I have the Lightning Zeta and it does still use some red stickers here and there, just not to the extent of this kit, though they're pretty easy to paint. Still love it, even though it's not as stable nowadays :|

Honestly, the parts forming doesn't bother me because it doesn't really affect the structural integrity of the ms mode I mean, it's still really stable and posable. The parts forming is really just a gimmick and the main thing we should really focus on is the ms.

@@barrybend7189 By that point, they'd rather make an RG Zeta 2.0 than make an HG that has the same technology. HG's by their very nature are supposed to be cheap, simple and affordable for their size, and having an HG Zeta with the complication of an RG would defeat that purpose. Besides that, personally I like that the HGUC Zeta Gundams (both the first one and this one) are partsformers, because they tend to be a lot more stable and solid than if they used the normal Zeta transformation methods. There is a reason why most Gundam transformations in the last couple of decades have pretty much abandoned the contortionist nature of the Zeta's transformation and stuck to mechanically simple ones (hell, even the Aegis Gundam, as weird as it was, actually had a rather simple transformation) that translate well to model kits.

This was my second ever model kit after the RX 78 2 HG and lemme tell you this build give me arthritis because the surprise it gave me to build it was large. To answer your question, on the old HG that little part would actually slide down a track when turning it into the waverider. After that you'd adjust the white piece that covers the thruster on the back of the leg. The blue parts on the torso and back (not to mention it's tail) actually were a pretty neat gimmick, where they'd fold around the white part of the torso before being locked in place with the head. Outside of the leg sections being really shakey (and the gun being really awkward to pose with because the piece where it attaches to the waverider doesn't fold in. Oh, and the oldschool molded-in-hand beamsaber you'll have to paint) the old HG aged pretty well, I just finished the Zeta Evolution and while it does have better proportions, engineering and details, not to mention the skirts are far less apt to fly off, there's just something I really like about the older version. It's comforting like a toy from your childhood.

Okay. I had the original MG Zeta Gundam (from 1996). Funny thing is that all the complaints about floppiness it had, I never experienced, my copy was solid as steel. Then I got the PG Zeta a few years later...and all the praises about how solid it was were never a thing on my copy outside of being in Mobile Suit Mode. Waverider was a floptastic mess. I was disappointed by the partsforming nature of the HG & first HGUC versions. But I saw this one at GameStop last year, and said "wtf, why not". Still not entirely sold on the partsforming nature, BUT!! The Waverider Mode looks incredible...easily better lookin' than the bigger ones!! Only thing I legit don't like is that the beam rifle doesn't sit quite centered when mounted. (That and now I just accidentally learned the hard way that the barrel is *JUST AS FRAGILE* as the PG's beam rifle barrel, if not worse.)

I have the RG version and just bought this HG because the joint parts of the RG actually broke due to the fragility it has and cannot transform the kit into Mobile Suit mode again without risking to break it (again). I'm VERY happy to see that this version is great and I can have my favorite Gundam-type in the two modes forever ❤️❤️

The old hg doesn't have the removable knee bits that secure them in place. It did however have some fancy automorph features included that was cool but made the knee floppy as hell.

For the Zeta's backpack, you can use it's hinges to move the wings inward, so the arms won't be blocked. Nice manhandling though.

I bought one of these. The kit was solid at first, but after playing around with it for a few months, it got REALLY FLOPPY. When you shake the gunpla, it wiggles. I kid you not, there is no friction at all in the joints, so my gunpla cannot stand at all. Might just be mine, but thought I'd point it out.

Otonashi Because transformations in general, partsforming or not, require areas of the kit to be specifically engineered to accommodate for the transformation, which for simple high grades it means usually compromising structural integrity. whether from loose/awkward joints because of overcomplicated mechanisms on a HG budget or weak connections for partsforming removal.

Personally, I disagree about this being a boring build. I definitely appreciated the engineering as I snapped it together. However, my biggest issues is the the head articulation. There is almost ZERO side to side rotation. I had to modify the head and yellow collar on mine extensively just to get that. That's not "evolution." That's not even a genetic throwback. It's a recessive trait that even the most primitive of Gunpla didn't share. Overall though, I'm very pleased with the end result, especially after making a few minor adjustments to some of the tightness tolerances. This is not a beginner build, but I think this might be the best Zeta Gundam kit yet. Aside from the old SD. That thing was a delight~ Anyway, awesome review, Mecha Gaikotsu!

Trust me, it's not just articulation. The old one has looser construction, feels hollow, a toothpick beam saber, and the waverider has missing details like the crotc. Honestly this kit is a lot better than that old HG, and there are a considerable amount of differences

Just got the kit and it’s good! Def better than the RG. But only major problem is that the legs have gotten REALLY wobbly. Is this a common problem and is there any way to fix it?

To tighten the joint, take the leg off, add clear nail polish on the loose joints, let it dry, then rebuild. Reapply as necessary until it tightens up. On mine I had to do this several times on several joints in the hips and at the top of the legs. I took off each leg, took apart the polycap that lets the leg tilt outward, applied nailpolish around the peg, that was the big one that made him have wobbly legs. I also did the same thing on the tilting waist part's pegs. You can also use paint or superglue, obviously make sure it's completely dry before you put it back together. There might be some residue left behind, but the basic idea is that it adds friction and makes the connection tighter.

The HG MSZ-006 Zeta Gundam (GunPla Evolution Ver) looks good minus the large amount of red stickers. But even those stickers aren't too bad. Eek. The RG MSZ-006 Zeta Gundam didn't fare too well. Perhaps it's time for an MG MSZ-006 Zeta Gundam Ver. 3.0? For the first kit in a the GunPla Evolution Project, this isn't that bad. Hopefully this leads to the HG 00 series of kits getting updates.

Not going to lie, I hated this kit for a long time because it wouldn't stand on it's own. Then a year on I noticed I'd assembled the toe section wrong when I realized the feet should close up rather then open. Not my finest moment. I got a second kit but used it for the Waverider. I still have the old one, broken feet and all, on a action base in the center of all my other kits to remind myself of my mistake.

Hey Mecha. Good review, very infornative. Was looking forward to this when you did the unboxing. Just my two cents. I own the older version of the HG Zeta, and for Bandai to be able to include the arms into the transformation is a huge improvement indeed. Keep up the good reviews.
