Wow, I really really enjoyed this reaction, although I rather would call this an analytic philosophy reflection ;-P Without understanding the lyrics, you got 100% of what Angie (the pink haired vocalist) tried to express in this song. Kudos! I have to agree with so many things you said, especially noteworthy your insight into their songwriting/arrangement working. I think you are spot on. to partially quote you: "... you are just not used to it" - Yep Btw, Angie made the outfit herself (the one in the second part of the vid). She is quite a character. Try their latest song ( I Wish I ) and you'll see the same band do something totally different. Cheers :)

The japanese scene always have had incredible bands and musicians, for the last 10 years or so the western world has been discovering their greatness...and that's a good thing, I wish it started earlier though. :) Gacharic Spin is imho the greatest rock band around (been around since 2009). Gacharic Spin do what they want and I promise you, the japanese have so much more style than any westerner!

Dude, I'm impressed. This is not the first of your reviews for me to hear, but maybe the best. You took a band and a performance I was already developing a liking for, and gave some very astute observations that helped me appreciate them more. In the past, my impression of them was like, crazy frenetic dance party somewhat disguised as a band. But I respected their abilities even then. As I've listened, I hear more to like. And this is one of their best so far. They are constantly growing and evolving. I too love bass. And I appreciate the dynamic use of balance to give it prominence and bring the guitar up a bit later. Bassist F Chopper Koga is effing GOOD. She is one of the three original founders from 2009, with drummer-vocalist Hana - and shortly after, guitarist Tomo-Zo. I recently read that she is considered the leader, and it was her idea to start the band. But they obviously work as a team in any case. Hana was and is her best friend and is clearly a real performer. When their early vocalist Armmy left, she took over vocal leader. She has been doing other things, and they have another drummer. But she is on maternity leave right now so Hana is back at the kit. BTW, I found out recently that Tamu Murata (Nemophila et al) had drummed for them on tour three years ago. Keyboardist Oreo came along in 2012 and can play anything, and I'm glad she had this tune to really let loose on here. I remember being awed by Rick Wakeman of Yes playing multiple keyboards at the same time. GS is obviously very different than Yes, but she is not behind anyone, IMHO, technically and in her ability to create song-specific art with it. Angelina 1/3 is the newest lead vocalist and at least contributes lyrics. In interview, the others said that of the auditions, she was chosen because she was the most confident. Angie's reaction was "What? That's it?" Hana: "Well yeah, the other stuff too..." and everybody cracked up. Yeah, I'm liking them.

Gacharic Spin has been around for a while (founded in 2009) with Hana, Koga and Tomo-zo at the core. Armmy was the original Lead vocalist and keyboard player until 2012 and passed away in 2015 (original music video for Juicy Beats is one of my favorites with her) and was replaced with Oreo on Keyboards and she and Hana split the vocals. They later added performers since Armmy was up front most of the time and there was a gap there when she left because of her health.

Tomo wasn't a founding member. She was brought on board about the same time as Oreo. Tomo and Oreo were in the same band together before joining.

Drums (Hana) Bass (F Chopper Koga) Keyboard (Oreo) Guitar ( Tomo-zo) Singer (Angelina / Angie) Yuri on drums. I have read that she is on maternity leave. Lately they have had Yuri as drums with Hana coming up front on guitar and vocals. You want to hear a unique song by them? The live version of "Tamashii" ... Unique because both Hana and Yuri are on drums at same time, in perfect sync.

Funk... My mind goes to something I discovered just the other day: FERN PLANET with サテライト・サーチライト (Satellite Searchlight, I think). From what I've seen their other songs are quite different, but that one is a funky tune. On topic though, Gacharic Spin always is a blast and Angie 1/3 fits in perfectly, Koga's bass is just always doing it for me, and that Hana plays the drums, the guitar, sings, screams and even plays household items (i kid you not, though i have misplaced the link) and basically whatever she wants is just ridiculous. Musically they're all so darn good.

Genre? No. The Japanese bands don't care about our genre definitions. That's one reason you are enjoying them so much--lots of surprises. No straight lines. Oh, re. the drummer singing, you may be mixing up their two drummers. Hana is the original drummer but is also one of their two lead vocalists.

Actually they have 3 singers since they added Angie. And that's not counting Tomo who has a few lead singing parts as well.

