Please don't change, Prem. You are a rare gem in tamil cinema, a true artist with a pure soul and conscience. It's a shame the scenes were deleted. There was discomfort while watching that scene but we could tell it was by design. You made a movie that did what you wanted it to do, your movie made people think. And it's wanted at least a few of them to change, including me. Be proud of what you have made. And continue making movies with your grammar.

As a person born and brought up in Chennai - having grown up with first cousins… I could relate a lot with Aravindswamy’s character… that is exactly me… I have ended up creating a shell around me after my family went through an economic downturn and the way we were treated differently pre and post the change of fortune… while we are comfortable today… I still cannot get over that phase and hence I became the “Arunmozhi” in Meiyazhagan! I'm an SO GLAD I watched this film before those 15mins were edited out. It adds so much depth to Karthi's character. The audience today is used to bland, fast paced narratives that most of us don't seem to get what the filmmaker is trying to say through those issues. I feel it's about empathy. Karthi's character being empathetic to everyone around him (irrespective of whether they are directly related to him) is what makes him so special. My dad who usually hates watching films in theatre these days loved this film. HE couldn't stop talking about his childhood after it. That is what a good film is supposed to do. Meiyazhagan is a BRILLIANT film.

Loved this conversation. BR's questions and his genuine interest in gaining insight into new perspectives and articulating his own feelings sets his interviews apart from all the rest . Premkumar Sir is right. There do exist people who feel a lot for social causes. There was one gentleman - a family friend - unfortunately he is no more - who was one such person. I knew him since I was around 10 yrs old till when I was in my early thirties when he passed away after a road accident. During my evolving teenage years, he was always the calm, creative, socially - conscious person who would bond with everyone - people of all ages in every family that he interacted with . He remained a bachelor till his end and photography was his passion - S.M. Sharif was one person who was universally loved by all those who knew him.

Here’s a refined version of your passage: “Everyone here is asking for more movies like this one (of course, take your time with the writing). I hope these comments encourage him as he works on future films. After all, you’re not an ice cream seller trying to please everyone. The people commenting here are deeply connected to this movie, just like I am. They share the same concern: what if he struggles to find a producer for his upcoming novels? Or worse, what if negative feedback pushes him to alter his original ideas? From the interview, we learned how this movie evolved from a short film, through rejections, to a novel, and finally to the big screen. What a journey-like a mother giving birth, but in this case, it took more than 10 months. We got similar mixed reviews for Anbe Sivam, and yet look how that film is cherished today. We need to preserve this talent. Keep writing, Prem. From a man living in the USA, who spent his childhood on Medical College Road, behind Kumaran Theatre.”

Our family loved this movie. It is like a breath of fresh air in the midst of violence - ridden movies which has become the new normal. The performances of the entire cast is outstanding . The subtle nuances exhibited by Arvind Swamy is amazing. I specially loved the reactions on his face in the wedding hall when Sokku Mama and the cook were pulling Karthi's leg. I loved the references to the social causes in the film . They were woven organically - be it the empathy of Karthi for lives lost in war or political events, Jallikattu or the fact that we can co- exist with all living beings portrayed so beautifully by the characters of Karthi & Arvind Swamy. I also loved the attempt to revive our pride in our Tamil language through the references to the historical events or using Tamil words for the professions of the crew I personally think Premkumar Sir should continue with his courage of conviction to intertwine his strong views with the narrative. It does trigger the dormant humane feelings in us - it is a necessity in the present world where we have become numb & indifferent to so many happenings around us which would otherwise shake us.

Hi Prem Brother, Thank you for this wonderful uncompromised craft and I really felt each and every scenes are very much relatable and its very much needed for this movie. I am father of two children and am in my 40's. I always watch movies with my wife and kids but I deliberately watched this movie alone on second day because I felt this is going to be something else when I watched the trailer itself. Each and every charterers are nailed the best performance and when I explained the movie experience to my wife I was emotional (the same way how I felt when am on screen) and my wife scolded me for not taking to the movie. I promised her and I took her on Monday after I dropped my kids to the school. She is bit emotional too and started wiping the tears so early when Kamal the house said "poi vaa" and set the tone and cried on the marrige scenes and other couple of scenes. Later she said, she was not very much connected to the Ezham,Jallikattu scenes but I said... that's the meyyelaghan's feelings and you have to see from his point of view and thats his nature and you said the same here... Thank you once again Sir. Loved it each and every bit. - Arogya Doss - Mayavarathaan... :) Hi Baradwaj Sir, I am just wondered how deep you see the movies. The doubts, questions, analysis are way way beyond to the common audiences. Thank you for this wonderful interview sir. Been a long time fan of your works.. Thanks again.

Meiyazhagan : A Poetic Journey of Souls -- "Meiyazhagan" unfolds like a beautifully written poem, or a novel brought to life, where each frame feels like a chapter of quiet reflection and deep conversation. At its heart is a delicate exchange between two characters: one, expressive and talkative, the other, introspective and reserved. Their reunion after years of distance feels like a quiet homecoming. There's an undeniable sense of peace and calm that envelops the viewer, with every interaction feeling like a gentle whisper to the soul. It's a cinematic experience that touches deeply, leaving behind a lingering feeling of serenity, like the warmth of a long-lost memory.

This is excellent interview and realistic conversation. Make take away from this interview. and Meiyazhagan movie feels like a meditation, where old souls are drawn to its story and characters. Karthi's performance is amazing, Arvind Swamy plays a relatable character who is detached from life, and Karthi helps him fall in love again. The rest of the cast also shines, making the movie even better The movie has only a few songs, which fit the storyline perfectly, and the background music enhances every moment. The lighting and camera work capture the heart of the story, creating quiet and still moments that show the director's brilliance. Prem Kumar sir you are awesome creator , please , please dont change, give us many such real movie. The peace of song 'Indha Maan' and 'Indha Busthan' are like the cherry on top, taking us back to old memories with their sheer brilliance. I watched in theatre but to see what was trimmed down / cut, sorry to the film team, I saw the pirated version. The scenes elaborating the state of Karthi in first Maattu Pongal after Jallikkattu ban & Karthi pouring his heart out in the dam were little drawn out but still stayed relevant. I think most of the people missed out the emotional aspect of that... the rebel Jallikattu scene in which even the policeman plays "ஏறுதழுவுதல்", the conversation at the dam shows how Karthi is empathising for Eelam Tamils, those who died in Sterlite protest - he is aware of things that happen around him, he is not ignorant (அறிவிலி). Despite knowing all the injustice around him, he retains his innocence (அப்பாவி). Since those scenes are cut, people think Karthi is an innocent villager who lives within the well without exposure to literature & surroundings. I just hope that these scenes are retained in the OTT version.
