To those complaining, I listen to about 4 true high-quality audiobooks a week. I listen to these because I enjoy a little inspiration for humanity for 30 minutes and a bit of art. I don't read the subtititles. Else, I'd read a book. If complaining, make your own. I'll be happy to listen to it. At least this is available, for free. If you don't like it, don't listen. Don't mock what you can't do. If you can, hopefully, you will make something better.

The complaints I've seen have mostly been critical of the AI mispronouncing words. This should be pointed out as it is an issue that can be fixed. Even if this was a voice actor pointing out the mistakes should still be done to help them improve their craft.

Right I was thinking this is different from most of those ai stories
@jammer682 ай бұрын
@@cameronsylvester8934 Not real different. Just a slightly better prompt. I made it about halfway through then they Humans sent a special forces team in to a key enemy base to gather intelligence and disrupt the enemies activities. The stealth drop ship made it in undetected and the electronics guy (I'm assuming) hacked their systems to allow them to sneak into the control room. out of no where, for no reason, they get detected and attacked. they have to download the information, from the system they hacked from their ship to get what they need. At that point, I decided that, since what they were doing didn't make any since, I quit listening. It was only a fairly decent story to that point anyway. There are much better storie3s on other channels I can listen too so wont waste anymore time on this one.

I like the stories, but the AI reading is a travesty, and not just this channel. A program cannot understand the nuances present in a situation or spoken sentence. Inflection, intensity, intent, all these things are beyond software, as it currently exists, anyway. Better to use AI to modify the voice of a human speaker to enhance the narrative.

Still, he does have a point. It is annoying. It leaves you with a WTF moment each time it happens. It distracts from the story and each little aggravation adds up to a poor overall experience. Aren’t you supposed to test the AI before you choose one to avoid that kind of poor performance? Or are they all like that? In which case they aren’t exactly intelligent, are they? We need better vetting, or send the AI back to school. They have more to learn. If you don’t point out the problems they will never get corrected. And really, going after someone for spelling mistakes? That is grammar school behaviour when he had a perfectly valid point.

I highly was listening to the story, and was enjoying it up to a single point, where all the sudden at one spot in the story it made no sense to me. 15:40 One thing to remember when writing a story about aliens is that they are aliens. Sirens blaring and red lights...that's a human thing. That's human plot. That's what WE as humans are used to. Why would the aliens use the same alarm and light colors as human to denote an intruder? Chimes? War drums? A cacophony of alien monotones? And why red lights? Is this a bipedal response for all species across the universe to make all their alarm lights red? We do have a rainbow spectrum. Maybe yellow, green, maybe blue. Maybe a danger color to other species beyond the red spectrum? The rest of the galaxy is not human, so why would they make technology based on human basis, especially when it comes to security. It's easy for readers to identify, yes, but it's not truly alien. We watched Star Trek conflict episodes for so long, and we have emergency lights on top of Police Cars and Fire Engines, which we identify red for emergency lights. Take this as constructive criticism. The entire species of a galaxy doesn't revolve under, "Well if the technology is good enough for a human to understand in a plot, then it's good enough for the Galactic Empire to make the humans easily understand as well." Instead of Blaring Sirens and Red lights, perhaps a screen that shows a pulsing unique symbol on a monitor. Perhaps a type of smell that emanates from a strange orifice along a fleshy type of wall within an alien colony, that lets the aliens know that intruders are there. The sounds of a wind chime made of crystal and a colorful light pulsating at a certain speed to denote alarm. When creating an alien atmosphere, do not use Humanity as a basis for all the rest of the species across the universe. Well lighted corridors, escalators, an ability to read and understand alien languages on a screen that you never seen before. Hooking up an instant program translation device that understands the alien symbols in a computer, to infect with a virus (worst example is Independence Day). A lot of what we see in movies directly impacts the stories we write, from a human perspective. And it does have some positive and negative impacts. Although in Hollywood, most scripts believe that a big explosion will make you miss all the plot holes in the storyline. "And then we have a big explosion in this scene, and everyone in the audience won't see the glaring hole staring right at them in act 2, scene 15. One of the big plot-holes is the amount of time between when humanity talks about going to war, and all the sudden we're on a secret mission of espionage at an unknown time frame. It feels like a lot of time was skipped. It felt like the writer had an idea at the beginning, but couldn't cover an extended amount of time, because the writer was in a hurry or didn't know how to flesh things out to connect all the dots. Probably needed an extra 15 to 20 minutes to smooth the wrinkles. If you're going to make them alien, make the scene alien as well. If you're going to create a universe, even for a short story, flesh it out. I felt like I went from chapter one, with chapter two missing, and heading into chapter three's ending. And if you are going to seriously sit down and write a story, take whatever time is needed to complete it, in full. Not this, "It's Tuesday, I got to get this out in 2 hours and post it..." That's no longer a story; that's a symptom of you attempting to meet a deadline. It's no longer a story of aliens versus humanity. It's a story of the writer fighting against a deadline with insurmountable timetables! You against the clock! Seconds ticking by like formations of enemy soldiers! Legions of minutes passing by! You get the idea.

You know, there are plenty of capital ship names to choose from, but there are like 3 names keep popping up in HFY stories across KZbin: Resolute, Retribution, and Vengeance. There are many heroic or historical figure names likes John F. Kennedy, Chinggis Khan, Pyotr Velikiy (Peter The Great), Black Prince, etc. Or you can look up for states or provinces likes Texas, Kyoto, Sydney, Kyiv (Kiev), etc. Even expression or poetry could fit which is common among British and Japanese ships.
@deadmeatdec21642 ай бұрын
Probably uses those three names, character names as well, to avoid using names other creators have used. An effort to avoid potential legal issues I would think.
@Rebellion90s2 ай бұрын
@@deadmeatdec2164 You know, there is a lot of people sharing same names IRL, right? And no, I'm not talking about just Vietnamese Nguyen, but about naming from around the world, if you could get sued by using the same character name as some famous writers you never know they existed then the fiction writing career would have been destroyed even before the first computer being an idea. Star Trek for example, the ship USS Enterprise wasn't born from Star Trek, and probably neither the US WWII carrier. Another example is the Russian battlecruiser Pyotr Velikiy, Pyotr is the Slavic translation of Peter, and the person named Peter the Great is a Tsar of Russian Empire, if you could get sued just using the same names appeared historically, Wargaming must be in a lot of trouble right now because World of Warships. It's not just Peter the Great, but there are also many historical figures across the globe likes Frederich der Grosse, Forrest Sherman, Vladimir Lenin, Manfred von Richthofen, Franklin D Roosvelt, etc, and these are just persons alone, there is one ship actually named Soviet Union (Sovetski Soyuz) as well as the famous Japanese ship that used her old country name (Yamato)
@JB-bb4su2 ай бұрын
@@deadmeatdec2164 I can name a book series where all three of those names are ships within the same fleet. They're generic names that avoid any political flare-ups from mentioning the "heroic historical figures" or cities/states you suggested. The nature of politics is that for every person that gets a sense or patriotism or pride in a person or place, another identifies as the symbol of something despised.

@tonynelligan19302 ай бұрын
you misheard or read it. they state it's a supply hub and that it was key for fuel supplies. but they never said they'd blow it up. however they also stated that it would allow them a foothold in the empire. foothold is a term to mean seizing and holding a part of the enemy lands. so stealing data does fit.
