We all go down paths that are not the best for us, this is my story about how gachas sucked me into a vortex that took me down a dark path for a period of my life.
Sometimes people wonder why I have such strong feelings towards the ways that gachas operate and well, this is why. I was one of many people who fell for the addiction, and I'm sure I'm not the last.
These games can be great when consumed in moderation, but they are built upon a foundation that preys upon biological human nature. Be careful everyone, reap the positives, and avoid the negatives!
Feel free to comment below sharing your own thoughts and experiences on gachas in general.
I've already started polishing off the Eliwood CYL 3 Prediction video at the time of this post, so you can expect that to come out relatively soon!
Let me know if you want more talking videos like this, about Fire Emblem in general, maybe not necessarily this personal or deep.
Music is Road Taken from Fates!

Now the biggest takeaway that I hope people can get from this video is, gaming isn't bad! It's just if you let your addictive habits get the best of you, you aren't letting yourself grow as a person. In links case it was Gacha games. In my case it was a plethora of different games that I played online. So be smart y'all and great video link.

Yeah, be careful of mobile or PC online games with premium items and VIP, especially those with "reasonable" price, as you will buy them thinking that its cheap, then you realized its piling into a huge money spent over time. I have fallen to that, thrice. Good thing that several gacha have absurd price (like FEH) that i can safely F2P because i won't be able to afford them anyway

Yeah, once in a while is ok. Doing so every day, like a routine, can make it addictive and lead people to compulsive gaming. It can be destructive.

these games are designed to be addictive. "don't be addicted." well, by design, these are supposed to hook you without you even realizing. They abuse your passion to make a fool of you. this video from Jim Sterling is something everyone in the gaming community should watch: kzbin.info/www/bejne/bYSQdXqKd7-IZ5Y not saying you should never play anything you enjoy but the video delivers a solid message. keep it the back of your mind and keep yourself in check before it takes control. subscribed.

when you said “reward myself with summoning for doing something good in real life”. That hit me hard.. I was addicted to Feh when it first launched, always giving an excuse to summon. “today was a bad day” “I did my chores” I got a good grade on that one test” only problem was, that I were spending money on the game. And it wasn’t until I checked my bank account and noticed that I wouldn’t have enough for my rent at the end of the month that I realized how deep in I truly was. Today I am F2P, and I recently started a new save to try and 10+ Donnel :)

While looking for some advice and other people's experiences in this type of games i found this video and boy i felt REALLY related to a lot of things you said. As of today i'm an very active f2p player of certain "gacha" idle game (let's call it BH), so far i have been playing it for 3 years, managed to get my character to a very high level with good equipment and bonuses and such, also made some friends in it when i joined a guild, i haven't spent a single cent on it but looking back at all those years *i realized that i have pretty much been playing every single day since i started* (mainly because there is a feature in this BH game where you complete dungeons with the help of other powerful players that you need to add to your own "friend list" and they need to accept the friend request, and if you don't log into the game for a while they delete you from theirs and it's very unlikely that they will add you back, thus making you unable to clear hard dungeons) and while it's kind of fun to see your numbers (stadistics) going up, slaying powerful enemies, capturing monsters and such, *it just feels more like a chore rather than an escape from reality* , i would really like to quit BH, find another game that i can actually enjoy with friends *because none of my friends know it and would neither be interested in playing BH* but dumping all those years in just a matter of seconds *feels like cutting off a part of my body* . I want to thank you for making this video, you really made me reconsider some things about my gaming lifestyle, and i'm really happy you managed to control yourself and move on, i hope i'll be able to do it too someday, thank you again. :)

Too real. On one hand, fortunately, I didn't fall into any Gachas before Feh. On the other hand, two years in and I can really feel that the game has a firm grasp on me now. Lately, I've been trying to control myself and letting myself play only for 1) Solos, 2) Orbs, 3) other valuables like DF and Grails. Whenever I find myself on the game, I ask myself if I'm currently playing for any of the above three reasons. If the answer is no, I immediately force close the app. Let's see how that goes, wish me luck! That was a relatable video especially in terms of social interactions. Hope I remain self conscious of it the next time I go out! P S : Yes, I'll properly start Kaiji within the next two weeks

I legitimately relate so much. There are so many gachas that I played(Puzzle and Dragons, FEH, Brave Exvius, etc) and I honestly became ruined by them. Thankfully, I drew myself away. I still play FEH and Puzzle and Dragons, but I don't consume them.

