As someone who also learns languages as a hobby I appreciate how difficult it is to explain such complex topics in another language, and despite English not being your mother tongue, your explanation was very clear and concise, very impressive work! Thanks again for these tutorials Marko, they are and have been extremely helpful.

Indeed, but this was a 4th try to make this video from 1 shoot. As i feel the videos made from 1 shoot are the best, and they go more smootlly than the ones recorded from few sessions.

I will never have two leads with 0db peak, that lead is just to much, i will compress the mid of that lead, reduce peaks with StandardClip or Limiter, and bring it to be at least -6db

As i explained in the video, important part is to reduce gain on the input, fader is the last in the chain and it is not a way to reduce gain.

@@stivestokkeprygl1025 If there a video of me explaining, then I said 100% that it needs to be reduced on the input. If you watch this video carefully you will hear that gain on the input needs to be reduced, not on the end., It might be a confusion as we text here and it is not easy to explain everything in text form.

@@EClipChannel no no thats not what I mean. I mean I have seen it from other youtubers somewhere. That the input level is not touched and mix the volume down in mixerchannel
@EClipChannel
@EClipChannel 3 жыл бұрын
@@stivestokkeprygl1025 That is really wrong, actually that's the only thing you can do wrong, as the gain is the 1st in the chain, the fader is the last on the chain. Internet is full of wrong formations and that is one of the reasons why I started making this tutorials. There are a few channels that are giving really good information and I will make a video about that as well.

first of all, thanks for your great work, the way you explain is very nice and easy to understand, your english is quite good actually! maybe my question is offtopic but i thought its better to put it under the newest video. what do you think of producing/tuning tracks into 432hz?
@EClipChannel
@EClipChannel 3 жыл бұрын
To be honest, I never tried it but I will make a track on 432, just you will be limited on VSTis that can be set to 432, as not all of VSTi have tuning option. Also it would be really hard tuning the samples from 440 to 432. But if you know how to do it correctly, then it shouldn't be a problem. As I know, Captain Hook few years ago was making all tracks in 432, and I believe 432 sound better than 440 to my ears.

@EClipChannel
@EClipChannel 3 жыл бұрын
A very small number of producers like to reveal their "secrets". I don't see them as secrets and as I mentioned before, it is not about the "secrets", I'm only showing what I think is the right direction, but to implement this knowledge in your music is something totally different. Getting the skills is the most important and hardest part of making music, and that you can get only by spending most time as possible on working on your music.

on VST Instruments is more easy, as you have on each "Output knob" , so you can set to reach a level of fade from VSTi Output and that would be all

what about when using VST emulations of vintage compressors and the like?.....would it matter to make sure the input is at the 'sweet spot'? people have said -18db is 0 on a VU meter...
@EClipChannel
@EClipChannel 3 жыл бұрын
That depends on how good the emulation was done. Some plugins need to be exactly on -18rms as they are full emulated, while some of the plugins are only visually made as they are emulation while the levels are not important.
@TheFujac
@TheFujac 3 жыл бұрын
@@EClipChannel that makes sense...i suppose the only way to be sure is to get hold of the developers of the plugins i use and ask them.... thanks for the reply!
@TheFujac
@TheFujac 3 жыл бұрын
@@EClipChannel just to update this.....i emailed Softube as i use a few of their vintage gear emulations and asked them about gains staging and a 'sweet spot' within the plugins and this is what they replied: "Yes, and no. We always start off by gain staging the units so that they match the levels when we connect them to a +4dBu interface -- just to make it easy for us to A/B-test. But when the A/B tests are done we often change the gain staging so that the plugin works better in a DAW. That can sometimes mean that we want to bring forth characteristics in the unit, the FET Compressor is for example known to sound good when driven hard, so we gain stage that a little bit harder than the Tube-Tech CL 1B, which works best for slightly lower levels. However, we have a rule-of-thumb that 0 VU on a plugin should be somewhere between -9 and -15 dBFS, and we take extreme care to make sure that the VU behaves just like the real hardware. So if you know that your Tube Tech CL 1B hardware sounds a particular way when the needle hits 0 VU, the plugin will sound the same with the needle at 0 VU. Regarding the S73 and Passive EQ in particular: The S73 is based on the 1973 plugin, which has been gain staged with 0 VU somewhere around -12 dBFS (can’t remember exactly). But the “Amount” knob effectively let you set the gain staging so that you get the right amount of gain reduction. I can’t remember how we did with the Passive EQ, but much of the distortion in that comes from the chokes used in the low frequency bell filters, and it will probably have a sweet spot at “normal” DAW levels, say -18 dB RMS and occasional peaks reaching all the way up to (and above) 0 dBFS."

can we use a vu-meter and move it after adding any effect and make sure it hits 0db?
@EClipChannel
@EClipChannel 3 жыл бұрын
VU meter is a bit different, VU meter will show you +4dBu, which is perfect for hardware gain staging. If you don't use any hardware, then I think it's easier without VU meter, just be careful with not clipping the channels and that's it.

There is no need to go that low on -18rms, if you mix ITB (already said in the video). This i say from my expirience, as converters (AD/DA) are working better on higher levels and only thing is to make a bit of headroom for processing.

@@MrDiegod82 Debate is always welcome, I really love discussing those topics. When it comes to dynamics: All our tracks end up on -5rms or even -3rms. Saving dynamics more than 5 db doesn't have any sense to me, as keeping dynamics in the mix all of them will get destroyed in mastering. I prefer to keep only those 5db that will stay on the end, and that way I can prepare my mixes for mastering.
