For Capitao, it can be argued that the ADS is hitting a projectile that is a eggshell in some way. X-Kairos are egg shape till they "splat" onto surfaces, becoming that flower shape, same with most grenade-like gadgets. But Ash's is more like a drill, and shaped differently, thus harder for an automated turret to possibly discern as a threat. Plus it makes sense that the ADS knows to shoot and hit a shell in flight (Jager's video says it's for anti-tank originally), and grenades are shaped similarly. Also, just rupturing a grenade or grenade-like gadget is usually enough to disable it. Capitao's bolts are smaller explosives strapped to bolts, so maybe the bolt shape is an issue, or the explosive is small enough to escape notice. Just a "theory", playing devil's advocate.

Basically blackbeard was nerfed into oblivion, his shield loses to a pea shooter now and it no longer really stand a chance against anything so he does not exactly counter anyone, not to mention that he moves like a fat boy when his shield is on 1 speed.. he only has smal uses on hatches and windows still.

15:50 it's probably because they didn't want to make another animation, or have people question why echo has a phone as well as the wristpad. It happened to line up with a minor balance decision so that echo isn't as easy to find while he's in yokai (which is most the time). If it didn't work like that, then the phone call would take him *out* of yokai which would be even worse. It's balance.

A couple interesting things with Dokkaebi: 1. Mute's jammers block her logic bomb while the defender is standing within the jammer radius. When the defender leaves the radius, the logic bomb will still hit. 2. IQ can see defenders while channeling with their phone out to turn off the logic bomb attack from Dokkaebi. Also, Sledge's hammer can break otherwise indestructible bullet-proof cameras.

I know you probably won't see this, but there are three more minor interactions to mention. Glaz's scope counters the visual part of smoke's grenades since he can see right through them, although there is still damage from it. The other two are sort of connected because they both counter the same gadget. Sledge and Buck both counter Mira's black mirror if it is on a non-reinforced wall. The only problem is that they sort of have to get close.

For someone who thinks about siege so technically, it's disappointing to see you not understand why Ubisoft is making some operators have unique perks. Operator perks have been around for a while, a good example is kapitaos arrow not getting hit by jager's ADS. The ads doesn't interact with the arrow because from a balancing perspective, an ADS is too easy of a hard counter to kapitao, there wpuld be almost no reason to pick him. Thatcher has many unique interactions (perks) with his emp. It doesn't friendly fire, and it doesn't deactivate phones or destroy gadgets that are in your inventory. Ela and zophia need to be resistant to concussion grenades because of the inconsistency of the nades. As both characters ill get hit by my own grenade from behind a wall at times. This makes camping near a grizmot more doable. Echo's phone doesn't get affected by dokkaebi because dokkaebi wpuld be overpowered on diffuser game mode. Where a team can just save both phonecalls until they need to plant, and buy enough time to get a plant down without taking out the drone or echo. In the past, Ubisoft never told us about unique operator interactions like this, people would find out the hard way or from the internet. These little lore perks are mostly here to help balance inter operator interactions and help inform the community of the interactions in an entertaining way.

on the capitao's bolts, you'll have to understand how real ads work on tanks. if the device/object coming in is too small it wont be picked up by the receiver. so if we follow that concept it really makes sense. btw thanks for this vid things make way more sense now.

+Evoid on the ubi website. There is apparently a tab for operators and it shows every single gadget. To save the image though I had to inspect the source code and find the image file, open it in a new tab, then save it. Not too bad but slightly annoying.

The inconsistency with Jäger may be that the ADS can’t really intercept or destroy an arrow fired from a crossbow, the bolts are fairly small since they aren’t normal arrows and are instead smoke equipped and gas equipped. Most things the ADS can shoot are round in nature and are spheres or balls, I think it’d be slightly different with shooting an arrow shaft. So I think there’s more surface area with grenades and such the ADS can fire at, or the ADS simply can’t recognise or track arrows.

Unfortunately it wouldn’t make sense or work, Glaz’s scope highlights and seeks heat hence it’s a thermal scope in its nature, Vigil’s jammer only disguises him from video footage and cameras, it wouldn’t exactly hide his body heat from a thermal scope. It’d be cool if there was an effect where you wouldn’t see a clear outline of his body and instead a faint blur of heat signifying it was him using his jammer. Which is also why Caviera can counter a lot of things with her silent step, though it’s questionable why her footsteps aren’t traceable in her Silent Step, because she realistically still needs to put each foot on the ground to walk.

