Year of dreams. RG Nu and MG F90 were wish list kits for me since I got back into the hobby. And then MG Barbatos was the kit everyone said would never happen; the kit I didn't know I even wanted, and it's just epic. Barbatos ended up really being my muse. It gave me ideas for detailing and inspired me to learn new techniques, and it ended up being the best thing I've built.

Mecha: "Raise the bar so high the competition doesn't stand a chance" You heard it here folks. Gunpla is the reason why we don't get many new mecha anime anymore. Gundam has killed modern mecha anime. Edit: Damn I didn't expect this comment to blow up. In reality I was exaggerating a bit in a cynical joking manner. I'm well aware there are other factors as to why we don't get a lot of brand new mecha anime like we used to. Like studio budgets, bad writing, changing trends, etc. So I know Gundam isn't completely at fault. I just know that when it comes to the merchandising side of mecha it's really hard for new brands to stand out in the market when a juggernaut IP like Gundam crowds it. Especially in the model kit business.

@@darkpersonal They're also expensive to make and require toy sales to offset the cost. But it's hard to make money when you gotta compete against Gundam. If bad story telling is the issue then why do we still get badly written light novel isekai shows. Or a ton of bad harem shows in the 2000s. A genre can still stick around even if there are ones with unremarkable stories.

I really enjoyed every minute of my building of RG Nu Gundam so I agree with your choice to put it at the first place. I haven't built yet the MG Barbatos, so as the G40 Gundam (I'm really excited) but I think that HG Narrative C-Packs and HG Sandrock can be easily added to this list. They are incredibly fun to build, poseable and solid. This is not a critique but only my opinion, and their exclusion don't change the respect and the esteem I have for you. I was waiting for this list, even because your reviews help me to buy every Gunpla I have in the last two years, and I'm happy to have again a lot of them in my collection. Just started to build gunpla last 2018 and its because of a eye catching RG Sazabi. Casual builder here. And I only built Dynames for 2019. It's a great kit that I had fun customizing with leftover plastic glued on to give it an asymmetrical armored look. As for this year, I did get an RG Nu and HG Age 2 Magnum SV. Aside from an unfortunate set of connectors for the funnels, the Nu is as solid as can be for me, and I confidently left it as is with only some selective sticker application, panel lining and minor coloring to give it extra pop. Age 2 Magnum SV is currently getting some paint on it to give it's Arthurian knight theme up to eleven by making it a Saber reference from the Fate Series.
