I believe a future version of Gaea is interested in vector displacement which would allow overhangs, but actual Caves and tunnels would not be directly created in Gaea. However, what I've done in the past is to create the texture I would use to displace the tunnel walls in Gaea. It requires creative thought to make it look good, but technically possible. Just not what Gaea was designed for. Use of voxels with a tileable triplanar displacement would probably get you there, yes.

So... the landform node seems to be missing in the newer version of Gaea (1.2.0.3) - not sure how to proceed with this tutorial.

There are several other ways of making Sand dunes now. That includes an actual node devoted to them which did not exist at the time of recording the above. The above tutorial is from the "Early Access Preview" EAP of Gaea before it reached version 1. So many things were not yet done. Is there an aspect of dunes you wanted to see as a tutorial that the current dune node can not create for you?

@@devenjameslangston the node itself is pretty straight forward, does two kinds.. but if it misses something, let me know. I may have solutions

how did you make the sand texture !? Btw nice tuto :)

This was the early access version (sort of open beta) which had a few things that are no longer there. The sand texture in this case was a normal map and texture applied to the material. We had different base materials that came with Gaea and were for preview only. They didn't export with the height map. They were removed to prevent confusion and to make way for the real texturing tools. I do have other tutorials on this channel which discuss making other sand shapes though. :)

@cowsmanaut Thank you for the answer! :) Otherwise, do you know if there is a node or other that allows you to make tiles our site or even in the viewport to display a version of our site that tile and if so did you make a tutorial on it? :)

@@Alex-fz4bj unfortunately Gaea wasn't built to make tileable textures but I did come up with a method to make them seamless. I posted the file example on the facebook group but haven't made a video on the technique yet. Again, it wasn't made to do tiled textures so this method is a workaround more than anything. Your best bet is to use tools like Substance to create seamless versions.
