Kinda funny how the skull of Monoblos was in more games then Monoblos itself.

There are a few noteworthy things I'd like to add, mostly regarding some of the older Monsters: -Like Gaijin mentioned at 6:16, King Shakalaka wasn't actually a large monster till Freedom Unite/Portable 2nd G. In order to get him to spawn originally you'd need to defeat Shakalakas hidden throughout the map in certain ranks/locales. -King Shakalaka is actually incredibly important in Monster Hunter Dos, as one of it's rare drops is a very special item, the Song of Origins. This song let you unlock the Forest and Hills, along with Rathalos in High Rank~ It's a really cool way to bring back an old area and celebrate the game it's a sequel to, it's a bit of a folk tale you can find NPCs talking about too! -It's unclear if it's a bug or an intentional/quirky semi-implemented puzzle, but there is a way to get him to respawn several times too, under the right conditions (it's something I've spent years researching) -In Freedom Unite, they would give him a proper fight beyond just sharing a base Shakalaka's moveset. -King Shakalaka does have a cool spiritual successor in World, while it's not really a large monster (similar to the original King Shaka), it's an awesome addition ^.^ -First, I do like Queen Vespoid and think it's always worth playing every MH game, but her fight does often get cheesed with Flash bombs which is unfortunate. I would personally recommend doing her early into high rank and without proper gear, but to each their own~ -Her origins/design actually starts in Monster Hunter Freedom 2/Portable 2nd, where there is an Event to slay a ton of Vespoid to get a very large (and bulky) regular Vespoid spawn. -Uniquely in Dos, due to the Day-Night/Season cycle, you could actually get a giant electric effect on it by using Lightning Rods in the rainy night version of the Fortress. -You can also jump inside and carve the Lao Shan Skull/Shell, along with planting Anti-Dragon Bombs (which luckily bypass the rain disabling bombs). -In order to get Shen Gaoren to appear in Dos (along with any other siege), you and the rest of the server's players would need to spot Dragonseer Balloons out on quests to build a up to a siege! -Shen is also the only siege that takes place in both Dundorma and the Fort! Anyway just some fun fact stuff, good video ;3

Third generation is the earliest I’ve ventured in this series, but I like the concept of secret monsters that you find by exploring/experimenting. Kinda reminds me of Rise’s rare endemic life, but you can’t actually fight those. It’d be awesome if Wilds has similar secret bosses like what you’re describing

9:46 Funny thing is that Generation 5 didn't introduce a *single* new (proper) Neopteron into the series. All of the "Neopterons" in Generation 5 are classified as Endemic Life, like the Vigorwasps, the Wiggly Litchi, and the Wedge Beetles (which would totally fit into the Neopteron class if they were properly considered Small Monsters.)

the "Garon" relation with "wolf" is likely "garou" from "loup garou" (werewolf), interestingly, many IPs use that "garou" for the wolf theme, but in french it wuold be the "loup" part, the "garou" part is the english "were", referring to "man that becomes X"

It's funny having started MH back in october with sales. Cuz I saw Jyuratodus and IMMEDIATELY clocked the fins and shape of the head n just said aloud in VC "that's a coelacanth!" which... Yeah! Is a prehistoric fish! In fact it's still alive and kicking today and has these thick armoured scales and whatnot. So I took ONE look at fishy boi and went "you're armoured and are gonna make my swaxe bounce" .... Technically yes, but with mud! I dunno I just thought it was super neat that I could clock how it'd work based off its inspired appearances. There's a few monsters I've been able to do that with (Diablos is another one, purely because I saw the big ol shovel horns AND the ceratopsian crest and went "you're in a sandpit. If you don't charge and dig I'll be impressed". Mf sucked because I didn't know he was basically a sandworm so I didn't have the screamer pods LOL) and it's mad fun to just /watch/ them before picking a fight and sort of... Digest how they work at a distance. Maybe that's just me, but I find it fun lol.

