for the sake of the general population, I hope they tow those vehicles to a more remote area. Maybe somewhere in Bulacan or Pampanga. Make the fines more hefty. Vehicles with tampered or improperly installed license plates needs to be impounded, not just ticketed.

When people have minor injuries, like riders that fell down, I'm usually the one cleaning their wounds. I lost count the number of times I did that on EDSA. But in this case, the guy wasn't hurt and he's simply trying to avoid getting ticketed for parking on the sidewalk. It might be interpreted in the wrong way if I help someone who's actively trying to avoid being ticketed. But I must admit the whole scene was a little bizarre. Seeing the lady stall the motor and jump it forward. Then seeing the guy dump it to the ground.

I used to live near there (8:07 onwards). thank god they've finally towed most of those broken cars/motorcycles. albeit, they've missed the inner street (the other end of the eskinita where the motorcycle crashed), it's a potluck full of items that makes that street impossible to pass through

I got served for a traffic violation in Manila City a year ago. They sent me a letter as part of non contact apprehension. My penalty was P2,500 if I remember correctly. I missed to pay it within 10 days and they charged me additional P800 as interest.

Wow that's a massive interest rate. Honestly I'm not a fan of the Manila City non-contact program. They're catching people on a bunch of technicalities that really don't cause any problem on the road. Meanwhile the colorum and unlicensed tricycles and jeepneys can do pretty much whatever they want on the road. And the illegal parking is just out of control.

That practice started in Manila City. With even some local authorities doing the same thing with their motorcycles. It started there because of the cities non-contact apprehension program. Now the mask practice has started spreading to other cities.

Too many vehicles but not enough space on the road which is the major cause of traffic. It depends if they have any intention of paying the violations. Imagine, you can get a license with 10 years validity. You won't be forced to pay for the violations until you renew your license. I've known many people who just applied for a new license, instead of renewing their old one 🤷‍♂️ It's not allowed, but it happens.

What happens with unclaimed towed cars and bikes after so many days? Do they get auctioned off or resold?

Most vehicles are claimed back within 24 hours. But some vehicles do get abandoned. Generally they just sit there and rot, until they're basically just rusty scrap metal. I think there was an auction at one time, but it's not really a standard practice. The vehicles really just rot into the ground.

Suggestion: if any transportation vehicles, motorbike etc. was impounded before they can reclaim their respective car, motorbike etc. They must show all LTO violations, penalties must paid before releasing the car. It will alleviate the PASAWAY ON THE ROAD.

Just by watching the amount of people who break street laws seem like its out of hand. The attitude needs changing. The way to make them learn starts at licensing. Remember that parking attendant from before? MTPB said he shouldn't be there and isn't meant to be selling parking there. So MMDA became the bad guys because they ticketed and towed, based on what the MTPB told them. Days later, people were commenting on the video, saying they had just paid the exact same parking attendant to park in the same place 🤷‍♂️ That's why I don't know who's telling the truth anymore.

That's the frequent problem.. they will say they left their license at home and it's just nearby. They think the enforcer will just let them ride away with a warning. When they realize it's going to be impounded and they need a license to get it back, they admit they don't have a license 🤦‍♂️

Normally I only blur the faces of people who were ticketed. But in this case I decided to blur his face to save him from some embarrassment. It was like some kind of comedy sketch seeing the lady stall the bike and then him crash the bike. At least no one got hurt. That's the main thing.

The impounding is pretty much the only thing that proved to be an effective deterrent But there's a flaw in the system. You only have to pay your most recent ticket and then they vehicle is released. Instead, they should force all tickets on that vehicle plate number and drivers license to be paid, before releasing the vehicle.

What I've noticed is that during operations, they're not passing through. Maybe because they know already. But you're right, on other streets and outside of operations, I see a lot of police in Manila that don't wear helmets or are using bicycle helmets. It doesn't seem so common in other cities.

I find it frustrating and as a tourist, feel they are trying to abuse the system. Is there a way that u can address this huge problem to the right authority?

I miss the days when atty lizada was with ltfrb. Because she wasn't scared to do sting operations against abusive taxi drivers. I guess we'll see what happens under the new LTFRB chairman. Hopefully they'll finally address this issue. It's very annoying when the drivers are demanding huge amounts instead of running the meter. And when they refuse to go anywhere they don't feel like. Picking and choosing - a practice that isn't allowed.

@@GadgetAddict i do have the app, but grab has been costing more than a taxi trip nowadays...i wonder why is grab more now when it was supposed to be friendlier for everyone costwise...there's really not much to do now as consumer. You either deal with taxi's who wanna flat rate you most of the time, which pretty much uses the same peak rates as Grab. Either case, there is hardly any advantage for either. Me being from the US, I'm used to tipping all the time. But these taxi drivers seem angry when I ask for the meter to be turned on. We need to put pressure on the drivers who think its ok to flat rate. Many of them make me car sick and have no aircon that blows cold air. And yes, they seem to think its ok to refuse a run because its not what they want. Frustrated about the whole Grab/Taxi situation.

I remember since the start of the clearing operations, the MMDA lawyers had prepared stacks and stacks of complaints against various barangays, to be filed with DILG. I'm not sure what action the DILG has taken though.
