The nerfs were warranted for the Gripen due to how massively overperforming it was back then in flight performance (and maybe now still depending how people still look at it). In my honest opinion it seems fine as is for now, though I prefer that Gaijin would rework the FM from the ground up again, maybe with a little more AoA pull considering the FCS allows you to pull up to 55 degrees of AoA before overridding IRL. Still a capable dogfighter, just have to put some thought instead. As for the rest, while the missile count is low, it can be managed with taking your missile shots more carefully. With the countermeasures, you can be hyper aggressive as long as you stick low or defend properly against Fox 3s if you plan to go that route. Sweden has yet to receive the JAS-39E which will be much better once it releases.

FM wise the gripen flies like an F-16 and has way too much retention imo. owing to the delta design it should pull much more AoA and lose much more speed, but the nerfs have completely glossed over those capabilities. of course no one truly knows for sure, as the gripen is still highly classified. but plenty of assumptions can still be made about its irl performance. an unfortunate but good example is this video kzbin.info/www/bejne/o5zKhJucrbmto9E (timestamp) of the second Gripen crash. even as it falls with the pilot ejected, the flight computer is visibly attempting to save the aircraft, just the altitude was too low. as for what to do with the gripen yes reworking the FM from the ground up again would be good. id say it should adhere to a different type of flight model; as of now gaijin has still yet to model intentionally unstable airframes. hopefully we can see something of the sort when the eurofighter gets added at some point, as the gripen's airframe is of relaxed stability construction

@@finnrissa4594 From what I've seen in terms of AoA, 26-27 degrees seems to be the sweet spot for combat manuevering according to IRL sources. WT wise, the Gripen can only pull 22-23 in mouse aim. maybe 24-25 in full real. I've been flying the J-10 and that plane seems more accurate for a delta canard than how the Gripen is supposed to handle in WT. I'm just hoping for a rework for it though in the end with the FM considering the hilarious amounts of nerfs it received.

I think this would be a great idea but unfortunately War thunder can't add a truly modeled FCS or G-limiter since it would break the game but I think it would be necessary to rework it but it definitely hurts to see my favorite plane getting nerfed especially since its the future of the Swedish line but the E will change the game as a whole so we will see...

Yeah the biggest problem w/ adding unstable flight models means they have to add a FCS and limiter that many modern jets get which would throw the whole balance of dogfighting into disarray but It would be cool to see in the distant future in certain game modes.

@@Squawkk7600 For realistic, the Mouse aim instructor is our “FBW/FCS” as it tries to keep your plane in control and stable the best to its abilities before spinning out. It limits your max pitch angle, accounts for yaw changes, etc. f-16 had an issue with its limiter being a thing meaning it compressed and maneuvered less than it should. For now, until the Gripen gets a proper and mostly accurate FM hopefully, it’s still a fine plane for dogfighting and in the air RB. Just depends what fight you take and how it goes due to the lower TWR of the plane itself.

There is practically not a single point in this entire video where you say something that is near being correct. The Jas-39 still shits on most things in the game in a dogfight. It definitely doesn't lose to a Flanker of all things.

irl, the gripen was intended to be a cheap alternative to the f-16 i suppose for the sake of the game it would be a good idea to make the flight performance competitive, which it already is; the gripen as it stands rn is very competitive in both one and two circle fights; just because the f-16 beats the gripen in the rate fight doesn't make it bad, it still beats everything else, including the j-10 in the rate. irl the gripen's engine was always criminally underpowered until the E variant, so it really shouldnt be as strong as it is right now, but it's a game

i would disagree, I'm by no means the best pilot but in testing almost all American jets (Modern so f-14 and up) all out rate it and then it can be out 1 circled by M2K and in certain cases a Flanker (If done right) but i see its on par and a really good dogfighter and great countermeasures but I feel it could be better yk?

Good video, agree with most things. Only in a 1v1 guns only the gripen does beat everything pretty much. Only that doesnt happen in game does it? so its kinda irrelevant, but just wanted to mention it.

@@Squawkk7600 It's more than a nerf a this point. Me and a friend found out that the MiG-21 SPS-K (the german premium) is an actual real PFM, but the east-germans renamed it. Now compare the soviet PFM and its german counter part, and you'll see that there's a bit of a problem 🙃

Its not the plane its how you use it. - maverick. I would agree with you perhaps if the gripen didnt have more counter measure than i can use in a match making it much easier to evade missiles. It has phenominal maneuverability while payload is smaller it takes 1 missile to get a kill and thats at the minimum all you need. If you get atleast 1 kill per realistic high tier battle your doing good in general add some ground kills into that too and your doing very well probs averaging 7-10k a match. This thing is a better maneuvering f16. I love the gripen and hope it stays relevant thru the next generation i just think its crazy to say a plane isnt usable as other planes have a larger payload and some planes can maneuver better. Air kills has always been about using your brain. If you know you have 0 chance of winning a 1 or 2 circle against a jf-17 or j10 then do what you can to avoid them. I always try to dogfight top tier with teammates around me so potentially someone can get a lock on them while in dogfighting the best i can to buy time to get away or line up a shot for a teammate. Obvi doesnt always work like that but i do think the gripen c is better than the crappy counter measure amount on the f16c in all honesty. Thats like the biggest complaint as i can typically multipath or chaff it off but then im out of cm for the merge or i dont have enough to protect myself post merge. I def agree though its the best sweden has and should be treated as such not another vehicle to nerf in a tree thats making a country a bit to overpowered. Sweden be like overpowered?? But its all i have! As far as modern jets go at least they have some sick old school fighter planes that are unique and maneuver phenomenally
