By far the best tutorial I watched about how to do this. Very helpful, and I was able to get my screen replaced without a hiccup. I was using a hair dryer instead of a heat gun, but I found that it only took a minute or two until the phone was warm enough to begin separating the glass from the LCD. I had no temperature gauge at all, so I would heat the glass until it became just warmer than you can comfortably touch. Couldn't have done it without you JerryRigEverything.

Thanks for a great tutorial. I was able to replace my screen successfully without any issues afterwards. I just want to say that this process CAN be done using a hair dryer however, it will take you double the time if not more because it takes a little longer for the screen to reach 185 degrees. I would recommend just being very slow and patient with during the process because it's VERY easy to mess it up if you are not careful. Since this was my first time, it took me nearly 3 hours but I was taking my time and doing it very carefully. Hope these tips help and good luck :)

Clear and concise. Excellent video. I used a hair dryer and stiff business card. It took longer. Had to be more careful about force. This is because a heat gun like the one in this video puts out much higher heat than a hair dryer.

Thanks JRig - great video! Watched this and your Tips & Tricks video. Called several places around here in South NJ that said there is no way to only replace the glass on the Galaxy S4 & S4 Mini. It would cost around $225 + labor, because they would replace the digitizer with the glass. Phone insurance wanted $125 deductible to replace phone. Looked around and found an S4 Mini glass that came with tool kit/wire/tape for $10.95. With the help of your videos, I just finished my wife's S4 Mini glass replacement and saved at least $115! (Oh yeah, I also wrapped that sucker in an Otterbox Case before she touched it again, cause it did take me about 2 hours - haha) Well worth it though - Thanks!

Good video. Thanks. Saw another video though where no new glue or tape were used to adhere replacement glass. The tech just lined up and pressed the glass into existing adhesive (although he did clean off the goop on the digitizer after removing old glass...I suppose that was adhesive too). Used heat gun afterwards to warm up glue for better hold. Can you recommend or condone that? As an aside, it appeared that the new glass might have had adhesive since it did have a clear plastic sheet on it that needed to be removed before installation.
@JAYRAY0010 жыл бұрын
All the glass panels have a plastic liner, there is no glue on the glass. If there ever was, you would need to put the phone in an autoclave to remove all the bubbles.

I so wish I had seen this video before I tried to do my S4 screen and broke the digitizer.Something which all these videos don't say is, don't lift the screen until it is parted from the digitizer. the digitizer is like a paper sheet, it will bend and it will break if you don't do it correctly. This Video is brilliant. If you follow it to the letter, you will probably be ok. I would now be confident to do it ike this. Thank you Jerry

Hi Jerry, This video is really useful. Makes me understand how the previous owner of an S4 I have has repaired the screen. There's a problem though, it seems like mist appears under the screen without the LOCA Glue? Like a haze? You can't really see it when the screen is on, but you can when the screen is off. Is there any way of stopping this from happening Cheers
@JerryRigEverything9 жыл бұрын
+InvisibleYetVisible Could that mist, be dust specks? That would be from not making a good seal around the edges with the double sided tape. (Or not using LOCA glue.)
@InvisibleYetVisible9 жыл бұрын
JerryRigEverything Hello Jerry, wow thanks for the really prompt reply. Didn't expect you to get back to me so quick. I can assure you, it's not dust. I removed the glass using a heat gun yesterday. Cleaned both the LCD panel and the digitizer. I have a feeling that it's due to not using LOCA Glue, but you're not using LOCA Glue here? Are you not suffering similar problems?
@JerryRigEverything9 жыл бұрын
The only problems I would come in contact with is when the glass layer touches the LCD layer, and makes a 'bubble' that looks almost like moisture. But that only happens when the layers are too close and you can fix it with more tape. And as long as you seal the LCD rim with the tape, you shouldnt get dust either.
@InvisibleYetVisible9 жыл бұрын
JerryRigEverything Yeah it suffers from that as well. So you think that can be sorted with a layer of tape? Currently, it's only adhesive appears to be some very thin lightweight glue. I do wonder if this is contributing to the mist effect though? I'll take a photo and send it you, see what you think.

I cracked the top left corner of my S4. I ordered the glass online and I'm planning to replace it. I'm a little scared about breaking it or doing more damage than is already done. I have spent a few hours looking at videos on replying the glass, but yours was definitely the best. Oh! One question! I have cards and a hair dryer, and the glass that I got came with the tape. I noticed that before you said that the glass could fall off if I use the tape, how likely is that to happen? Like should I just bring the glass. And my phone to a shop and ask for them to fix it? Thanks again
@JerryRigEverything10 жыл бұрын
Kevin OShea A shop is more likely to use LOCA glue, which would make your phone almost brand new again. If you use tape... id recommend keeping a case on your phone that wraps around the edge of the screen to help hold it on. It all depends on how much you want to spend on this project.... And if you want to risk doing the repair yourself. Its a difficult one!
@KevinsGames19910 жыл бұрын
JerryRigEverything how much would a shop normally charge to get the screen changed if I have the glass myself do you think?
