Gaggia Classic - Installing the new Shades of Coffee steam valve

Just got my Shades of Coffee steam valve delivered to Australia, immediately installed. Got the “in stock” notification 20th Sep, delivered and installed 26th. Super simple replacement but checked the video to understand why it was so stuck… took quite a bit to remove the old one. Really grateful that someone manufactured a better and serviceable valve.

Installation instruction should inform people there is a need to apply some grease the o-rings and inspect for metal shavings from the factory. My valve had completely dry o-rings, while the servicing video shows generous application of grease .

You weren't wrong about the swearing. First time removing original valve from a 2001 machine. Took hours to finally get it wriggling from side to side 😅

Thanks for a much needed improvement. I fitted it about a month ago to my 10 year old Gaggia Classic, and not a single steam leaking drip since then! (I will let you know in a few years how it holds up😊) Also the steam pressure now seems stronger and more consistent. I love the commercial build quality of the machine with mechanical repairable parts rather than electronics. But I am surprised that Gaggia themselves have not fixed the well-known issue of the steam valve design leaking. Anyway their loss is your business gain!
