Don't be fooled by the reviews of the Fullbore pedal, it is a beast. The problem is it takes time to sit down and finesse the knobs to the correct combination. The frequency sweep knob is the real key to it all, one slight turn left or right can turn an amazing sound to crap and vice versa. I turn the Frequency sweep to around 4 and the high(treble) to almost zero. The problem with these review vids is the high is set to like 5 which is crazy as it sounds is way too much. I literally have my high set to around 1.

I plug my Chapman ML2 (lefty, not that it matters, but hey) into a Fullbore, into my Orange CR120 and Laney IRT 212. My settings: vol 10 o'clock, freq 10 o'clock, gain 9 o'clock, bass 2 o'clock, mid 2-3 o'clock, high 10 o'clock. Cuts right through my band's mix without overwhelming the other guitarist (who uses POD HDPRO) or drowning the bass out.

2 years on from my original comment and after owning a Helix for 8 months, I built another pedalboard. I just bought an MXR Fullbore again and man, this pedal is amazing to my ears! I know it's too brutal for most but it just ticks all the boxes for me. Everything at 12 o'clock (a good starting point) and BOOM! I don't really use the mid-scoop button as it's too much IMO. I only want that 'all out metal' tone from this pedal and it is not on my board to do clean or subtle! Vastly underrated pedal IMO and is only bad to those who do not dial it in correctly. It can sound fizzy with the wrong amp / guitar but maybe I got lucky with my setup...

Your set is making the Fullbore much more noisey than usual. The MXR M116 is a GREAT METAL pedal, but you have to learn how to tame the beast. Once you EQ it right it's pure chaosbreeder. If you don't like it, you probably don't like high gain distortions, and metal...

You don't really get more distortion than you do on a Fullbore. I use mine with half gain and scooped mids. Sounds brutal through any solid-state amp. I sometimes use a Maxon OD808 as a clean boost in front for more sustain. The Fullbore is the only distortion pedal I have now...
@MusicBlissMalaysiaTV7 жыл бұрын

Just the comparison I wanted to see. I agree that the Fullbore has more gain, very noticeably so, but I also agree that the Badass would be good stack where the Fullbore would probably overwelm another fx pedal. Also, sd in the comments, I think the Badass is certainly more versatile even though it has less gain. I suppose it's a matter of preference, and it's not that I think the Fullbore isn't any better or worse, but unless you wanted that insane ammount of gain all the time (even though I love it) you would be better off wiht the Badass. The other thing that speaks to me about the Badass are the simplest of controls, basically one does the same think on an amp to get distortion--you overdrive a channel and then dial in the volume, something I've done for years and I have never needed a distortion pedal. That said, I agree with comments on some of the other reviews that if you simply have a good amp and know how to tweak your channels, you have no need for a distortion pedal.

I own the Super Badass. It's a very good and versatile dirt box, but it doesn't go anywhere near the "more modern metal" they advertise. To accomplish that I use a Marshall BluesBraker 2 to juice it up [I find it a very good pair, given that the BB2 really opens up the sound and character of the SBA or even to the Seymour Duncan Tweak Fuzz I also have]. The EQ on the SBA is also quite good. I find the FB to be way to hairy and buzz saw nasty [which I personaly dislike on a dirt box]. It has a very strange EQ as well.

I have the Super badass distortion pedal with my Blackstar ID 30 TVP amp, but like you are saying I'm not getting anywhere near the modern metal sound. Do you reccomend me using the Marshall Bluesbraker 2 with my superbadass distortion to get that metal sound. (can you please make a very very quick video of you using those two pedals, I'd really appreciate it.)
@jumpingman81608 жыл бұрын
I Am Your Mother Hi Sadly I don't have any way of making a video [and I was asked quite a few times to do pedal demos]. I do recommend the BB2 by itself. It's a damn good and inexpensive overdrive + clean booster [you can chose either of the two functions]. Also built like an absolute tank. The character of the BB2 allows it to further drive any dirt box you may have to get that extra "something". I do, however, recommend a noise gate when using the BB2 with the SBA cause it can get a bit noisy. But the result is quite good. I'm very please with how the BB2 works with other dirt pedals [if you put the tone of the BB2 at around 1 to 3 o'clock it really "opens" whatever dirt pedal it feeds].
@yaboi60748 жыл бұрын
Thanks! I already have a noise gate so I probably will get the BB2
