Samsung phones are powerful, you can even connect a 4tb external drive (seagate, WD) using OTG and then transfer files that way. It saves me the hassle of bringing a PC when I travel and take thousands of photos.

Clear and precise video well done .....when you transfer video and pics to the USB....there was still a backup of them deep in root files .....will they still use the same amount of storage if you don't remove backup copies from phone .....sorry if I not explain clearly I am not at all up to date with this stuff cheers...I can only get this phone a 128 memory all the 256 have sold out so I'm bit worried about enough storage

Always easier to do that with android devices. Smooth and effortless. Iphone has couple or few extra steps to look at and little process for it to communicate.

For all those that were worried about no micro sd

It's a hassle without the sd card slot, i travel and take hundreds of GBs of pictures with my fuji xt2 camera. With my note 9 and even A8 star, i can take out the card, insert it into the phone, connect a WD 4tb drive to the phone and then transfer the files from the sd card to the external drive. If you do that without an sd card slot you can only connect one external media at a time, you're doubling your transfer time. And cloud saving isn't a good alternative, it's much faster to physically transfer files vs uploading then downloading them. Flagship phones are supposed to cater to the workflows of professional users.

I'm a medical doctor and I have a 512gb Note 9, I don't only store recreational photos and videos in my device. My last holiday was 40 days and I took 200GB of photos and videos. And I don't want to store them in my phone, I want them transferred to my external drive so that when I got home I could start editing and organizing them using my PC. So excuse me if I don't simply trust you, and nod to your generalization. That's illogical, and demonstrably false. P.S. do you even know the file size of offline wiki/travel guides/books/clinical practice guidelines?

I solved my issue. Before plugging in I had to remove the phone case so the connection could make proper contact. Simple, eventually.

I couldn't transfer without downloading smart switch app. Not sure if that was a default app for Samsung? That I may have deleted before. But when I pressed transfer to usb it started downloading app first.

I want the photos to be available on my computer or another device. This method only seems to work if you are backing up photos that you will open again on the same device or another device on the same samsung account.

Unfortunately it encrypts everything so you can't use the images on the SD unless you transfer it back to your device. Very disappointed