I lovenewpeopledicovering gacharic spin. One thing you should know is that their name is based on the word ‘gachapon.’ It’s the sound of a gumball machine. You put your quarter in, crank the handle and your gumball drops into the bin. Gacha is the cranking noise and the pon is the gumball dropping. This gacha is an irritating noise.they took the gacha part and americanised it by adds an ‘ic’ or because of the ending vowel ‘ric’ and then the english word spin. Soo...they are a group that is taking their individual noises and spinning them into beautiful music. They are Gotcha.rick spin. The only variation on this their use of gotcha.reeka spin especially for local Japanese audiences. Most Japanese words end with a vowel sound and anything else makes them uncomfortable. As for styles, oreo(keyboards) wore a hamburger suit for a year and a half, tomo-zo(guitar player) wore a pink princess dress for several years straight and early on Hana(drummer) would come out in a red men’s wrestling suit with a kamakazi head band or occasional a giant green snail shower cap which promoted Japanese feminism. My favorite GS uniform was created when Hana started wearing a basketball uniform with a somewhat cryptic number on the back. Someone decide to take the basic form, adapt the outfit to each members style and make them in the girls now official color. They decided to wear them as a throw back when they came to San Francisco and played. Amazing show...

Thank you for the explanation of the name. I love learning these details. For me the most memorable bit of gear was Hana wearing a miner's hardhat with the headlight replaced by a cowbell so she could flip a drumstick up and hit it.

I believe you confused your reaction to Doll$Boxx with Gacharic Spin. The lead singer for Doll$Boxx is Fuki of Unlucky Morpheus and the singer for Gacharic Spin is Angelina. You did mention in your Doll$Boxx reaction that you wanted more guitar in the mix. You got the side project right where Fuki collabed with the musicians of Gacharic Spin to form Doll$Boxx. Technical you were correct when you said you reacted to this band live but it was just the musicians with a different singer. At least you didn't get the name of the ship wrong. Keep up the good work and I'm going to try to make it to one of your Hurricane Relief Streams 🤘🙂🤘

We miss you. Have not seen you do a lot of Japanese music lately :( . Let's talk about this song. Probably my favorite song by this band. Just like EVOLVE made me look deeper into THE WARNING, this song made me binge watch a few of this bands videos. Angie reminds me of that crazy girlfriend who stalks you after you tell her you wanna break up. The song is chaos ... in the best possible way. You have missed quite a bit of BAND MAID material ;) .

Very interesting and detailed review. There are a few Japanese bands who travel successfully across musical genres, not through their albums, but inside their songs. I could name Nemophila and of course Gacharic Spin in the first place (and probably some others). Wagamama Rakia with the title "Survive" also succeeded in this. A lot of Japanese musicians are masters in their instrument playing, and most importantly in song writing. But they also develop a deep international music culture and knowledge. So when you pack all these knowledges into one person, and you gather 5 musicians like that into the same band, you get Band-Maid, Nemophila or Gacharic Spin. I consider I am very fortunate to live on the same planet and on the period of time than these amazing ladies. But unfortunately, not in the same country. Regarding Gacharic Spin, you should try the music video "I wish I", which is for me at the same level of performance.

In this area of sound, especially jangly guitar, try Polkadot Stingray and Lie and a Chameleon. Both Japanese acts, not all women, but female lead singers. Interesting poppy compositions and arrangements and pristine recordings. I think you'd like them.

You said the band you have reacted before is doll$boxx, which is a side project of gacharic spin and fuki (unlucky morpheus). And I guess you still don’t recognize that the lead singer in doll$boxx is fuki, because you regard the lead singer of gacharic spin as the lead singer of doll$boxx😂

You can’t pigeon hole these groups. They have sound musical knowledge. The keyboard player very Chic Corea influenced and has the chops to back it up. Those ten note chords she hammers away. Those two bar trade offs are great. Without knowing Japanese I can tell this is song about sick of fitting in and finally says ‘f’ it and becomes her own person. All these musicians are great. The drummer can sing and keeps time like a metronome. Did nobody hear Kinks You Really Got Me rhythm base?

The only genre you could put this in is Funk Rock. Unfortunately it won't filter Japanese Funk Rock but it's a start. Speaking of Funk Rock, if you enjoy it, listen to Bradio. They're really good.

@@Socrates_1775 yeah I think your right. To bad he got them mixed up. At the time of doing the first Doll$Box album it was a big departure from Gacharic Spin songs they had at the time. Plus Fuki doesn't sound like anyone else.
