To get better audio you have to activate Dolby Atmos. As per the fan noise, I own the laptop and actually never heard the fans since I got it, even while gaming and doing intensive tasks.

@MarksTech Currently, it appears that the laptop is not fully optimized, particularly regarding power plans. Benchmark tests reveal that the Balanced Power plan delivers performance comparable to the Best Performance plan. Additionally, the Balanced Power plan results in significantly less heating of the PC than the Best Performance plan. Have you encountered high temperatures?

Speakers on a laptop are like cameras on a tablet for me: things I would never use. Two months later, the prices are much more interesting, at $899 [14 inch] and $1099 [16 inch]. Four hours of battery life sounds like a problem. Thanks for the review.

I have had the 14-inch one for about a month now? Under normal productivity usage, I'm getting about 11-12 hours of battery life. I think it greatly depends on what you're using it for. It's not as good as my M1 Air, but it's not far off, and certainly better by far than most Windows laptops. He's right on the speakers.....big whiff from Samsung. Trackpad isn't really bad, once you get used to it. Edit - I enabled Dolby Atmos and the speakers improved dramatically. Still not close to MacBook level, but vastly improved, and now better than most windows laptops.

I had the 16 inch book 4 edge and switched it for the 14 inch and for some reason the sound is way better from the speaker set in atmos Dolby with the 14 inch, i mean it was very noticeable. And the brightness is brighter on the 14 inch as well.

I watched KZbin unplugged on my 16" (X1E-80) this morning for about 3 hours and only dropped about 20% battery. This is a huge step up from any Windows laptop that I tried (and returned) before. It took me a minute to get used to Windows after being on Mac's my whole life, but it feels pretty easy now. I really like the machine a lot overall. The S9 ultra (that I traded in for this) had WAY better speakers though. They aren't awful when you get used to their sound. But I agree that they are the worst part of the computer. Not nearly enough to be a deal breaker, though. I've never once had the fans turn on. Not sure why you were having that issue. Pretty sure this will be the first Windows laptop that I actually keep

Concerning the touchpad; you can just double tap to simulate a click. That’s how I use the MacBook trackpad too anyway… the trackpad is very nice and accurate otherwise. Have you also tried turning on Dolby Atmos on the laptop? It doesnt turn the laptop into mac sound quality to the macbook's. but it still does sound better. Your review does seem to come with a ton of bias, the way you expres yourself.

I bought the Surface laptop 7, and this one, to compare them. Both have their pros and cons. The Samsung screen is so much better than de rather low-res Microsoft screen. Not only brightness, colour, and deep blacks (being an OLED screen), but it also has an antireflective coating that's as good as the Macbook Air. But the Samsung touchpad is indeed a letdown, it behaves like a 500 dollar touchpad. I'm sticking with the Samsung, because although the Surface Laptop 7 with similar specs is about the same price here in the EU (just below 1700 euros), there's much more discount on the Samsung (I got it for 1350 euro, at MediaMarkt, plus a Galaxy Tab S9 LTE tablet for free). About fan noise, I only got it once, in the beginning, while it was charging, downloading and installing system updates, and updating apps. After that, never heard them again.

Why does Samsung insist on being so lame in laptops? The Galaxy 4 Edge should be awesome, but instead... Weirdly oversized and non-haptic diving-board touchpad, underpowered in the 14" size, overactive fan despite being on ARM, ONE available USB-C port when plugged in to power, Micro SD reader instead of full-size SD, shitty sound... ffs. How you gonna sell folks on your 'ecosystem' with this trash?

I don't have issues with the speaker and fans but the battery is very weak. I have the machine since 2 days and the maximum battery life I can obtain is only 4-5 hours. Maybe it's a faulty unit and I shold return it and exchange for the Surface Laptop.

The 16inch Book 4 Edge with X Elite 84-100 variant is a much better choice compared to the 14 inch I think that's a better buy and with deals going on right now you can get it for $700 cheaper with a free Galaxy Buds worth $179 in Canada

Where can you get that deal? I pre ordered the 14" and got $200 off and additional 5% off from samsung so it came to just over 1550 CAD with almost 300 CAD discount. I think the value is awesome given how light and the 14" is, even if its not the top chip

What I really don't understand is why the user experience is different. Of course, I have a 16-inch model, so there may be a difference in experience, but in my case, at least the battery guarantees more than 1 hour per 10% charge, and the fan does not work at all until I do heavy work. There certainly seems to be some element that creates a difference in experience.

Good review. Worth watching. A question. Where does Samsung place this Book 4 Edge in its lineup versus the Book4 Ultra, Pro360 and Pro? Is it considered a higher version, lower, what? Thanks. I have been considering the new Dell XPS 16 (I currently use an old 17), but thought I'd consider one of the 16" Book4's, maybe the 16" Book4 Edge, since I'll likely be getting a Samsung Galaxy s24 Ultra soon, and maybe that shared ecosystem might have some advantages.

