@@johnnyskywalker1 the best portrayal of the 501st in my opinion is the squad under Commander Chak Fel of the Empire of the Hand, in the book Survivors Quest, by Timothy Zahn. They are tough, no nonsense, killing machines who don't fall after one blast anywhere.....but they are not mindless soldiers following orders either...

We were been sent to an unknown planet in the outer rim on board our star Destroyer that was travelling through hyperspace. I'm a veteran of the clone wars of the 501st, there's not many of us left now. I entered the briefing room, my helmet tucked under my right arm, they were other jango clones in the room, some with helmets on, some not. As the briefing began, we were told that there was some troops on the ground that needed some help from the old 501st... HA! Even after all this time, we're still called upon to help troops out the gutter.... As the briefing came to a close, we all went out to the hanger in our star Destroyer that was about to come out of hyperspace any moment now, troops running around everywhere preparing to board their shuttles, so we got ready to board ours. As we took off and left the hanger, we descended through the planets atmosphere, as we were we took anti air canon fire from the rebels, there was tie fighters and x-wings everywhere. After a rough flight down, we eventually landed at our LZ. Within minutes, we could see dozens of rebels advancing on our position, we of course took them out with ease and moved forward. We could see the guys that needed rescuing to our left, we helped them out with their Rebel problem and cleared the area. After about 5 minutes, we heard a shuttle coming in to land on our position, then I heard the breathing, felt the fear, the anger.... It was him.... It was vader.....
