As a chaplain in the field of Hospice. I find this song to be a blessing and healing to patients, especially to those who want to receive Christ as their personal Savior. This song is the song, I sing to my patients, that leads them to my Gentle Shepherd. And I sing it with conviction. Why? Because Jesus Is A Gentle Shepherd, who have been misrepresented, as a harsh and judgmental God, one who want to send people to hell or can't wait for us to fall so He can punish us. This is not true. He loves us and the cross testifies to this. And I love Him so. I will sing and testify of His love, for the rest of my life. May this meditative song reminds us He is you, He is our "Gentle Shepherd".

I wrote Gentle Shepherd in 1973. I was removed from my home and taken to a Catholic monestery near St Joseph MO. I met Brother Steven and was inspired by his faith. He was very concerned about the racial prejudice of most of the Catholic bishops. Thus the line For we need You to help us find the Way!
