Their ability to miss the point never fails to amaze me. The criticism is not that an Elf cannot do what she does, simply that it is not Galadriels character. Her powers were wisdom, incredible insight and perception to the point of mind reading and foresight, able to read people, making her exceptionally important as a voice and leader. She was able to see through Saurons powerful disguises, and never fully trusted Saruman, seeing his flaws and lust for power, which is why she always preferred the council and friendship of Gandalf. She saw him as the true leader of the Istari wizards which did of course eventually come to be. The issue is that Amazon have utterly failed to see what made Galadriel so interesting, wise and powerful, and instead turned her into some Xena knock off. My sister after watching original LOTR felt connected with Galadriel and believe it or not became a wise woman her self. what is youth to think from watching this ?let us be Egoistical self proclaimed warrior that hates all men ? My sister and me decided not to watch further after we saw the fails of basic understanding of what true powers of a woman are.

What it looks amazing...I glad I didn’t reed the books because now O get to experience this show in an unbiased way. Like I know 100% that if this show was not called lord of the rings everyone of the Tolkien fans would be saying the same thing this scene alone shows the quality of the show. But even if you are Tolkien biased I’m sure you’ll still enjoy the show a lot even if you do t want to admit it.

@@ricardomadleno564 But it's not even the story they're advertising. Sure it might be an enjoyable show, but it isn't the book that they claim to be adapting, which is why we're upset. If they made their own original show, we'd be criticizing the issues with different issues besides the way they're adapting it. I'm sure they could make an enjoyable interesting Tolkien inspired fantasy show, but instead they have to claim to be adapting and "fixing" his work, so we're gonna criticize it no matter how pretty the cgi is.

@@BrasilBorba1 You're thinking of Thangorodrim, the stronghold of Morgoth in the first age. Utumno was written to have been north of the Iron mountains (lands of ever lasting cold), that's north of Eregion. This was built during the awakening of Elves during the time of the stars and around the time of the two lamps. This is where Morgoth took some elves captive to create the race of Orcs. The Valar destroyed Utumno after Morgoth destroyed the 2 lamps. However, some remnants were told to have survived. This area is more towards the east, hence survived the sinking of Beleriand.

Ah, yes, Tolkien NEVER suggested that Galadriel was a warrior, martial leader, or the greatest of all the Eldar. Except, of course, when did: "[Galadriel] was then of Amazon disposition and bound up her hair as a crown when taking part in athletic feats.” "[Galadriel] fought fiercely against Fëanor in defense of her mothers kin." "She looked upon the dwarves also with the eye of a commander, seeing in them the finest warriors to pit against the Orcs." "Galadriel was the greatest of the Noldor, except Fëanor maybe, though she was wiser than he, and her wisdom grew with the long years." "So it came to pass that when the light of Valinor failed, for ever as the Noldor thought, she joined the rebellion against the Valar who commanded them to stay; and once she had set foot upon that road of exile she would not relent, but rejected the last message of the Valar, and came under the Doom of Mandos. Even after the merciless assault upon the Teleri and the rape of their ships, though she fought fiercely against Fëanor in defense of her mother's kin, she did not turn back. Her pride was unwilling to return, a defeated suppliant for pardon; but now she burned with desire to follow Fëanor with her anger to whatever lands he might come, and to thwart him in all ways that she could. Pride still moved her when, at the end of the Elder Days after the final overthrow of Morgoth, she refused the pardon of the Valar for all who had fought against him, and remained in Middle-earth. It was not until two long ages more had passed, when at last all that she had desired in her youth came to her hand, the Ring of Power and the dominion of Middle-earth which she had dreamed, that her wisdom was full grown and she rejected it, and passing the last test departed from Middle-earth for ever."

Magic never make sense scientificly, a scientist friend of mine told me that if a scientist had to describe anything magic with more scientific terms, he could only describe it as "Alteration of reality", meaning that the physical properties that we know and experienced are partially altered in others unknown forms of physical properties (that's how the fu''k combustion properties can comes out of a wooden wand to make fire without burning the wand made of dried wood in Harry Potter lol ). Since he told me that it's easy for me to figured out any magic. Now here's my explanation of that moment in the scene. The enchantment inside the magic stone table with the mark on is initialy off because it was abandonned in a lonely cold, but in presence of people or/and maybe even in presence of a close source of fire (like torches) this alteration of reality (to not say magic) awake itself and the enchantment vaporising water/snow is again functional. But the mark have an other kind of enchantment on and that's why water change into ice just on that mark. So I guess that two different spell were put on that stone table by I guess sauron itself back in the days. You did not expect a response that long for such an unimportant detail did you ??! 😆

