@@mikejmcfarlane Are SL cameras reliable? I know the M11 has major freezing up issues. I too do love the streamlined workflow of the SL but couldn't do without the features on my A1 that make it not so streamlined lol.

Amazing that you got the recognition you deserve from Leica. Just cannot believe they haven’t stuck a tally light on this. Especially as it doesn’t transmit over HDMI that it’s recording. From a massive Leica fan this is a huge opportunity missed.

If you can afford a Leica, you can afford high capacity CFx-B. Adding an external SSD takes away from weather and dust resistance. It looks pretty. But its specs matches the S5II.

The SL2-S is my fav camera of all time apart from the autofocus, so I use it alongside the LUMIX S5iiX for video. Maybe I should get rid of both for this camera which seems to be a hybrid of both 🤔

does it do low frame rates with a wide shutter angle? like 12fps at 360degree shutter, or 5fps 360 degree shutter etc?

Shutter angle is adjustable but there currently aren’t options in the menu for 6/12/18 fps, would be nice if they came in a future firmware update

I am a big fan of Leica (owning a Leica CL and the original Leica SL 601), but I don't get why would you buy a new SL3-(S) when it is basically just a rebranded Panasonic S5II(x). The M and Q series fill in a niche and I see a point for the market there.

I’d say the SL3 is a stills/studio camera and the 3S is more hybrid. Where it’s a photo camera than can perform really well in video environments.

Great review and this is a really interesting camera .. What’s the max iso that you would be comfortable shooting video on? I have the sl2 and sl2s for photos and a Sony fx3 for video.. the 12800 iso comes in handy. If this does it better I’m open to going full leica!

How I love the Leica hype (irony may occur), because it's a bit like the Tesla hype, and obviously there are some reviewers (perhaps not you) who always give a slightly better rating because of the name and here also the price. It is gradually becoming difficult for me to take the Leica hype seriously when there are cameras that can do more for less money with much better autofocus, etc., so how about taking us consumers a little more seriously in the future!

Want to celebrate a super-duper cam. Check out the Sony a6000 camera. It also has a 24 apsc mega-pixel sensor and costs 10X less. Besides, the Sony a6000 cam is much lighter and you truly can run faster with it around the race track--if u really want to do sprints. Of course, the Sony a6000 would also be better in a ten k or marathon race, much less stress and weight to lug around. 😎😎

Congrats Gajan, that is a well deserved honour! Was great to see your face around some of the Leica promo photos and video. The Leica OLED viewfinder has been interesting for me. I've preferred optical viewfinders for a long time, hated EVFs. The Fuji X100 hybrid optical viewfinder is ideal for me. I hated the SL3 viewfinder at first, but I started to get used to it, then I used the settings to turn down the viewfinder brightness and contrast, and wow, it was like looking at reality, I was connected to the reality in front of the lens with all the benefits of the digital display. I'm not sure I want to go back to optical now! I think in your pillars, you missed that this is a carefully thought out creative tool. The hardware, the simple menus, the dial and buttons, everything is designed to get out your way and allow you (and your team) to create. A lot of brands fail to do that. I love Nikon and Fuji, great cameras, but their menus suck and are a distraction. Hasselblad gets it right, everything is pared back to the minimum enabling my creativity. That might make for hard marketing messages, but i think it is important.

This Leica SL3-S, you pay a high price for it even though it's just a Lumix S5II with the Leica packaging and two extra options. We know that Leica works with Panasonic and only takes the technology from Lumix bodies, they did it with the SL2-S which was just a Lumix S1 with the Leica packaging. Here it's the same, inside it's a Lumix S5II and they just added the CF Express port and the screen above, otherwise everything else is the same. So paying 2800 euros more than the S5II to have two extra options and the Leica packaging is very expensive.

@@GajanBalan What they changed doesn't cost 3200 euros. A CF Express port instead of a UHSII port, a tilting screen and a body with the Leica finish doesn't cost 3200 euros more. The most famous French website on photo news (Phototrend made this conclusion): "there remains the question of price. With a price approaching 5200 €, the SL3-S is offered nearly 3200 € more expensive than the Panasonic Lumix S5 II, a body from which it borrows a lot of features (if not all)."