If I could I would like to speak with a Whale Player and ask him several questions like "What goes through their mind when whaling in the first day when a new banner comes out?, or is scoring really that important to you? And of course what do you do for a living to pay that much money for that one specific unit?"

I know this is a year old, but I just had an experience where I realized I had a problem. I wouldn’t say I’m a whale, as I don’t know where the bar is, but I just deleted DBZ Dokkan Battle because I found myself spending over $200 a month on it over the past year. Every unit is hyped as “the best” when it comes out, so I summon and buy stones until I get it. Sometimes I would go for multiple copies to have the best possible version of a unit. It’s a temporary high on getting the new unit and it’s always “the next one is going to hit” until it does. It’s a bad mentality and a slippery slope. It definitely didn’t help being stuck inside during the past year for the quarantine, but to say it’s due to that will only be an excuse. I’ve tried to go F2P a few times or telling myself I won’t summon on a new banner, but it’s hard to not chase that 30 second high. I also find myself saying “I’ll buy stones if I really want the card or if I need to have it” which is a problem. My only option was to delete the game which was hard considering how much I’ve spent already, but I can’t go back and change that and can only do better moving forward. To answer your second question, I’m a Software Development manager, so I get paid well but not well enough to blow my money on pixels. If anyone reads this and finds themselves in the same situation, please feel free to reach out. It’s a tough decision to make, but it’s something I’ve chosen for myself.

I've been playing heroes since launch and found myself giving up all other games as of this year. It's too much of a time sink. I actually stopped playing a game I've played for 4 years because it broke my f2p rule. As a worker with overnight security shifts I love heroes for keeping me awake and staying f2p friendly. Thanks for the reminder to stay f2p.

This really does remind me of the times when I had Record Keeper, FEH, FF Mobius and Duel links all at the same time, but then realized that these seriously take too much time and had a damper on my daily life, so I took out most of the gatchas that I used to play and only slim them to 2, FEH and Record keeper. That decision was a really great one for myself and I was glad I went through with it.

This video reminded me of my addiction to HI3. I spent hours playing and I’d ignore my friends when we went out. Getting meta valks and their equipment gave me a dopamine rush, and it kept me going. Unfortunately, I ended on a sour note. I always had trouble with stress, and it got to me one day. I told myself I needed to get better equipment and valks. So I started spending and pulling. I splurged $700 SGD on the game on random banners, not even ones I cared about. I kept pulling and saying to myself “one more x10”. It wasn’t until my bill was maxed that I woke to my senses. I felt horrible. I had bills to pay and essentials to buy, so I had to refund the $700 from Apple. I got banned for malicious refund. I learned my lesson the hard way. I was upset for a week or so, but I moved on after realizing how many hours I had wasted on the game. I quit gacha games for 3 months before moving onto Arknights. I’m not playing it as frequently as I did with HI3, but I’m having fun :)

yknow, i relate a lot to your experiences, as well as probably a lot others do. same year as you, back in 2016 i was incredibly depressed due to a toxic friendship and the only reason i kept going was because i wanted to keep playing gacha; namely, love live was my favorite back then. except.... it slowly started getting out of hand when i downloaded the japanese server. and started making tons of alternate accounts on both of that and the worldwide server solely to be able to grind out currencies and roll for my favorite character there are tons of other gacha games i also played for a while- food fantasy and bandori are the major ones. and as much as i loved them, dude, i spent 12 hours grinding food fantasy for a character i never even used just because i thought she was pretty. at one point i just... realized i didn't have enough energy to handle all of these games at a time, and my interest in them was already low enough to push me to save my account codes and delete the apps off my phones. believe it or not, i kept my old phone before upgrading solely to be able to play gachas. the only one i did keep around though was heroes because fe has been a solid special interest of mine since i played awakening, and the gameplay is a lot easier than having to focus for several minutes without losing my combos (cough, love live, cough). still though, even today i'm supposed to be studying for an upcoming exam and what am i doing instead? clearing out naga's abyssal map and summoning on her banner i think gachas as a whole are incredibly dangerous to even look at; im pretty sure we aren't the only ones whose lives have revolved around them so heavily. sure, if you want a fun distraction for a while and try your luck at gambling, by all means go ahead! but...it's incredibly dangerous to let yourself get too much into it

