OMG this is one of the coolest things I have ever seen!! Thanks so much for sharing your creation of the Galasphere. I loved the show as a little guy in the 60's and my little guys love it now. Bit of trivia - I put the name Galasphere forward to the naming contest for geographical features on Pluto, run by the New Horizons spacecraft team. I missed the deadline but put a pleading letter to them, explaining about the Galasphere being manufactured from Plutonite and the shows connection with Pluto.They told me that they would consider it. I also put forward Roberta Leigh's name. Cheers! Made my day!

I loved this series as a child. It was so much more scientific than "Fireball XL5." FXL5 owed more to Biggles than it did to a vision of the future. Thought that when I was 10 and still do. Thanks for bringing the 347 back to me. A real trip down memory lane. Brilliant!

Unlike FXL5 it was actual science fiction, exploring the old 1920s idea of a triplanetary solar system of the three human inhabitable worlds of Earth, Venus and Mars. Even in the 20s writers had figured that although the vast interstellar distances probably precluded human galactic travel, a solar empire could happen. Sometimes I think it might be ready for a remake.

Love this show and I've got the DVD box set. I'm not sure a remake is a good idea, in my opinion it belongs in the time it was made. Favourite episode- robot revolution.

@@sp1midholm I agree. It should not be remade. Too many programmes/films are remade nowadays and I cannot see the point. They are always inferior. It would be in colour, the characters would not be as they should be and the whole atmosphere and magic would be lost. Leave this production in the early 1960s where it belongs. An amazing part of my early childhood and this upload is just brilliant.

In 1962 I was 5, and I thought Space Patrol was fantastic, although everything about it scared me - especially the robot auto pilot (that sinister walk freaked me). Looking back at it now after nearly 60 years (incredible), I like the scientific references, a few of which are quite accurate. Mind you, what the hell is a 'yobba' ray?? If ever I discover a new frequency of electromagnetic radiation, I'll insist on calling it a yobba ray. Thanks for the brilliant representation of the Galasphere, and to whoever brought the programme on to KZbin - I've gone back to my childhood, and I'm bingeing on all the shows!

I have vague memories of it being on but it wasn’t on tv very much. I remember a sweet company called Barratt made Space Patrol Sweet Cigarettes which i errr...liked.

Thanks so much for doing this: like so many others here I used to love the series, and your floorplan makes sense of the interior spaces. It's a shame the series originators didn't do a similar one, as areas like the crew quarters etc. would have made for some good stories. Excellent work.

I remember this TV series even tho i was only 5 years old, even at that age i loved sci-fi , i still can remember that strange music which was all electronic i do believe. The whole concept was well ahead of its time. You done a great job with the up load well done.

I was only seven years old when I watched this but the Neptunians really scared me even with their silly high pitched voices; it was the the fact that the light went dark every time they spoke that spooked me. It was also a shame that every make of alien spaceship had the same engine tone as the Galesphere !!

What's needed now is a model that we can touch and look inside... so, when are you going to make one available? Perhaps with one of those 3D printers??? :) Just a thought :D This was and still is my favourite kids programme of all time and I loved the Galasphere and wanted one so badly, I loved the Venusians also and wanted a puppet, especially of Slim and Marla so thank you for recreating the Galasphere for us all to take a walk around it in virtual form - Magical and brilliant! By the way all the 39 episodes are now available for us to watch on KZbin.

I only discovered this series on KZbin about a week ago. Growing up in the USA in the 1950s and 1960s I had no opportunity to see it then. It seems to be on par with Supercar and other kids SF shows of the day, including confusing galaxies and solar systems, but I can live with that. Always liked cutaways of fictional ships and craft, and this is no exception. Only one question; what is the spinny thing in the cargo bay wall?

All the electronic sounds and music for the show were done by Fred Judd not Roberta Leigh. You couldn't actually buy a synthesiser off the shelf when this was made. Fred Judd used tape manipulation, tape loops and electronic tone generation equipment much of which he had made himself to produce the sounds. He wrote two seminal books on the subject of early electronic music.

Great job! BTW, it's spelled Meeson, not Meson. You can reference Episode 1x21, The Human Fish, where they show an instrument labeled Meeson Power.

+juanstor1 A meson is a subatomic particle. Meeson is someone's surname. So you can argue that Meeson power is named after the guy who invented it. BUT the soundtrack pronounces meson power Mee-Zon. As the s is pronounced like a z, the correct spelling is meson. Some set designer wasn't giving it 100 percent, or maybe he was suffering from double vision.

A bit of a stretch to say that Space Patrol is grounded in science. Perhaps you could explain Yobba rays to me? I'll argue it's Meeson simply on the basis that the spelling exists in the series...

Mesons are hadronic subatomic particles, which would fit into the "internal" science of Space Patrol. "Meson" is what is referred to in the Wiki en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Space_Patrol_(1962_TV_series)

nick Clarke I rewatched several episodes and realised that the three way walkway above the dry ice pit is not a part of the galasphere, it is a decontamination chamber in the launch tower. Also, I had made the whole thing far too big. I reworked a new design half the size that featured every room seen in the show (bridge, freezer, cargo bay, robot corridor) with as little extra as necessary. I think it's better than this one, and I'll put it on KZbin as soon as I get my proper PC out of storage. It can handle video editing.

I used Sketchup, which used to be called Google Sketchup. There is a new version available for free on the web but I use the old version because I'm used to it. It was originally created by Google so that anyone could model local architecture and add it to Google Earth, so it doesn't produce photo real results, but I like it because of that. I use it to create designs, usually spaceships 😊

lugodoc Thanks! I found it and am learning it now. Pretty cool, but surprising that the paid version costs $500! I'll stay with the free one, since I can't afford $500. Have you tried Bryce 3-D. It's very cheap, sometimes free, from DAZ 3-D. Tries to be photo realistic so it has to render images. It's therefore MUCH slower than SketchUp.

Isn't the whole purpose of the circular living area to create artificial (fake) gravity? Because if so, shouldn't the living area have people's heads pointing to the center of the circle, and their feed pointing against the circule ? In another words, shouldn't people be turned 90 degrees counter clockwise?!?

The galasphere was copied from space station designs common through out the fifties. Some were accurately portrayed as spinning to simulate radial gravity, such as George Pal's Conquest Of Space (1955). Most had magical axial artificial gravity. The galaspere is one of the latter.

TARS, CASE, & JuJu If the Galasphere can maintain a constant 1g acceleration, then that would provide artificial gravity without any need to spin the ship. Interestingly, if _any_ space craft actually were able to maintain 1g acceleration for a sustained period, then we'd be able to reach the moon in a few hours, the inner planets in a week, and get to the edge of the solar system in a month or so. It's a thought that excites and exhilarates me!
