Amazing interview. I love the way how Baddie and GVM discuss about each and every details of the particular scene. Filmmaking is beautiful process, if you really put aside the box office and reviews. Because, look at how GVM and Editor Anthony work...the way they plan to convey the scene...I have worked in short films before as editor, that discussion during edits....how to make a scene understandable....the cuts, angles, continuity...thanks baddie for very detailed analysis about character transformation of MUTHU, he chose the GUN, not money....if we watch Venthu Thaninthanthu Kaadhu again, we will know more about why GVM and Jeyamohan did this story, wonderful experimental subject....I know there are already so many stories like this....but lets appreciate and celebrate the making and collaboration of all these talented people.

What an interview! Saw the film yesterday and loved most of it. This elevated that experience for me. Also, GVM is spot-on about the younger crowd enjoying this. I loved the way he let the film breathe and never felt any 'lag', but I did hear from a couple of older folks that they felt sleepy watching it. Each to their own ig, but I loved the film a lot. Definitely top 3 GVM films for me.

It won't be too long before GVM invites BR to vet his scripts and see if the scenes really flow. Blown by the subtle nuances that BR (and possibly his team) brought out, which of course will make a normal movie goer feel useless, but even took GVM by surprise. Every second of every frame has been thought through, whether or not it works, it shows the work behind making it seem as organic as possible

Actually felt that the Lucknow palace bit is unwarranted. Instead, after Muthu left the parotta stall, cut to six years it should have been the barbershop scene. The setup itself tells the story that Simbu never left this vicious web. There he sees Sridharan, smiling at his son as he walks out. Reach home to see his dead son's portrait.

I don’t know why for some people the movie didn’t work out they say that the romantic scenes didn’t work for me the lip sync didn’t work for me or the heroine is too classy she has bright skin but all these things can be justified right even if they are suffering some people have beautiful skin and all but this was one amazing piece of art of cinema that I longed so eagerly for many years to experience in theaters. Man can’t wait to watch this movie again on big screen!!!

Apart from a very few casting decisions like Simbu or Rawther, the rest of the cast didn't work for me at all. The Karji or Kutty Bhai- someone in their stature, you should feel that kinda respect from the first frame. For example, in Yennai Arindhaal, Stunt Silva would have played the charcater Maththew, boss of Victor. Even if it was a role for 10 mins, the impact would be huge. Here, I couldn't get in sync with that Parotta Kadai universe, which was a major issue. And we have so many good actors who speak the dialect so well, like Ilavarasu or MS Baskar. I felt GVM could have tried someone like them.
@mathangikannan9132 жыл бұрын
At some level I think it's on purpose? The scene where Karji goes to meet the actress and is in between a shoot out, he behaves as a scared freaked out kid. Same with Kutty Bhai, when Muthu goes into his home to kill him. He is scared and running for his life, but he kinda taunts him only when he's safe in the toilet with his men, and yet when you look at the scene from the inside of the toilet and there is banging of the door from outside, he's so scared. These people are bullies who are scared at heart. They aren't meant to be scary.
@ani_on_keys2 жыл бұрын
@@mathangikannan913 I can agree on that point, yes. I'm not blaming the characterisation here, I'm just blaming the casting. The actors who did Karji and Kutty Bhai roles, failed to give a compelling performance is what I'm saying.

Still.. I recommend watching " Aaryan" -The scintillating MohanLal starrer of the late 80s, by Priyadarshan ( a big move away from his comfort zones )..The story had all intricacies of a hapless village, educated guy leaving his zone, reaching Bombay, drawn into the crimeworld, trying to escape but " No Way Out "... Somehow this VTK movie by GVM fail to draw any impact in my understanding of a memorable movie... I dont know whether my sensibilities or the present day appreciating levels are different from mine..
@srinisbookreviews27262 жыл бұрын
Not to argue, but when you take all the Tamil movies that has been coming out recently, VTK was a fresh breathe and necessary slowing down imo. And as Baddy said, with art there is only what works for you and others . Personally for me, the love sequence was a speed breaker in a slow movie that was breathing. But, seems like it worked for many people. Same way the movie might or might not work depending on each person.

So BR this is exactly what Director Ranjith was trying to highlight during your interviews with him that how the actual craft is discussed in detail here with GVM, that it is not at all being discussed about ranjith's films.. Even in your interaction, you have hardly brought points about Ranjith's choice of a shot, or how cut thru scenes or how he makes a scene flow etc.. It was always about his political choices in the film. We hope that his craft is also discussed in detail this way.

I like that VKT is not a typical GVM film! I felt it feels like a Vetri-Dhanush movie. I felt ARR bgm was to "high", it is not local like Sana in Vada Chennai. The lip sync song at the heroine house was to classy not local, also the lyrics - so discussion the song is great! I like that the movie is slow and take that time to tell the story, the KGF look that the end was unnecessary! Great to see a GVM movie without voice-over.