I can relate, though for me it was granblue I used it to love it so much when I started I wasn't really thinking about if my team is competitive or not I had a really good time. But as the years I just found myself doubting everything I was doing maybe I should get better, maybe I should invest more time, more money, learn more about the game get all the meta comps...which I did but I wasn't happy suddenly I hated this game with my entire being everything felt like huge waste of pretty much everything, I deeply regret going down that road, I finally pulled the plug when I whale sparked Grimnir(character) on his release I felt so empty despite waiting so long for him but I thought it would make me happy, you know light a new fire in me but I just felt worse than before in the end I deleted the account, I won't return to granblue probably ever but I still love the characters and enjoy looking at their art from time to time. Nowadays I only play feh regularly and another eden whenever the mood strikes me, I tried out some new games like Revue starlight the characters are cute but it just wasnt for me after all, I also learned I don't really enjoy mobile games frankly speaking xD the only reason why I downloaded heroes in the first place, it's because it's FE related I kinda forgot that somewhere down the line...

I recently quit playing Fire Emblem Heroes, and that took a looot of effort. I had a lot of fun pulling and +10ing my favorite unit, Kaden, and even making a team of just Kadens to take advantage of his weapon. But over the past few months I begun to see the game as work, it’s not really fun at all anymore doing the same thing just to get orbs when you’d goal is already finished. I found I couldn’t pull myself away though, because I was honestly addicted. I built a lot of my life around this identity of being the “Kaden” guy and put so much investment into the game. It took a lot to delete the game but honestly, it’s been two weeks now and it feels so nice not being compelled to play a game just to get orbs. If you find yourself not having fun, don’t hesitate to quit. Pulling on new units isn’t going to make the game more fun, it’s just going to distract you on how not fun the game is.

I have a real problem with Gachas so I normally don't play them, Feh of course being the exception, funnily enough though it actually has helped with my social skills somewhat, I started college somewhere new and so it was kinda a fresh start, this year I decided to get out more and ended up making friends who actually play the game, since the only type of interaction I got with the game previously being KZbin and Discord it was really good to talk about my favourite series with people who actually like it. Feh's still a gacha and there's always temptation to spend though I've only done it once and vowed not to do so again but the fact that the game can be beaten with free units and older units are always getting refines to make them stand out is always a plus to me.

Brave Frontier was my first gatcha game ever since my first year in college. I got way too addicted to it and I found out one of my good friend I met in college and one of my cousins also played the game too so I was really excited to how popular it was. But as I continue to play it I somehow tried to buy some gems for a specific unit that I really wanted, i cant remember who but I always wanted her so I decided to do so and then suddenly I just kept on spending more and more on it. I knew it got out of control and so around 2 years after I decided to quit the game. It never really took my time away from my studies or even from my friends, I just hate the fact of spending so much money like this and get out of control. I started Duel Links around last year when two of my other college told me to download it and duel me there instead of the actual card games cuz I would always beat them in the TCG version but I dont ever buy anything from there I would just wait for the free gems they give me and the rewards from completing alot of stuff. But like you said, somehow Fire Emblem Heroes is the exception because it is one of my most favorite games to play. I will always do my best to spend the free orbs for the banners I want to pull on but there will be times where I dont have much orbs and a really good banner comes in so I would only spend a few good amount of orbs to get at least something. I've learned to maintain exactly how much I should spend on these things but also to keep it away for a while cuz I would need to focus on using my money on many other things. I really enjoyed this video because games like these are super addicted but I learned how to maintain myself on when i want to play these games and actually spend time pay more attention to my studies and with my friends.

