Thanks for the review. My first Hasselblad. I just unboxed it, first firmware upgrade 2.0 to 3.1, colours awesome, face detect accurate, 38 XCD V lens sitting firm, non of that reported wobble, lens super sharp, image stabilisation awesome, 0.3 sec hand held no problem, … but about 5000, well, looks more like 10000 hot pixels at least 🙈🙈🙈. Will be returned right tomorrow. Honestly, I’m asking myself if they have any kind of quality control in Sweden. Sensors like that NEVER my leave the company built into a camera, only by the trash bin. I never saw a sensor with that many hot pixels. Not 5, 10 or 50. It’s 10k.

I'd call myself a photography lover. But I don't need an expensive camera to love photography. And I don't dream of a Hasselblad. Fact is, most people couldn't tell the difference between a (crop) medium format image, and a full frame image, and an apsc image. It's only about status and money with such cams. Just make the cam expensive enough and YT reviewers will praise its "special look" and the "color rendition sooc"...

@@marcozg77 Funny, I hear people say the same thing about my Ducati, my Porsche, etc. Most people do not appreciate the finer details of quality manufacturing, only the more discerning users appreciate it. Most can't see the difference in image quality, just as most cannot appreciate the difference between 2 buck chuck and finer wines. Most won't admit the differences that they can see or feel simply to validate their own unwillingness to spend the money; it is easier to falsely claim their iPhone captures images just as well, or their 10 year old Civic can outperform my Porsche. Since you apparently fall into those 3 groups, enjoy your inaccurate colors, lack of 3d pop, and your 2 buck chuck wine. But save your foolish comments for your undiscerning friends.

Thanks for your review. I had the Leica M11 and SL2 before I bought the X2D. Wow, once I got the X2D on my hands and took some photos, I decisively sold all my Leica gears, including accessories such as filters. This camera is the best I have used. 3D pops are the key. Skin tones, which other cameras cannot get it even through Lightroom adjustments, are the most accurate. Basically, I don’t need to process too much after shooting. I recommend your readers to try it once, they will surely know what I mean. For me, Leica gears are much more inferior than this one, no matter in image quality, enjoyment and user experience. X2D is a value buy at all. Thanks.

100% agree on all points. I think HB has to step up their marketing. They use all the cheap cheesy lines like "sharp", "bokeh" etc aiming to ppl who cant even afford to buy an iPhone. this superb camera has so much (all of that you already mentioned) it deserves better presentation. I use Leica M10R for streets to get grungy photos. but the HB is superb for clean, natural, airy 3D looking images. Absolutely love it. I use it for landscape mainly. thank you very much
@ericleeker8252 Жыл бұрын
Why would they step up their marketing? The old saying "If you have to ask, you can't afford it" applies to Hasselblad. They aren't going to convince someone to buy it with marketing.
@tjmanou6422 Жыл бұрын
@@ericleeker8252 what I mean is, when one makes a Bentley and uses the marketing approach of the Nissan they miss their audience. Of course it’s an extreme example but to illustrate my view. I have been in HB for 10+ years and they use too many bad photographers, KZbinrs bad prints not properly highlighting the actual strengths and what this machine can accomplish. using words like “it’s sharp” etc just like any homeless KZbinrs do “reviewing” a gear. If youtube charges $5 per video upload all of these bedroom experts who complain about the price would disappear. I think they need to focus on the unique quality that this camera has. Anyway it’s a big topic but hopefully makes sense what I’m saying.

It's a pure luxury camera which most photographers do not really NEED. Most full frame cameras are fare more versatile and most clients will not see a difference in the result. But on the other hand I must confess: If money wouldn't be an issue for me I wouldn't hesitate. To work with such an outstanding instrument can be an almost spiritual experience.

I disagree with you that people cant make diefrence . Hasselblad images are diefrent they got that pop what no other camera can do. I started my camera journey few years back and atm i am using Sony but Hasseblad is my dream camera mostly because of the image quality. It isn't just aname your buying so that luxury is kinda wrong to say .You buy that colour,that quality in images and overall body and lenses. Yes is it expensive? Hell yeah. But if you are focused on portraits,landscape and making money out of it+you can bring that quality to your clients it could be worth it. In last years i am noticed people want more and more to see the artsy style so to say something diefrent on theyr images not that same style what big part of photographers are doing.

