I would actually sell all my older bulky lighting equipment for three of those, throw them in a compact case and be covered for 95% of all my needs with extreme flexiblity on how to power them (v-mount, power bank, small power station etc. ) and occasionally rent a 720B or something similar on top when really needed.

Should we still be buying small bi-colour panels, eg. something like a ~50w 1x1, when we have small bi-color and full-color COBs? You can always soften a hard light as they say...

I’m not a pro gaffer but I want to be. As a pro, what circumstances would you choose low power lights in stead of dimming down a high powered lights other than size difference? It seems to me that if you can afford it you should just have a fleet of high powered LEDs and modifiers for whatever situation comes up.
@freednighthawk2 жыл бұрын
Size, weight, and rigging options. As an example, I once rigged a tiny little panel light onto a furni clamp to the top of a dividing wall. There would have been no way to safely mount a skypanel in the same location without building a pretty large rig. I'm not saying don't get some high firepower lights, but do not neglect getting some nice small lights as well.
@gaffergear2 жыл бұрын
I will add to what Kyle said by adding dimming range. If I use bigger fixtures they usually end up running at around 5%. Then if I need to fine tune the brightness I have problems. For example if a light dims in 1% increments, the difference between 5% and 4% is 20% in brightness level. That is definitely not a lot of scope for fine tuning. Also colour render and colour accuracy can be hit and miss below 10%.
@benparilis10812 жыл бұрын

the most affordable RGBACL full spectrum led. I have been searched information about the lighting because RGBACL can generate accurate spectrum which means a camera can get better result with the lighting. thank you for your detailed explanation and useful infos.
@gaffergear2 жыл бұрын
I think this is the most incredible light I have received in terms of its cost v what it can do. But the statements of some manufacturers about their RGBALC lights ability to recreate colour render that RGBWW can't is bordering on misleading. (Not Nanlite by the way) Some manufacturers are getting people very confused between colour render and colour gamut. At say 2000K this light would out colour render any current RGBWW light, and by a long way. But at 3200K and 5600K a decent RGBWW light would outperform this in terms of white light colour render. All be it not by enough for me to see it as a big negative for the work I do. Having said that, towards the end of the year I should be reviewing lights that have Deep Red, Red, Amber, Lime, Green, Cyan, Blue and Indigo. So RGBALC v RGBWW isn't the end game.
@108u92 жыл бұрын
@@gaffergear Hi Andrew, would like to hear on take on the different in the tech used for RGB lighting. Perhaps even between brands that use the same tech if there are differences there to take note of. Curtis Judd did a video comparing the Orion 300 and an Aputure 300x a while back. While the Orion fared worse based on metered readings, Curtis found that it did better to his eyes in terms of producing a more flattering result with the human subject he used. I thought it was an interesting result
@cagf20132 жыл бұрын
@@gaffergear that’s a great point of colour render vs. gamut being two very different things. Being able to dial in those rich yellows and 2000k in CCT mode with good results is the main reason I’m buying an RGBACL light. For typical daylight and tungsten balance, existing lights like RGBWW can do that really well already.

Thanks for getting this out so quickly. I've been really curious to see what this RGBACL tech can do in a familiar form factor. It's interesting that the SSI scores are a bit lower than other lights you review, but the TM-30 is very good. I'm guessing that's because the spectrum has a bit of a wonky shape compared to traditional LED technology?
@nshea32862 жыл бұрын
Take a look at the spectrum above 650nm. RGBACL lights tend to cut off the spectrum(towards red) earlier than RGBWW and to compensate to maintain CCT scores(Blue-Red balance) have a bit of a red spike. SSI weights every part of the spectrum equally - so the missing spectrum from about 650-680 and the spike, lower the SSI score.

Hey all! Question regarding output: Is there a particular property of the color blue or human eyes or perhaps how RGB lights are built that makes it that lights are weakest when outputting blue?