I used to be the same good dude. I was playing epic7, valkyrie anatolia, FEH, brown dust, mobile legends and aov. All of them.. I would notice that I barely had time to do other things after work and college-- because I just had to get that daily bonus from each game. Then two semester ago I actually failed a class because I was too busy playing games. To make it worse, I was looking for yet another game to add to my collection.. I came upon Dragolia Lost, because Nintendo was promoting it via FEH. I got addicted to it so quickly because of the limited FEH charters you could obtain only through an event that was going on. I spent almost three days playing that game. Each day i would play it 3 to 4 hours while still, at least, logging in to my other games. I felt like crap in a week, and my social life was going through a roof. That's when I deleted all my games out of frustration.. I had strong urges to get back to all those games (because it's hard to let go when you are not mature enough to understand that those games are not real, and they don't define you or actually belong to you), but in the end I only sticked to FEH and AOV. I never play them first thing in the morning like I used to. That habit is very bad, and I recommend people to not do so. It takes hours of your time and sets your day for disaster; and that time could be used to pick up a new skill, study for an exam, have breakfast with loved ones or to just meditate and reflect. I do play FEH and AOV now, but no more than 30 minutes, and mostly on the weekends. After you stop such bad habits long enough, you start realizing how addicting they can be and how destructive it can get. If you read all of this and relate to it, please stop playing those fake reality games now and do yourself a favor--live your life for today and let it shape your tomorrow.

Having Brave Frontier as my first gacha game thanks through a TV ad, stopped playing it after Omni evolutions made it as it wasn't fun as the first time. I thought I could find some people in my group that were interested, unfortunately I got none and decided to go to online communities ending up finding discord and reddit. went for FFBE since I liked Final Fantasy, I also stopped this one because I always become emotionally negative thanks to the 7* system. Now for FEH, it fully introduced me to the franchise and my favorite character Eliwood. Same goes with Dragalia which I also enjoy even if I'm not so active on the game. And Romancing Saga Re;Universe thanks to my love for the Saga franchise since I was in High School. Despite the bad experiences since my saltiness tends take things a bit far, I was able to learn on how to handle them properly and also to provide balance to it when I have to put down my device and go out.

I played many gacha games(don't really play the other ones), and FEH was one of the games I quitted even though I invested a lot of time and energy on two accounts because I realized that I never used the new characters I got. I'd level them, and they'd never be touched again, because I already had a set team to clear the content I wanted to clear. If you're just playing out of habit, and you don't like the grind, or it feels like a chore, just drop the game asap. I once held the ideal f2p life in a game(top guild, beating whales, had friends), but I dropped it just because it started feeling like I had to check back every 30 minutes. I'd say the best thing anybody can do for themselves is to focus their time and energy onto 1 or 2 gacha games max rather than dividing their attention to several. There's no point to flexing 10 different gacha game accounts when their progress is behind everybody else's.

@@LinkKing7Exactly! That was one of the things I had to accept with FEH. The sunk cost was the biggest hurdle for me when it came to quitting.

God, Brave Frontier. I randomly ended up playing it, and i found it cool. I stopped playing it when the various units had a maximum limit of 6 stars. Also, i hooked my cousins into it. While i stopped, my cousins became so addicted to it, they learned lots of things about it, while i restarted the game a couple of years later, when the Guilty Gear collab dropped. I got both Sol and Ky, and got the "starter" unit to what was... Omni rank? And then, i left the game again, while my cousins still play it, and they said the game have MORE OMNI RANKS. That's when i thought the game is really dead. What is that madness. Anyway, that's what i think of that game.