Think of it this was… a Mac hard drive back in 1986 sold for $3,000 for 10 MB…. So it’s about timing etc. some people can afford to get certain things etc. doesn’t have to make sense. Great post!

The GFX is a faster camera. The X2D gives me a better file to start with and a more enjoyable user experience. It really comes down to what matters more to your work. For me, the files coming out of the X2D felt noticeably better than the GFX100s and the in-hand experience was nicer (even without the d-pad).

@GajanBalan Жыл бұрын
@@MedicalAppraisals I found that I had a higher hit rate handheld with the X2D. The IBIS performed better and when it said that a face was in focus, it was actually in focus. That being said, I could fire off way more shots in succession with the GFX and end up with a larger absolute of in focus shots, so it really depends on how and what you capture often. Last, the new lenses are just great. I loved the fact I could hit the clutch and go into manual focus with hard stops. I know this may not be for everyone, but it made my experience so much better in challenging light. Hope this helps!

I have both and the GFX100II. I’d also pick the X2D for street and travel. I don’t think the files are better and in general the camera is a bit slower. The GFX cameras have a tri flip screen and better eye detect focus. But the X2D is much smaller in the hand. It feels more agile. It’s an ergonomic masterpiece. The manual focus experience with the V lenses is brilliant. The IBIS is better. The new face detect does work and it has transformed the camera. Hopefully they’ll keep developing this further. I like the X2D enough that it has essentially replaced my M11 for travel photography.

Compare to the GFX 100 II ? If you have to pickup one system to do the same pictures and for your work (only photo of course) which one would you really choose ?
@gordoncahill1170 Жыл бұрын
I have both. X2D for primes and GFX100II for the zooms. I much prefer shooting with the X2D but the Fuji makes more sense with better AFC, zoom lenses and tilty screen and evf. If HB come out with a couple more zooms then I’d drop the Fuji regardless of it being technically superior.
@GajanBalan Жыл бұрын
I’ve made the choice and it’s the X2D. For my work, the final image and user experience are the most important aspects. The X2D really excels here. Thanks for watching ✌🏾

Hey Gajan great video. Since I am sure you have been having a SL3 form Leica in your hands for quite a few days now, I would love to hear your thoughts about the later vs. the X2D for the work you do. I had a SL2 in my hands, not SL3, as well as the X2D, I cannot help but think the image getting out of the X2D is a World beyond in terms of color accuracy and, not sure how to describe it, depth of colour and texture? Maybe the 16bit color coding? Thanks again for the great content.

Great review and lovely images Gajan, I have to say, I would love to buy this camera, but there is a huge problem, for me and I'm sure many other professional photographers ...you can't use Capture One software!!! If like me, you have use more than one camera system, this is an issue and I've been there, I had Hasselblad in the past and was somewhat angered by their reluctance to open the platform to Capture One. Whilst I had my Hasselblad, the UK sales rep proudly informed me I could now use Lightroom ...I tried and really didn't get on with Lightroom. I even compared outputting tifs from raw files in both Capture One and Lightroom, Capture One was so much better. That's when I traded in my Hasselbald for a Phase One, got back into Capture One and was able to seamlessly use my Canon and Fuji cameras and now Sony's all under one roof, I've never looked back. Now many years on and the story is still the same, so my disappointment continues as I like to use other cameras, but trying to be a master of 2 software platforms is just confusing, for me anyway. I make this point to those considering moving to Hasselblad from another brand who are proficient in Capture One and use more than one camera system. In no way is this meant to detract from the wonderful X2D camera and Focus software which I know works for many pros and amateurs alike, as I said, I'd love one!

Very nice video and photos. Could you please tell us if you had to give all these people on the street money in order to take a picture of them because I know in this kind of countries they’re always asking for money if you want to take a picture or what is your strategy? Thanks for an answer.

