I have to add this Glenn Payne story..I was at a concert in Atlanta. They were selling CD’s after the program and I bought one. Glenn was working the kiosk and the CD I bought was $9. I gave him a 10 and he looked in the draw for change, there wasn’t any. He pulled out his billfold and pulled a dollar out and gave it to me….then turned to the others that were working and said “somebody owes me a dollar”..I fell in the floor laughing…what a beautiful man he was…lol

Glen and George together were the best foundation for an incredibly great quartet. From the beginning they also attracted some of the best singers in Southern Gospel Quartet history. And,they all made that version of the quartet different but the quality never suffered at all. Glen and George held the reins and let the team do their job themselves.

I never tire of watching this. One of the most powerful songs in gospel music. Sung by one of the best groups in southern gospel. I was privileged to see the Cathedrals perform this song a couple of years before Glenn and George retired. Ernie always talked about how he would form his own group and keep the Cathedrals songs alive. With Glenn’s a George’s blessings of course. I can not help but tear up every time I watch this. Seeing Mrs. Payne’s reaction to seeing her late husband perform his favorite song is just very emotional. Also seeing Dianne Wilkinson’s emotions multiply mine. Dianne wrote this song just for the Cathedrals. I have actually talked to her a couple of times about this video. She has told me how much this concert meant to her and that when Ernie informed her they would be doing a very special version of it, he had to tell her in advance what they were doing. If he hadn’t, she said she would not have been able to sit thru the song. She said she was so emotional and so very touched and moved by what Ernie did for this song. It meant the world to her. Getting to see Glenn and George both sing this powerful and huge song of Jesus’ promise to us was something she said she will never forget and can not thank Ernie enough for this version. As great as the Cathedrals sang this song, this is my absolute favorite version of it. Why? Because it is being presented by two groups who both believe what they sing and they both sing every song to the glory of God and for His praise and honor. One day, and I believe it will be very soon, we shall see Jesus in all of His power and glory, just as He is.

It was amazing. I wasn’t born back in those days but my parents introduced me to these singers from KZbin and tv and God has done a miraculous miracle in these guy’s life when they sang with the cathedrals

During the pandemic I discovered Southern Gospel Music with First Baptist Dallas Church, Bill Gaither and then Ernie Haase and his various lineups and I fell in love with this music. This is one of my favorites. Devin McGlamery was a great replacement for Ryan Seaton. They still had that magic sound. And Glen Payne.....what a glorious voice.
