The biggest compromise of all that camera hardware is the image processing that Samsung does. Because it is a Korean company, they lean more towards skin brightening/smoothing over sharpness/detail.

When at 4x, the 2 trees image is highlighted, but when switching to 5x or above, the single tree is highlighted, showing that the lens in use is the telephoto. Not to mention that clicking on the single tree takes you to 5x zoom, as seen in some other videos

I enjoy your reviews normally but I thought this review was a bit odd. Not that I'm expecting an amazing feedback for the S20 Ultra but you were pretty hung up on face smoothing for the Camera compared to the fact the Camera is actually much more advanced than the things you mentioned about it in general. I understand the Camera is what most people will be talking about with this phone but the performance on this phone, especially the haptic feedback (which you didn't mention) are amazing compared to any other android phone. This phone is BIG but it has crazy amount of features you didn't even address so i feel for some reason this is kind of a half-hearted review lol. Also after watching other reviews S20 Ultra, you definitely skipped over a bunch of things.

In a lot of places a phone can utilize LTE aggregation (displayed as LTE+), and ultimately you receive faster speeds than midband 5G. However, speed is often irrelevant in the present and at least a few years into the future until data caps are changed to accommodate the faster speeds or removed altogether.

"will". It's rumored. That doesn't mean it will happen. Back in the days it was also rumored that Samsung will release an update so that the Note8 can shot 4K60 but that never happened. zoom, in my opinion, is actually a really important tool in photography. the portrait shots look so much better when zoomed in compared to shots on the primary camera, and that is without using portrait mode.

That's because you can't beat physics. Most people think that optical zoom is lossless but it's not, because of diffraction. The diffraction limit gives you the resolution of the lens, which is independent of the sensor's resolution.

Because all phones work on 60hz so seeing it in 60 fps would make no difference. You would need a 120 fps screen to see the 120 hz refresh rate.

A variable refresh rate is not “nonsense”. It ensures maximum battery performance and Apple has been doing it flawlessly for years since the first iPad Pro. They basically can’t/can’t be bothered to do it.

Can't wait to see a shootout between this and new Sony Xperia 1ii. Love that Sony brought back the audio jack, kept the facing stereo speakers, dual SIM, sdcard and fingerprint scanner in power button. Might be just me but good old fingerprint scanners are still better than under screen or face unlock. The camera fight should be interesting too. We know iPhone, Samsung, Pixel cameras are good but Sony offers some interesting options that I would like to see properly tested. Seems like they offer tons of manual controls for photo and videos typically only found on dedicated cameras. Would also be great to see how that giant 12mp sensor in the Sony compares to the 108mp sensor in the Samsung. Especially in low light. Also wonder how good both will do in slow mo or with fast moving objects that you typically dont really test. lastly from what I have seen it seems like Sony has less bloat than most others and fairly fast Android updates, not as good as OnePlus or Pixels but still better than the rest, it should be a interesting match-up

One thing I'd like to point out to a great review is the comment about the ultra-wide camera. iPhone 11's ultra-wide is the most dissapointing of all phones with ultra-wide. The S20 Ultra actually stepped up a notch in terms of ultra-wide camera quality.

Solid review, but there are ways to get around the camera issue. Instead of shooting with the Samsung software, use Adobe Lightroom and take photos in RAW format. That format preserves EVERY detail caught by the lens, without the combination of pixels. But yeah, don't use the crappy Samsung camera software. The reason why Sony can't get it going is that the tech industry has decided on particular brands to hype up. When Sony or Moto makes a new phone, reviewers are like Oh look, another one. remind me why they're still trying

I don't get why they use lower MP sensor on the ultra-wide camera. That's the one that would be the MOST useful to have extra pixels, so you could "zoom in" after the fact. Hell, put the 108 megapixel sensor on the ultrawide camera, and suddenly it can "zoom in" to 12 megapixels to 9x zoom - more zoom than the actual folded-optics zoom!

I am pretty sure the one plus 8 pro or an Asus rog will be a better deal without any of the gimmicky stuff and much Better pricing ...if you get an exynos instead of a snapdragon in the samsung than it's even more of a no brainier!

Considering how big that main sensor is, it seems like it would have been better to just have a 24-35MP sensor. The low light performance would have been far better and there wouldn’t need to be the processing, or far less, for pixel binning, etc.

Is it just me or are most of the tech reviewers trying to make this phone not seem great on purpose. A lot of the reviewers that I watch regularly just had a different more serious tone when reviewing the s20 lineup.

Jelly Twins101 Samsung has set some very high standards for the S20 Ultra (especially for that price) but the phone (currently) doesn’t meet those high standards. However Samsung did say they will fix most of those issues and make the cameras better with software updates. But If I’m paying 1300 for a phone, you know I want that phone to be close to perfect. Idk about the other s20 line up, I haven’t really seen good reviewers (mrmobile, mkbhd, jerryrigeverything, android authority [maybe],.....) actually reviewing the phones. But I really hope Samsung catches up and fixes most of the problems with the s20 lineup ( sorry for any grammatical mistakes).

The issue is, the average person doesn’t want to have to remember a list of rules and which restrictions apply to which camera mode when taking a photo or video. For example, if you want to take a video you have to remember that image stabilisation is only available in HD and lower resolutions. If you want 4K or (comically) 8K, you cant do that. This phone is a spec beast yet a 2 year old iPhone has 4K image stabilisation (as do some other android phones). My point is, it needs to be simplified massively.

The phone most people will buy / should buy is galaxy s20 and not s20 ultra which is ultra expensive. It’s crazy to see the lack of reviews for the standard galaxy s20.

even if the speed is same as u say ! I read that the snapdragon is better at battery consumption..... Takes less energy ! Also its really a no brainier, why do they have two different chips ? just use the better one ( snapdragon)