I’ll revisit this topic in a future post on my foto club but for this trip, I didn’t have to pay anyone for a photo. But I’ve been to some environments where we had nice exchanges and then the subject immediately asks for payment. Each situation is different. Sometimes we’ll offer food instead. Sometimes we have to give a payment because it’s the easiest. For me, I’m trying to avoid payments unless is a staged/editorial type of shot. My hope is that by making myself open and speaking with my subjects at length, it keeps the interaction as genuine as possible.

So, after seeing this phenomenal video over and over so many times. How would you compare this to the LEICA SL3? I’m a Sony shooter but I’ve always wanted to invest in a Medium Format camera to start doing Art and Fine Art Photography with people. What are your thoughts. I truly appreciate your work and reviews since I started following you.

thank you for your review. I had the X1D, the first model. It was a nightmare. It could warm a lot. Realy a lot. I had to replace sensor twice! The service was slow! It took long time to return. How can you spnd such money and have the equipment away so long. In your real exprience, is the X2D reliable? Truely? dos it get hot? thank you

That’s unfortunate, and no I never had any of those issues with the X2D. I used it in wild situations for extended periods and never had any problems. Still using it to this day.

Gajan, brilliant review!! I would love to hear your thoughts on the editing workflow. I tried playing with Phocus with some JPEGs but found it painfully slow. It makes me wonder how it performs with actual Hasselblad raw files. What was your experience like? Did you use Phocus or Lightroom? Did you find a difference in output between the two? I am somewhat mesmerised by the Hasselblad 907x CFV100, especially being able to mount it on the back of a 500CM. The latter combination really wants me to splurge, but one must demonstrate restraint. :) Would love to see your review of the Hasselblad 907x CFV100.

Thanks. I’m forced to used Lightroom for these files but there’s plenty of times where I’ll use Phocus mobile for quick editing on the go. And yes, I’d love to review that 907x in the months to come.

Can you get just one 90mm lens (72mm FF eq.) and comfortably crop 3X to 216mm to use it as a 70-200mm lens?
@GajanBalan Жыл бұрын
I mean, you could. Would have to nail the composition and focus (and you’d lose that compression). But yea, you can use it as a digital zoom and really punch into these files.

Fuji GFX currently outsells all other medium format cameras, and for damn good reasons. Fuji manages to accomplish it at a small fraction of the price of a Hasselblad. Fuji also outsells all other DX format cameras. The only thing which Fuji doesn't outsell is the full frame market, simply because Fuji has never manufactured full frame cameras.

Great review! Funny how people are reacting to the cost of this Medium Format camera. The old Hasselblad was what $47k? I saw a head-to-head with that $47k Hasselblad and the X2D came out on top for 25% OF THE COST. Imagine the new type of work you can jump into!! And the new Phase One is $67k? Does everyone forget that the Nikon D3X circa 2008 was launched at $7999.99!! This is the deal of the century for what this is. And you didn’t even talk about the control of light you can get with a sync speed of 1/4000. I’d say try that on a Sony, but you cannot until the Alpha 9iii ($6,000 and no memory cards + only CF-A) comes out and I’ve already seen head-to-head and the X2D came out ahead by a large margin!!

Gajan your work is fabulous, i’d like to ask Leica sl2-s vs Hasselblad X2D colors let’s put megapixels aside for now what’s your thoughts on that I currently own the m11-P and sl2-s with almost all the sl lenses and some M lenses as well, why go spend 9K and 5k more for the hassy lineup is is much big of a difference here ? If I already have the other 2 systems. Thank you :)
@GajanBalan Жыл бұрын
I don’t think there’s a reason to switch over if you’re gonna put megapixels aside. In a situation like yours, I’d be hard-pressed to tell you to add or switch to an X2D. The reality is that most people that are looking for a camera like this already have a bit of an idea. If your priority is resolution, colour accuracy, and you have the time to stage a shot, the X2D results are sublime.

Can you tell me what battery performance you get out of your X2D please? I am only getting 80 - 120 images on a 100% charged battery. Settings are basically factory settings. I have turned off WiFi and the screen brightness is 50%. Hasselblad are telling me that there is nothing wrong with the camera but surely the batteries should last longer? I have 3 batteries and the performance is the same which suggests it is the camera at fault. I would appreciate your advice. Many thanks.
