The only reason The Empire fell was just because it was convenient for the plot. When they made the movies and story-line, the heroes always have to win. In canon The Empire had almost a dozen Executor Class Super Star Destroyers, and over 25,000 normal ISDs. The Rebellion had no chance.

Fun fact everybody(this is from my friend). The rebels(terrorists) blew up the first and second Death Star. So while they were doing that they also killed a lot of innocent people. So the rebels(terrorists) may have killed the same amount of people as the galactic empire(or maybe even more) LONG LIVE THE EMPIRE!!!
