Thank you for posting this comparison review. Its obvious that you put a lot of thought and effort into the presentation of this comparison for the sake of your viewers. If I could only purchase one amp, I think I would lean towards the Loudbox Mini, simply because of its natural representation of the guitar. Well done!

You're very welcome. Thank you for your kind words. I heartily recommend the Loudbox Mini charge. I am not sure how different the Loudbox Mini is from the "charge" version that also runs on battery. Mine is the "Mini Charge". If you get one, dial down the midrange EQ on the amp (to whatever sounds good to you). You will get a great tone! I plug into the Mini Charge at home 99% of the time. It always sounds 'natural' to me.

Hi Gary! I just bought the Bose 2 days ago and am planning on using it at a restaurant outside this Saturday. We get stuff here in Mexico a couple of years later than the States, so it was great seeing your review! I have used my Fishman for several years and recently got it out of the shop because of a noise issue. I have used it busking, in open air courtyards, the beach, restaurants and as a monitor when I play Friday nights a a hotel. I love my Fishman but wanted something else because the repair technicians here aren’t the best and I don’t want to find myself without my amp! I play Andes music and instrumental covers on my pan flute and at times I play a Cuatro Venezolano, so I use both channels along with bluetooth backing tracks. What I have noticed in my practices in the house that the Fishman has more volume for my mic than the Bose but I like the sound of the tonematch mic switch. It never occurred to me to try my mic with the guitar setting, which could be interesting… Thank you for a great review; they’re both awesome amps and each has its shining points!! Keep the music playing.🎶

Thanks Gary for this new video. I agree with you, the Fishman is more natural for acoustic guitar and sounds great but the Bose is more versatile. I decided to buy the Bose after your first compare because of the excellent output of the voice, that for me is very important. Thanks again! Anyway the Bose is good also for the acoustic. Like I wrote you for the first your review I prefer use it without the pre-mic and matchbox settings, for me playing with tones the sound become more rich. Thanks for sharing!

I agree the Tonematch settings on the Bose S1 Pro limit your tonal EQ options. The Tonematch makes things more lean and pristine. That is not always the direction I want. The good thing is you can leave Tonematch switch Off and set the EQ knobs on the Bose S1 Pro the way you prefer.

Thanks for the great comparison. I currently own two S1 Pro speakers, and was contemplating the Loudbox Mini, but I think I'll stick with the S1. I prefer the extra bass, and don't mind a little extra treble. Also vocals sound great through it. I mainly use the S1 for small band jazz gigs on hollow body electric (sounds great), and for small solo gigs with tracks, vocals and guitar. However, there's nice detail on the Loudbox Mini, and the guitar just sounds more like a loud guitar, as opposed to a guitar coming through a PA, so I can see why folks rave about them.

I'm a solo and duet noob acoustic guitarist and singer (way more experience singing!), and I'm totally new to organizing my own amplification for gigs. After 101 KZbins about amps vs. PA's it's becoming clear to me what's the best investment for me. This video hit the target for comparing my two favorite options from either category, and you really delivered. The Fishman sounds more natural which is what I thought mattered most with acoustic, but the Bose has key features that make it more flexible for gigging without a huge band to compete with. Loudbox mini is 60 Watts, and the Bose is 150 so I'm curious. Surely the Boss get's a HELLA lot louder no?

Hi Michael, I'm not gonna water it down. The Fishman Loudbox Mini for vocals is WEAK. I would definitely get the Bose. It will mount on a stand, project better, sound better for vocals and it's perfectly fine for acoustic guitar. I do NOT use the Tone Match for the guitar in the Bose. I've learned acoustic guitar sounds better without this Tonematch switch for my guitars. The Bose is definitely more versatile and capable in my opinion as a singer/guitarist who performs solo and duo gigs also.

I know someone who has the Bose Tower and they use it in a 3 Piece Band, works amazingly. Didn't know it was a Bose system until I investigated what they were using. Moving forwards. I didn't like Bose desktop mobile wireless speakers because they sounded so "Boxy" or "Boomy" . ok, moving more forwards. Bluetooth Portable speakers. I purchased the EA Boom 3 (2 of them, stereo with the app) they work amazingly well for portable sound. One day, for some strange reason, I ended up purchasing the BOSE Micro Bluetooth Speaker and I am blown away by the resonant sounds that this little speaker produces, not to mention the decent high end tones are somewhat bright, but nicely EQ'ed to the speaker. What I would like to see BOSE do, is build a 5, preferably a 10, or 30 band Graphic, or I would be tickled if they did a Parametric EQ software built into the App that would get downloaded to your smart devices and manipulated there. Thanks for your Review. You play that instrument beautifully. I like your home studio, very pragmatic. I am inspired by this BOSE S1 PRO.