25:56 Scorned Magnamalo is too much of a Zoro reference to ignore, purplish flames, 3 blades if you count the arm blades and the tail, blind/damaged in one eye, scarred all over and too angry to die, i mean his intro is full anime sword fight versus a Zinogre. Quick context for the 20th anniversary monster popularity poll: The poll simply asked for your favorite monster and you had to pick ONE. So it’s not that monsters at the bottom of the list are the least popular, though that’s largely true, it’s just that they aren’t anyone’s favorite. It’s why a lot of subspecies are down there since they’re palette swaps. I also think the poll has screwy data in general because it lists all subspecies and variants, meaning monster votes are split. Like Deviljho, Brachydios, and rajang, which listed their popular variants separately, meaning their votes are split. Valstrax got #4 but Crimson Glow Valstrax got #20, it’s just weird. I believe the overall top 20 it’s just very messy, I think they should have left subspecies and variants out for cleaner data.

I'll always defend that "elder dragon" should be a title, NOT a classification. Kirin is a fanged wyvern. Nakarkos and tsukami are cephalopods or whatever in universe name they'd give their evolutionary branch. Dalamadur is a damned snake wyvern alright. Etc. By current logic, ahtal-ka should be classified as an elder dragon.

Najarala's name; would that be a mixing of 'naja/naga' (mythical snake creatures) and 'rajah' (king in various languages such as Indonesian)? I always felt that Narajala had a regal feel to it. Also fought both King Shakalaka and Vespoin Queen back in freedom unite. The only thing that I remember sticking out about the Vespoid Queen was spending more than half the hunt killing enough bugs to get her to spawn. King Shakala on the other hand I would like to see return (or a similar variant). I have memories of getting horribly ganked by the King. The fight was in a tiny alcove of an area, so not much room for positioning. The King summons tons of minions as soon as he agros and I died very quickly to 1,000 cuts...I presume you're supposed to bait the King out of the area. And he spews fire from his crown.

I always find it strange that the final bosses Akantor, Ukanlos and Ahtal-ka aren't classified as elder dragons but Neopteron for Ahtal-ka and flying wyvern for Akantor and Ukanlos. I guess because they use the flying wyern models judging by the way the move. Regardless its their respective arenas that stop traps from being placed so theorically you could trap these monsters in a locale that allows traps. I assume you will talk about the two ??? monsters of gore magala and choatic gore magala even though they could be classified as flying wyverns.

How are entire species referred to in Japan, including the Base Species and all subspecies/variants/rare species all at once? This is at least a problem in English as referring to the Base Species as the Base Species is easy but referring to the species as whole is always a little odd. Personally at least for the English names I think giving Base Species a subspecies adjective would be easy and additionally make the setting/world of Monster Hunter feel more developed.

I'm sad that everyone had fun with Ahtal Ka but my experience was ruined. In my excitement to finally fight it, I asked a few people in an online MH group to help me and it's my first time so I don't care to farm it. I noticed they were all Valor HBG when the poor thing died in like 5 mins, i barely got to do anything. Just confused running up and down and all around, and chasing it while it got brutally murdered. I hated it, I was heartbroken. I didn't have the heart to complain so I just thanked them and I'm just so saddened by that experience I never fought her since. Maybe one day. They fucked up my first hunt, and i can't undo that. so it'll be bittersweet.

I think something about the name being vaguely similar to the Spanish word for the color orange (naranja) and the orange accents on the monster paired with the greens kinda reminding me of the unripe fruit. I'm not a native Spanish speaker, so why I came to this conclusion is beyond me. Does this make sense to anybody else or am I just making connections where there aren't any?

When Gaijin gets around to Gore Magala, is he putting it in its own category, or is it going with the other Elder Dragons because it grows into Shagara Magala? The one thing that I remember correctly about it is the question marks in it’s classification category when you look at it in the hunter notes on the large monsters, and when you to kill Shagara, it is classified as an Elder Dragon. That’s all I have to ask and would rather not start a whole fight about its classification with everyone.