Am I annoyed as a Tolkien fan that they have compressed the 2nd age timeline? A bit. Am I not going to watch the show? No. Why? Because there is very little written that Amazon got the rights to for this show. Just the appendices of the LOTR. Who can all the haters blame/thank? The Tolkien Society. We could have gotten a more accurate timeline if they would have released the rights to the Silmarillion and Unfinished Tales but they chose not to. I think the reason could be that the Tolkien Society wanted to see how Amazon would do with this series before/if granting them further access to the legendarium. I see both sides of the argument but I choose to unplug my lore junkie brain and attempt to enjoy this show. It looks amazing so far from what I have seen and I'm choosing not be so hyper critical over literally every single detail the way others in the fandom are reacting. Why gate keep to the extent that we turn casual fans away from possibly investing in the books and becoming new fans of The Professor? What is there to gain by being so toxic? I'm legitimately curious and would like to discuss this with those of you who are still not on board.

I don't know. Did Amazon even try to purchase the rights? Especially after Christopher Tolkien passed away. I don't think so. Apparently they are adamant about doing their own thing, to "reinvent" Tolkien for the modern world, to "write the story Tolkien never wrote".

I doubt if it will turn casual fans to new fans of Tolkien, if it's just another generic fantasy show with Tolkien in name only. Those who like the show will be disappointed because they won't find what the show has in the books, especially those who must feel "represented", just like the readers won't see what Tolkien actually wrote in the show.