On the Bose S1 Pro (original version) I simply leave the tone match off and the switch is in the default position. But honestly, I don't use or play acoustic guitar into the Original Bose S1 Pro. I also upgraded from the Fishman Loudbox Mini to the Fishman Loudbox Artist. I find it tremendously more capable for my gigging needs. The Mini and Bose S1 Pro are fine for home or super quiet stuff. But they can easily be overloaded if I dig in hard on my acoustic at gigs.
@guitarandotherthings60902 ай бұрын
Beware of your ears! On this video I liked the Fishman more, when I played both in person i liked Bose wayyy more. Reason being is far more headroom. The Fishman sounded good at low volume, but as soon as I tried to match volume to the same as the Bose for a hearable busking level, you could tell the Fishman was struggling and got real "tinny" and brittle sounding. The mids (that you cant change) on the Bose are a little much (Play the first G on the B string to hear the canny, mid heavy sound), but I can tolerate that over the tinny thin brittle sound of the Fishman. The Fishman only sounded good at the same volume that you could hear the acoustic naturally unplugged anyways. So without power to provide headroom its pointless. i tried the little black amp tommy emmanuel uses and found both the bose and Fishman sound better somehow. The taylor amp also was a bust. So $$$ doesnt always mean better. Its Bose for me, i look forward to ordering the wireless transmitter and gig bag! Also, the AUX input on Bose somehow has better tone than the other two inputs, so much so I am willing to sacrifice reverb to use it. Only the other two inputs have reverb. I turn off any gimmicky settings, just keep the bass and treble on noon and use my Taylor's eq for the tone. Check out my "you got a friend in me" to hear the Bose. Thanks!
@gair19442 ай бұрын
Thanks for your detailed comments. One thing I've learned with KZbin videos is the compression tends to level everything out in terms of volume. This makes it hard to discern levels of headroom or punch. I agree the Fishman Mini is insufficient in terms of clean headroom. Since I made this video I added a new battery powered contender: The Electrovoice Everse 8. It has an 8" speaker, an App for your phone with a lot of EQ / tone shaping capability. It has more headroom than the Bose S1 Pro or Fishman Loudbox Mini Charge and it has a very capable battery. It can also be stand mounted or tilted back on the ground.

Like both, but keep leaning toward the Fishman Mini Charge. How does the Fishman Mini Charge sound with vocals ? I'm more of a singer than fine guitarist as yourself.
@jeffbellin82242 ай бұрын
I'm kind of like you, more singer than master acoustic player. In my comparison, my voice sounds more accurate through the Fishman Mini than the Bose. Bose tends to tip up the top end and the bass. Sounds exciting, but not as accurate. The Microphone tone setting on the Bose was clearly meant for speaking as opposed to singing. It further boosts the top and lower end. It adds a lot of presence to cut through noise, but it's far from accurate voice reproduction.
@jeffbellin82242 ай бұрын
I'm looking for an upgrade from a Roland Street Cube. I'm focusing on a Fishman Mini Charge and the Bose S1 Pro+. I'll be using it, as a singer/songwriter, with a ukulele accompanying my vocal. From your (really sweet guitar playing), the Fishman sounds better, more natural. In the store, the Bose had a bass boost, which gave it more bloom, but the textural harmonic aspects of both my voice and ukulele (as well as your guitar) come through more with the Fishman. In contrast, the Bose seems slightly muffled or more syrupy, with the inner detail of your guitar subsumed.
@gair19442 ай бұрын
@@jeffbellin8224 do you need battery power? If not I’m getting better performance from Gishman Loudbox Artist. It has more volume and projection than the mini. Also I run an Electrovoice Everse 8 battery power 8” PA speaker from the direct output of the Fishman as well. The eVerse 8 is a good battery powered option as well.
@jeffbellin82242 ай бұрын
Yeah, I want battery power. The Artist goes deeper, and as a consequence, will have more natural bloom. But playing the ukulele, it doesn't go as deep as a guitar. I had both the S1 Pro+ and Mini Charge at home in my backyard. With a Sennheiser E835 microphone, both my wife and I agreed that the Fishman sounded better, more natural. I don't know how much the Mini Charge will bottom out at louder volumes. We plan to take both to an open field and see. The Bose, as a PA speaker, seems more potentially versatile, but the Fishman seems more tonally accurate.

@@thirdgearband in reality I almost never need pure battery power alone. It is merely a convenience unless I’m performing for a wedding ceremony on a lawn at a park.

@@gair1944 good 👍 for you I do busking so battery 🔋 power is a must and easy transport. Either way the Bose S1-Pro are great vocal speakers and the Loudbox is awesome for my Martin acoustic.

I found the bose to be very mid heavy but if you put a Dream 65 or some preamp between it you can get rid of that canny sound. Just found out tonight. Listen to my "you got a friend in me" without the preamp then listen to "what a friend we have in Jesus" with the preamp and you will hear the difference. The preamp gives it a much more acoustic sound.

I prefer the Bose, but it's close.

The Fishman sounds better for me :-)

no clue how to do a meaningful comparison. this is worthless for those trying to decide between the two. try NOT talking (it's apparent you like your own voice) and playing them side by side, back to back

Brutal comments. I’ve had others invite me to provide more commentary. Take what you like and leave the rest. If you don’t like anything that’s fine too. Sorry it didn’t work for you.

@@gair1944 can you please tell me how you had the fishman EQ set in the reverb? Thank you

@@FrankSpeer66 I always set the bass to 11 o'clock, Midrange dialed down all the way to its minimum, Treble to 10 oclock and reverb at 10-11 o'clock.

Thanks for listening. I do scoop the midi by dialing the Midrange EQ knob down almost all the way. It sounds better that way to 'me' and that is my preference. For playing acoustic amplified with no vocals I always prefer the Fishman. But for acoustic and vocals, the Bose sounds better. (to me)
