2:11 This song is really just amazing. I have no words. Sega’s music team in the 80’s were able to come up with phenomenal tracks that really leave an impact, and for that I commend them. Galaxy Force is a prime example of S.S.T (Sega Sound Team)’s sheer musicianship and composition genius, with the complex slap bass, soothing leads, and just great drums. This is is up there in my favourite tracks from the game, my most favoured being Take Back. I’m also surprised at how well this song transferred to the home console versions. The Genesis version has an amazing sound font which makes it sound pretty damn good. The Master System version has amazing versions of this, both PSG and FM, though my preference is the FM version. Overall, one of S.S.T’s best and a very memorable song that showcases great composition.

I'm curious what kind of software they used in order to capture live performance but also dissect and compress it into samples as they did. Then again they might be crazy and hand track it all out via computer and a lot of hours crunching data.

I remember walking by this game, the full-hydrauling-tilty-lunar lander version in a boardwalk video arcade as an 8 year old and just being utterly transfixed by the graphics and music.I didn't have the full $1 to play it, but this very song was burned into my mind permanently.

This game is really great on the 3DS. The 3D depth between the flyer, objects and hazards are like candy to the eyes. Sad that most people have problems with the 3DS's 3D function. I always use it in all my games. Anyways, I played this game on the SEGA 3D classics collection. I'd say it's the definitive way of playing the game but hey, that's _my_ opinion.

this is not the genesis version of the song. however the mistake is likely due to the use of the YM2151 sound chip by Yamaha, not at all unlike the YM2612 found in the genesis. notably, the phenomenal percussion and slap bass instrumentation that gives this version its flair is from the SegaPCM, a custom sound chip used by sega on AM2 games like outrun.

@ben owen Keep in mind the sound chip in the arcade board was partially a sampler, more like the SNES sound chip, and so it would be very hard to replicate (as an example) the slap bass in this song for the Genesis's FM synth. Additionally, the FM synth that was also used in the arcade board was more advanced than the Genesis's already.