Hi @tjbfox769 ! Since you're honestly asking, i'll try give you the reasons, why i hate that show and will dislike every single new clip that amazon releases. Unfortunately, this is not done in one or two sentences, so either cancel now, by TL;DR, or you have to read on, why i don't want and will not see this show. (Sorry if sometimes my words are not choosen 100% correctly or if i got (hopefully not) some typos, i am not a native english speaker.) - Professor John Ronald Reul Tolkien (R.I.P.) Many people say, that the famous sentence: In a hole, in the ground, there lived a Hobbit was the start of Tolkiens work. They say he probably scribbled this sentence down, while he was in the trenches in france during WWI. If you take this as the starting point where this artist started to shape middle earth then you can easily see, that he invested decades (actually until he died) to form this. In his own words, he wanted to create a mythology for his beloved england, because england lost their mythologies. He created geographie, cultures, races, animals, languages, lineages, maps, stories, background information and more and more. So he did create from a literatue point of view a complete world, for the reader to discover - a complete mythology ! That's what it is a mythology. Tolkien was strictly against it to implant politics or modern ideologies into it. (He has been asked once, if the battle at the black gate was a reflection of WWII and he strongly denied this.) It was never his intention or goal to reflect his own or other views that reflect the "real" world into middle earth. -Ardar (and middle earth on it) is a mythology and has nothing to do with the "real" world !!! With this foundation set, the fans worldwide read and love these books since they were released, every bit of information was puzzled together, The world he created is very complex but well defined. Tolkien happily answered very detailed all kind of questions from fans world wide and those letters are all available online for further clarification to his work. what the professors point of view was in regards of making a movie, implementing ideas, changing the lore etc. We can say that Tolkien has set the basics for fantasy novels. Many stories, games and so on where written since Lord of the Rings, but Tolkien is the original. J.R.R. Tolkien and his son Christopher would have never ever sold the IP to Amazon. This is proven in the lettters the professor wrote. - Amazon: Amazon is not interested at all to stay honest to the lore of an owned IP (like all other streaming services nowadays don't as well (Netflix, Disney+, HBO, etc.). Their only interest is profit, shares, stockmarket, quota. (The german word is "Bilanzen"). They've invested (what they loudly proclaimed in all social media channels possible) almost 1 BILLION USD for this show, they use this as an advertisment, as a confirmation/guarant that this show will be great ? Really ? Every single decision in regards of this show is dictated from the upper amazon offices, you can see this in the decisions the "showrunners" have to fullfill, they are just puppets and Lindsey Weber is observing, that the quota is fullfilled. Why does Amazon gives the production of an gigantic IP like this to two unexperienced "Showrunners" like Patrick McKay and J. D. Payne ? Because if the show flops, these two puppets are the first ones that will be scapegoated. If you google the two showrunners, you'll find that they have not much filmmaking experience at all and nothing in their CV shows experience in the fantasy genre, especially not Tolkien... So Amazon hires the best Tolkien scholar these days to support the "showrunners": Tom Shippey (and of course, as usual, announce this loudly throughout the WWW). All fans are happy, because with Tom Shippey on board we could rest asured that Amazon will stay true to the lore. Shortly later (very quietly) amazon informs (maybe it just leaked) the web, that they fired Tom Shippey and replaced him with the Tolkien "expert" Mariana Rios Maldonado. (If you google her, you will find out her background.....summarised (Tolkien and diversity...) The official reason given, why they fired Tom Shippey: he did break the NDA, but what all the fans think and what more and more seems to be true is: Amazon fired Tom Shippey because he could not comply with the changes amazon was planning to do to Tolkiens work in their show. (I personally believe, that they parted in an agreement and amazon probably paid a nice sum to shut him up). OK, so now with the only real Tolkien expert fired from the show, the fans started to worry how this will develop and announced this fear everywhere. Amazon had to react, so what is the latest development, they shout throughout the web: We are working with Simon Tolkien, the grandson of J.R.R. Tolkien together. If you research on SImon Tolkien, you'll find, that he always hated to be in the shadow of his father and grandfather and that he already developed ideas years ago, to change the professors work. Of course his father Christopher denied. No change to the lore. So with Simon Tolkien on amazons side, they can happily change like they want, since Simon Tolkien also just don't care. But it sounds great to the "normies" worldwide: We have Simon Tolkien on board, grandson of J.R.R. Tolkien ! - Now we come to the show itself. Amazons: Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power As soon as the first pictures were released the Tolkien fans worldwide asked : WHAT the f..k IS THIS ! We started to make our complaints, that the information given by amazon obviousely, without any doubt, highly contradicts Tolkiens work: (We're speaking now only about Tolkiens middle earth, not any other fantasy franchise) - there are no dark skinned elves in middle earth - elves have a noble, gracious almost feminin appearance (male and female) - all dwarves (male & female) got beards from the day of birth onwards (Their beards is something the dwarves are very proud of) - how do you explain dark skined dwarves. - why is Galadriel a sword fighting warrior in the timeline amazon wants to present ? (In the 2nd Age Galadriel was already gracious not an butt kicking Xena. - Galadriel and Miriel never ever met These are just some examples and with every new clip, the list is getting longer and longer Amazons counter attack: calling us (the Tolkien fans) racists ! We were fighting for the lore in middle earth, amazon transfers it to the real world. So if you now have a honest look at the cast, you will see a huge diversity presented. Of course the showrunners state, that they've chosen the actors by a look in their eyes "if they had middle earth in it". Strange that by googling the cast and in further interviews we find out that almost none of them knows Tolkiens work. So what is the criteria, the actors were casted by? This becomes even more clear, if you watch the Rings of Power Superfans videos on youtube. At this point the Tolkien fanbase started to react and started to downratio ever video Amazon presents, because every video, every clip, every picture, proved more and more, that Amazon is implementing our real modern ideologies into middle earth. They even loudly announce this and say that this is good. If i am interested in a show and watch an interview i want to see what qualifies a certain actor to portray a certain character in the movie/show and if the cast then asnwers, like they are reading it from a script (amazon upper offices): "I am the first female dwarf shown in a movie", "I love the diversity of the cast", "I am an activist" and so on and so on. I am asking myself Does this qualify you to portrait a character in this story ? - The costumes The costumes just looks generic and cheap, if Amazon really has such a high budget, far higher what Peter Jackson had, i am asking myself, why do PJs costumes and armour look a hundred times better, than the ones from Rings of Power ? The Rings of Power costumes look so generic, that you could easily interchange them with costumes from other fantasy series. Why do the costumes from Peter Jackson look better ? Because he has read the books, took the cultural influence of each race into each design and he invested into artists, like John Howe and Alan Lee (famous Tolkien Artists) that helped to interpret the design into a pictural form. Amazon uses the budget to announce their diverse cast, to invite "influencer" superfans to talk about how great it is to see him represented in Tolkiens work, or how they could "turn" Sauron. This is the reason, why i will not support this show in any way and i will dislike it wherever possible. Or to easily summarize it: What amazon is doing to Tolkiens work, is comparable to if i would buy the Mona Lisa picture and just because i think the lady on that picture doesn't reflect my personal ideology, i just draw a beard onto her face...let's see how many people would scream: Vandalsim ! And that's exactly what it is ! Bt i don't care i could do it, because i own the picture. Tolkiens work is a piece of art same as the Mona Lisa ! That's why i shout vandalsim towards Amazon on every social channel possible. That's why the normies and amazon calls us gatekeepers, trolls, haters, racists. we try to protect what we love.