Tbh if ur gonna test the capabilities and experience of the X-Elite laptops, the Samsung book edge should be the last one you should try. Almost every KZbinr points out the same problems you have about this same laptop especially the fan whining even under less load. You should try the new Microsoft surface laptop or the Lenovo. They are miles better than this.

As someone who has made videos about tech products that have RILED me up, Yeah this product isn't worth it. You gave it every opportunity but when it can't compete with even an ipad or macbook for such a high price, it feels like they messed up the beginning of something that could go on to be a great laptop! That style of trackpad in my opinion is criminal on a laptop of that price!!!

I just returned the PC today to Samsung. For a product at this price (84-100) the PC is unusable with DaVinci Resolve, Luminar Néo certain AI functions cause the PC to crash and you have to force it to shut down. Paying such a price for office use makes no sense. The PC is magnificent and so is the screen, but the total instability makes the experience of this PC more than disappointing. Classic usage works well. 16 GB of RAM is far too little! because as soon as you launch a large software the memory is used at 100%. Office yes, photo video and ai photo functions no!

Samsung is apparently having trouble moving their new Snapdragon line. Samsung and BestBuy currently have the -80 CPU series on sale for $350 off for the 14" and 16" models. That's a huge discount for a system that was just released a few weeks ago! I wanted to try one of these new Qualcomm systems and went with the Microsoft Surface Laptop 7 (the 13.8" variant with the low end Snapdragon Plus CPU). I do not regret my choice. Thus far, the performance, battery life and ergonomics are great and, at $999, it was a much better deal than systems offered by the competitors. It was a close choice between the Microsoft Surface and the Lenovo 7x, but I believe I made the right choice for now. To date, I have zero complaints about the Surface Laptop 7.

How the heck are you getting only 4 hours of battery life? That's just ridiculously dismal. Even with my fairly heavy usage of web browsing (like 30+ tabs on Chrome + some video in background) I can get at least 6-7 hours of battery on my 14" Edge. The fan noise is also virtually inexistant. It's not great when compared to my 15" M2 Air's 11 hours, but only 4 hours would have me sending the laptop straight to the return centers. The 16" version of the Edge should theoretically be even longer since the battery capacity in it is also larger.

I honestly wonder if you just got a bad unit. I went with a base model Surface Pro X Plus. The performance is great for all casual computing, the battery lasts a long time, and the fans never turn on except for benchmarks and other super heavy workloads. I'd love for it to be thinner and lighter, but still ... it's basically the iPad Apple would make if they were as interested in empowering their users as they are in steering revenue to their iPadOS app store.

Sounds very much like when I got the Book 3 Ultra direct from Samsung. I returned it after a few days due to the fans, terrible audio and appalling battery life. I now just stick with my macbook where I have no such problems.

Had this on order, cancelled and got a surface laptop 7. It’s a great machine, glad I swapped. I have the plus variant and easily getting 12 hours battery at 50-70% brightness, heavy office work with some emulated apps. Fans never come on and nice and cool. Haptic trackpad is elite.

The only laptops that come into my house are from Lenovo. Samsung, Acer, Asus, HP, Dell, Toshiba, Sony, disappointed me so many times. I'm also not all that trendy so I really don't care for the design, I just want a laptop that works, does not throttle, and does not cheap out on components depending on what price range it is in. Basically this Galaxy Book4 Edge looks like a $800 laptop not one that is over $1000. Thanks for the look at this laptop.

@@MarksTech I have the Lenovo legion slim 7i from 2023 with the maxed out config. I9 and RTX 4070 ig (forgot actually). Terrible laptop, I hate everything about it. Paid more than 2000€ for that Junk and the battery lasts for like 5 hours (after optimizing the hell out of it) whilest being laggy in every possible situation, even surfing on the browser.

Look at other reviews, I think this guy unit has a problem or outdated firmware. Mine is the best light laptop I ever had, my fans are barely running at all, I get 10+ hours of battery life, my speaker are on par with my previous Surface 13 and XPS 13 (not as good as MacBook tho). And I also much prefer the touchpad physical click on this Samsung compared to the one on MacBook Air m2.

​@@jpf1978 do you limit your brightness to get 10+ hrs ? I think when going full brightness, as the chap said, it's quite possible he got less SoT since OLEDs at max brightness are power hungry. Can you share your settings pls ? Asking since I am probably into buying 14" version. I usually don't run full brightness but ~70%, which usually helps with battery times. On a different channel (I think 'OtherSteve') reviewer gives a hint to use Samsung's quiet mode + Win balanced setting. Thanks.

hmm I don’t think so, personally! Not sure what bias has to do with this since IM the one that WANTED to like it. If your definition of “bias” is me not liking a decade old trackpad design, loud fans while web browsing, and terrible sounding speaker - then I guess I’m biased lol.

When you proclaimed MacBook are better experience, you removed things that MacBook simply don't have for example: touch, OLED screens to say a few. And well, even if you are using MB for the past 15years, it got ARM treatment in 2021, and to this day, you can't connect 2 monitors to a MBA without closing the lid - something even the cheapest laptops can do
