The KV-1E in War Thunder is a Rank 3 Heavy Tank that has always caused issues. This absolute monster has 100mm of armor pretty much all round and because it's only Battle Rating 4.0 it means it can face many vehicles that don't stand a chance of putting a dent in it.
The KV-1E is practically a Tiger Tank that sits at a lower Battle Rating with a worse cannon. What's better about this, though... is the armour overlaps giving it some serious volumetric protection.
You absolutely do not want to face this thing head on at low tier! The unfortunate truth is, this vehicle gets spammed out by stats padders which makes life tough for new players!

What i find interesting is that the B1 Bis (and especially TER) used to be in this exact situation. Big fat armor, but with a pretty weak gun. So, it was severely under tiered just like the KV1E. However, the B1 was up tiered by almost an entire BR, making it far less OP, and especially in uptiers when it struggle A LOT. Meanwhile, in Russia Land, the KV1E still sits at a very, very confortable BR. That does not seems fair to me tbh

@@TheJimyyy Most people that i’ve seen that have the vehicle in their service record have a 2kd ratio minimum and i’ve seen people with a 5kd ratio plus easily in the KV-1E. The armor on the KV-1E is 100mms everywhere, easy af to angle not to mention it’s spaced which helps it. After some thought 4.3 would definitely be a better br for it than 4.0 and 4.7.

@@sesameoil0009 i have it and is not invincible . i have around 3.5 kd ratio whit it and 75% win rate . if you down tier it will do very well but in a middle br game or down tier when you face 5.0 the armor is nothing most gun you face can pen it and angling it dont prevent you from dying it have weak spot and a good player will know them . and because the gun have only 88mm of pen you need be at close range and even there it have trouble to pen a lot of stuff . this tank cant even pen a sherman from the front when the sherman can

I had a 2:1 kill ratio with this back when I didn't have a 2:1 ratio in ANYTHING. I probably would have quit WT if not for the KV1E. It was a great vehicle to go back and learn in when I had gotten all the way to 8.3 and was really struggling with everything and my play was awful.

I just go back and play my M22 at 9.0+ whenever that happens. It’s so much more fun when you’re not worrying about the consequences of dying and losing 10K per tank while only needing to get one kill to be successful. 20K, even after the nerfs, at a max price tag of 404 SL is a lot more rewarding to pull off. Especially since you have to be SO smart about it as you’re fighting vastly better opponents at the highest tiers of play.

I played this tank to get the required “adamant” awards. It did take a little bit of time, but I got there relatively quickly. This thing could definitely go to 4.3-4.7. It is a bit better now that all panzer 4 variants are below it, but I still got near 10 kill matches pretty consistently.

I’m in two minds. I actually like the challenge of taking out a heavier target. It may be rewarded the same in game but the satisfaction is greater. If I wanted to play easy mode, we would all be in the same Sherman. Like fighting a glorious MAUS - could be the highlight on a battle (although the MAUS is done dirty by the high pen rounds).

Fighting a tank duel against a Maus would be very fun if you were just fighting the Maus. But when you have to fight it like a f*cking dark souls boss or shadow of the colossus hunt and some asshole pops around the corner in a Puma and just shoots you in the face (instskilling you because bullsh*t) while you’re trying to get around beside it for the finishing blow, it’s just frustrating. I’d rather just bring my damn CEV and one shot the bitch to just get it over with.

@@caralho5237 don’t forget this applies to other vehicles. I mean the M4 105 was at 2.7, MENTAL!. A 5.0 hull against people with reserve tier tanks in there line up. Unfortunately it’s just the game - we either have to find the fun in it or move on to another game, lots of goodies out there. I love taking my 3.3 Achilles out when I see I’m against Russia and putting a few holes in an expensive KV1E 😆 For me the fun thing is it make you adapt - you see your against Russia, likely KV1E, you will likely need to flank a key point and take out a TD for your first vehicle but I appreciate I’m not the majority.

​@@caralho5237 The KV-1E is no exception to that. The turret neck is an easy pen from the rear, and the sides have standard KV-1 armour in the area in the middle of the tracks. And if the KV-1E is facing Germany, like it does 90% of the time, their long 75mms cut through its armour like butter. It gets one shot by Pz.IVs easily.

I think a good comparison is the Black Prince: Same armour ~100mm on Turret front and sides KV-1 has better mobility (its backwards gear is nearly as good as the Black Prince's best forward gear) Gun is arguably better for its BR on the KV (it oneshots nearly everything it pens vs. Black Prince can pen nearly everything at most angles without doing big damage) I guess the KV-1 should be 2.0 BR lower.

I literally cringed watching them die while their team was bleeding tickets. Funnily enough, the other team actually did the same thing at the C cap and died too. This might be an unpopular opinion, but I think bad teams like this are just as bad of a problem as economy in this game, if not worse.

Thought I was alone with that issue, it always seems like as soon as you're winning, whole team decides: "we're winning, and that's cool, but what if we win just that little bit harder?" and instead completely throw the whole game :C.

T14: 4.7 with a 75mm cannon that has similar performance and less armor overall and a squishy turret KV-1E/B: 4.0 with frontal tiger armor, extra side plates that make it volumetric hell and a russian 76mm that has some Absurd shell normalization Seems Balanced to me

I literally just got done finishing the Calliope video and laughing at the "underperforming" jokes. I'm looking at my phone, the second the video ends, notification for this one pops up. I really wish I'd bought this thing during the last sale. I love the Russian 4.0 lineup, and this would round it out so perfectly. Also, it's just my favorite KV-1 in terms of looks.

The KV-1E is the only tank I have consistantly gotten 10-15+ kill games with. It is a RARE time if I have less than double digits with this menace