Fortunately FEH's the only one i play, and i do have a habit of going hard, but then again i have considered myself a student of the game (yeah i know it sounded less edgy in my head ok) since my days of tryharding in halo 4. so i do just enough to have gone decently hard and when i'm at home i leave the app open in case sudden inspiration hits, but once i'm out of the house it's gone

Yeah, I remember the Brave Frontier times quite fondly, but all good things must come to an end, and the game kind of went down a weird path with Omnis anyways
@GlizzyMan445
@GlizzyMan445 5 жыл бұрын
LinkKing7 I agree with that. Omnis were kinda weird, but oddly satisfying. Then came Frontier Rifts, the majority of them in terms of difficulty made Abyssal mode on FEH child’s play. Lmao it was awful.

Lol, it happens to all of us I'm sure. You can always find a more productive way to fill your free time if that's what you're after. Get a hobby, read a book, work out, there's tons of things to do. Having said that, playing gachas isn't "bad", but they can consume us in ways we aren't aware of.

The fuck kind of fairy tail life is that? Where was the hardship? Where was the life ruining part? Wtf dude, god forbid you ever break a nail.

People’s issues are relative to the environment they’re in. I never claimed I didn’t have a good life, but this had a negative impact on who I was at the point I was in in my own life. Whether or not this resonates with you is your own opinion, and that’s fine, but I’m sure, even if it’s much smaller compared to the larger struggles of people in this world, this can be an issue for many other people as well. No need to hate, we all have our own battles to fight and win. You know nothing about me except what personal details I choose to share on this platform. Hope you have a nice day.

This reminds me the time where i was playing pokemon shuffle for the 3ds i remember each month i bought gems to get coins to get power ups to clear the level i rember it was christmas 2016 i was saving money for a new phone a month before i bought it i rember i had around 300 but when i checked i had just 90 because i was spending 20 or 30 per month the bad thing was my reaction i said i will buy it next year but thank god my sd filled (it was just 2 gb ) so i tried to move my data to a bigger one but because i did not knew that this needs a specific program to do that when i failed i moved everything to my original sd card but when i opened my 3ds everything was deleted i could not find the game after i redownloaded everything i logged in the game to find all of my data gone i froze all of my money went to waste and dissappeared along with my account after this i decided i will never give money to a game that i can not save the data or needs to pay in order to achieve something like i deleted the game my self it was an empty shell of my former glory of greed and addiction right now in feh i do have such temptations but i rember what happened and i said no not again and i rember when legendary lucina was released i was not able to get her i wanted to give money to it but then i saw through videos that legendary heroes will reappear and i realised that because i did not get i will have a second chance the same happened with legendary azura as well for lucina ended on hrids banner got her in 60 orbs i was very happy with azura though i waited for her next reappear in yune's banner when after 100 orbs i got yune , a second L lucina and L azura that reminds that patience is key and that you will always have a second chance as for my playtime in heroes is pretty normal in time about 30 minites to an hour and two on the weekends yes each day i woke to get the rewards and all of that but in the end of the day is the only game i play for a limited time because i have prioritize my schedule first and then the game some times i am so busy i do not log in not even for the orbs but that happens rarely but feh removes me from the sad reality i play with it a bit i leave all of my anxiety behind i have fun in the game doing some random battles and stuff but not because of necessity but because i am bored it does not take me away from the world like others where the give their life for it when i want to i close the game and go out sometimes i wish i could some more time with but it is better that because i do not lose my day for it and when you go f2p and just prioritize what you want to expierince i do not go for everything i go just for the girls to be honest that means that i do not go for the guys in the banner and for the girls i go for one copy of each but i do not care if i get just one i just use what i get i do not care for arena or aether raids neither competitive as a whole so i just have battling for fun and is it in my opinion that if something is not fun do not play it ,go for the fun of it personally i do instead of just burning my brain on youtube watching meme videos i play a game that makes me use my brain and without it i would just get bored because there will always be that moment when there is nothing to do or somewhere to go and just want to relax and play a game this is why feh has helped me be less bored and sad and me happy in several occasions yes it has its ups and downs but i have fun not addicting fun , so enjoy it as a game not as bad habbit and self control is key in games like feh
