My family is from the Derry area, and my Granddad always said we were lucky to know any Gaeilge at all; it's amazing and refreshing to me to find someone who has actually managed to conduct most of his life speaking a language I've always been told was "dead or dying."

Can't help but smile to myself at the Italian teacher. I'd a taken the camera outside pointed at the house and said 'Teach' and then walked back inside!

Is aoibhinn liom an sraith seo atá á dhéanamh agat. D'foghlaim mo chuid Gaeilge ar scoil freisin agus thit mé i ngrá lei. Bhain mé céim amach in oideachas agus Gaeilge agus bhí mé i mo mhuinteoir scoile sula bhog mé go dtí na Stáit Aontaithe. Anois tá mé i mo chonai i Hawaii agus ag muineadh Gaeilge do roinnt Meiriceánach.

Go raibh maith agat. Thuig me a lán a rá sibh. Cheap me Suimuil nach maith leis na daoine Gaeilge a labhairt mar bhí a ngrammadaí go holc! I’d better write that in English I thought that it was interesting that people did not like to speak Irish because their grammar was bad! And they speaking their mother tongue! And here I am writing foul Irish.