One thing I noticed with jäger ADS is the fact that it likes to destroy breaching round that's been stuck in the window. So let's say you are the ash pushing from window, you want to use breaching charge and there is a chance that CREM will be destroyed by ADS. It may be just glitch.

Echo’s Yokai, Ela’s concussion mines and Lesion’s gu traps can all disable Finka’s ability while the attack team is juiced up and smoke also can negate her ability because they’ll die faster since they’re breathing faster while in the smoke

There is interaction with IQ and Dokkaebi. If you call the defender, their phone will appear in IQ's scanner. And if you can shoot through the floor/wall you can get a quick kill.

I'm pretty sure you considered this when making the video, Chris, but I think it's worth mentioning that Hibana, Fuze and Ying are effectively counters for the ADS, as they force multiple shots of the ADS to go off at once. This is essentially a 'disable' counter.

14:50 I think the reason why is the real-life comparison and how the gadget is thematically supposed to work. It detects objects flying within a short radius and fires and destroys them, particularly meant to counter things like grenades. Low-speed projectiles like any hand-thrown object or even as slow firing as the X-KAIROS shots could be physically hit with the counter-system. That being said, I'm pretty sure the reason it doesn't not or cannot target Capitao's bolts is just that they travel too fast or are too small for the device to hit it. I could be wrong, though. I don't know what the realistic speeds of bolts are or the X-KAIROS so I can't say this is why for sure. Most likely an oversight though, if this isn't the reason why.

+VarsityGaming You can argue that YING's candelas can counter JÄGER'S ADS's as you can use them as duds. 1 ADS can only destroy 2 grenades each,and you should 100% get them smoke grenades up in ranked. Therefore, let's say that on skyscraper in BBQ ROOM theres one ADS on sight in bomb, and only GLAZ YING AND BUCK are left on your team with 30 seconds on the clock, u shouldn't waste BUCK'S frags or GLAZ'S smokes, you would throw in your candelas, then your smokes and finally your frags, so that you are able to get the plant down. Therefore in that sense YING can counteract with JÄGER

This isn’t really about gadgets but it’s about IQs gadget... IQ can detect the defenders phone like when dokkaebi sets off her logic bomb or when the defenders check the cameras which reveal the locations of all defenders.

I think you *maybe* missed one important interaction. Jackal can reliably track anyone besides Cav, sure, but this track temporarily negates Vigil's gadget in an indirect way. Yes, he's still invisible on drones, but that ceases to matter during a Jackal track. It's not a complete negation, but one worth mentioning. Side note: I think you're getting too caught up in lore justifications versus what some of these exceptions mean for simply for gameplay. Echo being unaffected by Logic Bomb isn't some dumb easter egg, it's because Echo is the only defender that needs to be away from his body for large periods of time and Ubi clearly thinks the Logic Bomb would be too big of an interruption for him. Not that it matters, but I agree. And again with the Zofia withstand thing, I think you're thinking about it backwards. They didn't give her withstand BECAUSE she's canonically a badass, but it's an ability they wanted to give someone purely because it's neat. It's not realistic, sure, but neither are many things that exist in the game because they're awesome. As for the Capitao inconsistency with the ADS, I've always thought about it as if the bolts are so small that they aren't detected as explosives, but rather bullets, which obviously the ADS ignores. I don't think it'd break Cap in general to have an ADS counter him, but you're right that he's in such bad shape atm I'd be sad to see it happen.

With the echo-dokkaebi lack of interaction I just feel that it's better as a balance thing as well; negating echo with his drone usage by using dokkaebi would make echo a little weak in a logic bomb, rush situation where echo could be used to stun enemies trying to push and protect his team from the enemy while they reset.

Dokkaebi's Logic Bomb technically counters Valkyrie, since you cannot view your cams when the phone is ringing. I flanked an unsuspecting Valkyrie once thanks to this, she was relying on the camera to watch her surroundings.

If you are standing over one of Mute's jammer BEFORE Dokkaebi is calling you, your jammer will prevent the call. I've played many games as mute while standing over a jammer, my teammates get the call and I dont have to turn the device off and make myself vulnerable. Unfortunately it does not work to run to the jammer if Dokkaebi is successful in calling you, so its part luck that she happens to call you while you're near a jammer

16:30 The grenades are explosives. They have an AoE and there is a high chance Ela and Zofia will be in this proximity in CQC - therefore they need to resist the effect. Echo's drone is EXTREMELY specific - it only hits one operator and you have to hit them. There is no AoE. The only person who can force an Echo drone hit on Echo is Echo.
