Making crispy and moist koeksisters - a long overdue South African favourite!

Hi all
We have been wanting to make koeksisters for a long time on the channel and finally decided to get it up this week - just in time for a Mother's Day treat! Koeksisters are a firm favourite here in South Africa, the perfect combination of crispy fried dough and moist syrup soaked inside. Wishing all the moms a Happy Mother's day for Sunday! Hope you all are spoilt!
Ingredients
For the syrup
3 cups of sugar
2 cups water
thumb sized piece of ginger
stick of cinnamon
Koeksister dough
2 cups self raising flour
1/2 tsp salt
4 tbs butter (unsalted)
1 egg
1/2 cup milk
Serve with a nice cup of tea or hot cup of coffee!

This is the traditional flavour that the cook sisters have. The ginger and cinnamon is more an undertone than a strong flavour.