PS: That's the reason why the Tolkien fans commented under the first Teaser with a quote from J.R.R. Tolkien; "Evil can not create, it only corrupts". If amazon would have named the show "Xenadriel in Amazonian" non of the Tolkien fans would have had a problem with it, but calling it "Lord of the Rings:..." and writing "Based on the works of J.R.R. Tolkien" then they need to face the critizism of the fandom as well !

You know nothing about Tolkien if you think Sauron ever becomes a LITERAL Eye lmao. That's in the PJ movies only. The Eye of Sauron is a concept (his extremely perceptive, terrifying, almost metaphysical gaze), and it's something that he has even during the First Age and the events of the Silmarillion. He has a physical form in LotR. Please stop complaining about a Tolkien show when you obviously know nothing about the man, and when it's obvious you've only seen the movies. Also, here are some quotes about Galadriel: "[Galadriel] was then of Amazon disposition and bound up her hair as a crown when taking part in athletic feats.” "[Galadriel] fought fiercely against Fëanor in defense of her mothers kin." "She looked upon the dwarves also with the eye of a commander, seeing in them the finest warriors to pit against the Orcs." "Galadriel was the greatest of the Noldor, except Fëanor maybe, though she was wiser than he, and her wisdom grew with the long years." "So it came to pass that when the light of Valinor failed, for ever as the Noldor thought, she joined the rebellion against the Valar who commanded them to stay; and once she had set foot upon that road of exile she would not relent, but rejected the last message of the Valar, and came under the Doom of Mandos.

@@brooksboy78 there is a difference between having a horrifying gaze, and us it as your 'trademark'. A lot powerful beings under Melkor would likely have horrifying gazes, that's common among fantasy bad beings. And Galadriel is depicted as a warrior similar to Eowin. I as a reader expect Galadriel to be more like a high level maia or a downscaled Varda. I won't question her ability to fight and command, but it's not a major part of her character in the second age. But if you like the warrior princess depicted so far, that's OK.

There he took up again his great Ring in Barad-dur, and dwelt there, dark and silent, until he wrought himself a new guise, an image of malice and hatred made visible; and the Eye of Sauron the Terrible few could endure.” Please read Tolkien instead of crying over nothing. The entire concept of the Eye of Sauron had been well established thousands of years before LOTR. Furthermore, Sauron LITERALLY DOES use the Eye as his trademark. Not gonna lie, Galadriel being a "hot-headed warrior" actually makes a lot of sense because of the following reaons: A - She was already quite prideful during her time in Valinor B - She only went to Middle Earth to try and thwart Feanor's efforts out of spite C - Most of her kin (and that's including her brother's) were killed off by Morgoth, Finrod being killed by Sauron Point being is that I find it hard to believe that after witnessing your country fall, kin slain and already being arrogant would keep their cool. I just hope that Amazon doesn't over-exaggerate this. I'd speculate that Galadriel's story is one of closure, coming to terms with her loss, and eventually laying aside her pride for the greater good of Middle-Earth and thus becoming the ethereal lady of Lorien we know her to be, after being given her Ring of Power Nenya, she'll perhaps even realise that there's a far greater. If Amazon goes with this it would actually add even more depth to Galadriel's character in both the LOTR films AND books. Where she foretells the power she could wield with the One is almost a fore shadowing of herself reverting back to her arrogant and prideful ways. Yeah I know this is a full read but I just really wanted to put these thoughts out there, again lets hope Amazon goes with this idea.
@drewjohnson8349
@drewjohnson8349 2 жыл бұрын
A - Maybe a bit prideful. B - Not even close. She went to Middle Earth because she wanted to rule her own kingdom, which was an idea put in her head ultimately by Morgoth. C - True. But her strength was never in arms, her strength was in her foresight and wisdom. She was never arrogant, there is absolutely no proof of that in the books whatsoever. A bit prideful, but not to the extent of Feanor or his sons, not by a long shot. Her being hot-headed makes zero sense. She studied with Melian and learned how to rule from her, and Melian was as cool headed as can be.

Elros as a half elf can't have a beard and he has, but a dawrven princess who's supposed to have it, won't. And so on. It never ends. P.S. Its obvious Amazon is trying to push some modern woke feministic agenda onto Tolkien's writings. The earlier seasons of GoT were masterpieces and not because of the visuals but because of the writing, acting etc. The later seasons got more visually stunning but the writing went down the drain which is why the show is pretty much dead and forgotten. Personally, I loved the part when Galadriel stumbled upon the desiccated corpse deep in the tunnels, and began panicking, screaming to her companions in Tolkien's beautiful, classic dialogue: "Hey guys, I think it's CHESTER COPPERPOT! I know it's him, I know it's Chester Copperpot - don't you guys remember,? From the news article in the attic? They say he the last guy to come in looking for the rich stuff - they say he come in, but he never came back out...Oh, GOD! And he was supposed to be an *EXPERT* - then what about US, guys? Huh? How are we supposed to make it out of here?!"

