if we yell loud enough they'll listen and make the next one a Japanese or Asian one.

@Stellvia Hoenheim In my opinion, all developers have their flaws and things they could do a lot better but, if they'd all stop making games, there wouldn't be any new games to play coming out anymore which, needless to say, would be a shame. However, something I wish would change is the whole money milking with endless amounts of DLCs or lootboxes but both, publisher and customer, are to blame for this because if people wouldn't buy the stuff, publishers wouldn't have a reason to continue doing it.

I love the discovery of the different things when swiping the touchpad. Something as simple as bowing or sheathing your sword can add so much to how immersive the game can be. As an example when you bow at the dead Japanese that you come across Jin will often say something like "Alone, but never forgotten." It's incredibly sweet and really helps flesh out how respectful and humble he is.

The interpretation of the Khan army and mongrel forces is almost completely accurate. What Khoten Khan said to Jin's uncle is true. They would study culture, take the best minds, warriors, artists, and more from each culture and improve their own. Making them unreasonably adaptable in nearly all environments. While many may think of them as barbarians, they were incredibly well trained and intelligent in a variety of nations cultures. They did not fight with honor though like the Samurai wanted, which made them hard to stop. But they were eventually held in Japan by great Tsunamis and storms hitting the coast, wrecking their ships and destroying their advantage.