*woman does anything* "what a mary sue." Here is Tolkien himself on young Galadriel: "[Galadriel] was then of Amazon disposition and bound up her hair as a crown when taking part in athletic feats.” "[Galadriel] fought fiercely against Fëanor in defense of her mothers kin." "She looked upon the dwarves also with the eye of a commander, seeing in them the finest warriors to pit against the Orcs." "Galadriel was the greatest of the Noldor, except Fëanor maybe, though she was wiser than he, and her wisdom grew with the long years." "So it came to pass that when the light of Valinor failed, for ever as the Noldor thought, she joined the rebellion against the Valar who commanded them to stay; and once she had set foot upon that road of exile she would not relent, but rejected the last message of the Valar, and came under the Doom of Mandos. It was not until two long ages more had passed, when at last all that she had desired in her youth came to her hand, the Ring of Power and the dominion of Middle-earth which she had dreamed, that her wisdom was full grown and she rejected it, and passing the last test departed from Middle-earth for ever."

worst story telling ever unless you are brain dead and have never read a book. worst acting ever unless you are into Xena on steroids type of woman instead of wisdom, incredible insight and perception to the point of mind reading and foresight, able to read people, making her exceptionally important as a voice and leader. so yeah in short i would say this shows how no matter how much money you put in something if you try to push your ideologies trough the project dont get all stunned when that project fails big time like this one has. on internet it is labeled as the most failed project in past few years in movie industry

People forget that this is an adaptation, based upon a timeline with events and plot points at most. Of course Amazon will have to fill the gaps. Whether they will do a fine job remains to be seen. All this hate reminds me of the insecurities around the LotR trilogy before it was released. Even that one had a lot of contradictions, but it found its audience. Think of all the new Tolkien fans this show will create, people who will discover the written work because of this. Just like my self when I watched the movies for first time. In the end, everyone will watch the show. We're too curious not to. When you do, leave the hate and start fresh. Save your judgement until the end. Who knows, you might be surprised. Will it be as good as the trilogy? Highly unlikely. Will it be absolutely terrible? I doubt it. But I do know that if you go in prejudging something with hate, chances are you will end up hating it no matter what.

@@juaniriarte9484 I did. (1) I wouldn’t judge a scene you haven’t seen in it’s entirety. (2) Galadriel is a character of epic proportions. She becomes the eldest and most powerful living elf in existence for a reason - she is a survivor and protector. She participated in many battles in the books. Elves know how to fight, and this Galadriel, despite being ancient is driven to press against this evil in many different ways. Nothing so far suggests that the Galadriel we are seeing is not Tolkiens.

@@jonathanphelps2104 i was criticizing the marketing, one taeser can be very dramatic, the next one Marvel like, is not cohesive, they have to set a tone, that way you don't have differents expectations of the show depending of what teaser u saw and i don't know about she being the most powerful, you are leaving some elfs out like fingolfin who fought morgoth in a duel and was the only not maiar or valar to hurt him or glorfindel. And yes galadriel was a fighter but i don't like the way they portrait her, they could have made her a Master of the sword who defeat you with 4 moves, i mean shes thousand of years old at this point, instead we have flashy jumps and stunts

@@juaniriarte9484 “she becomes the oldest, most powerful elf in existence” as in she does not die…fingolfin and the rest of the high elves do technically die…that’s all I meant by that. I understand your point, except I don’t really see the difference in the teasers that you are seeing. This show certainly steps in to multiple genres and the trailers reflect that. As far as her technical prowess as a fighter as shown in the trailers, they are each clearly different scenarios and so demand different approaches when it comes to what and how she is fighting. Those complaints though seem (to me) small when we haven’t actually seen the show yet… I’m just choosing to suspend judgment until I see all the footage in context.

They meddled with the powers of the unseen World! A dark and ancient sorcery is here. But to what purpose? COMPANION (aggressive-dismissive) It is forgotten. Whatever happened here was long ago. GALDRIEL (imperious) Water! [pours] (Intense) Time has not swept clean the stone. (Cries out) Behold the mark of he whose hand is ... FLAME!

You guys are leaving zero leeway to do that. All the focus is on the negatives. A lot of people are simply unhappy this project was even started from the ground floor. It never had a chance.
