If the glass is particularly shattered, try putting strips of tape across it. While you take it off, it'll stay together better with less tiny glass shards around.

Thank-you for being so well thought out in your videos. I lost count of how many tutorials I watched before attempting my first S4 glass only replacement. I have now successfully completed this repair three times now, and will be replacing the glass on an S5. With the knowledge I have gained from your tutorials, and photos of my finished products, I have been blessed with enough extra income to not be stressed out over the holiday season. I didn't have any spare playing cards around, but I did use an envelope as a wire/card hybrid. Thank-you so much for your how to's as well as your common mistakes video. :-)

I used your instructions on replacing the charger cover for the Galaxy S5. Once you have the part (Ebay) and the smallest screwdriver available (+ or -) it's as easy as you showed it. My entire portion under the screw didn't come off and I was scared of losing the rubber below but it raised up enough to replace the cover. Good instructions. Thanks so much. God Bless

Hi I enjoyed your video, help quite a bit. One good tip is to use packageing tape on the screen just before you start removing the screen. All the small pieces of glass will stick to the packaging tape, I have tried this several times with great success.

Great video! Very specific, clear and concise. I did the glass repair and got an almost perfect result (except by some tiny bubbles in the corner due to lack of enough glue). My phone is working perfectly now and it cost me almost nothing.
@joaovictorcampos93927 жыл бұрын
Some tips if you try this for the first time: If you don't have a heating plate, you can use an upside down clothes iron (on the lowest setting) to gently heat up the glass. More glue is more better. It's easier to clean up the excess than to remove the whole screen from the glass because the glue didn't reach the corners properly. If you dont have any specific UV lights, you can use a standard fluorescent black light bulb and it works just as well.

AMAZING video, clear and precise instructions. Well done Jerry ! Few questions regarding this video: 1. It is mandatory to remove the digitizer from the phone body? is it possible to replace the glass just by heating the front glass and remove it? Of course it is needed and simple to remove the battery + SIM + SD, but why removing the entire digitizer? 2. if I don’t have a UV lamp, is it possible to cure the LOCA by putting the phone in sun light for an hour? 3. will it be better to cover the broken glass with a sticky tape? This way small pieces of glass will be easier to remove. Thanks a lot man !

Finally someone gives me a real temperature (Heat until you can just barely touch it is not proper directions) Now I can just warm up the bed to my 3D printer to around 95-97 C ..... It beats the heck out of using a heatgun. My only complaint is using an IR temp gun doesn't work very well on reflective or glass surfaces. You are actually going to be 10-20C warmer than you are actually reading. I found this out testing glass to print on and then using a good thermocouple Kapton taped to the glass and comparing that with my IR temp gun. The same thing goes for shiny aluminum heatsinks, the IR reading is always going to be a tad low. Not a real big deal but something to be aware of especially around heat sensitive things like AMOLED screens I should make a 'click bait' video "How I used my 3D printer to fix my Samsung S5" ....... Sure it's mostly BS but I bet it would get a ton of hits ...... and a lively comments section

At least I could use my phone before watching this, but now i can use it for NOTHING. Im fucked. I cant get calls. Or texts. Fuck my career I guess. Remind us 20 times of 206 degrees, blah blah, 15 min of watching you slide a card around, but never taking the time to describe actually WHAT FUCKING PARTS you are sliding between. 'just carefully slide it in there' my ass.. I watched this 10 times, and NEVER ONCE do you say to get between the digitizer and the glass, and keep the DIGITIZER LAYER STUCK TO THE LCD LAYER, AND PRY THEM BOTH OF OF THE GLASS. What is the point of a video if you dont explain the things we need to know!?!?!? I could have wrecked my phone without this video, thank you very much. If anyone reading wants to know how to NOT WRECK YOUR FUCKING PHONE, contact me before attempting these instructions

How many ml's are suggested to glue the glass screen back onto the lcd screen? Also FYI for everyone else, I had my Galaxy s5 active cracked pretty bad and used the advice from this video to heat up my phone, with a heat gun, to the point I could only touch for a second and then started pealing off the glass without removing the whole screen from the casing. This worked just as good too and I didnt have to worry about breaking or disconnecting the circuitry to the phone. Cards worked amazing BTW! Thanks for the help. JUST TAKE YOUR TIME, my first phone fix and it took me roughly 3-4 hours to the point where all the glue is rubbed off the phone and ready for the glass to be mounted.
@jasonfredrich73928 жыл бұрын
Yep that's correct, just be careful not to over heat and still remove the other parts, battery etc. Be careful with amount of glue applied at the end too since it's very difficult to clean up if you don't remove your lcd. But mine works perfectly. Good luck!

@cameronscholten75009 жыл бұрын
I don't have a hot plate and the idea of using a heat gun seems too difficult as this is my first time attempting anything like this. This may be a dumb question, but would an oven work or would that not work since it would get the whole phone hot instead of just the screen?
@87TechReviews9 жыл бұрын
Cameron Scholten a hair dryer works also
@JaidenAlemni9 жыл бұрын
An oven will wreck the LCD/Digitizer and other components and a hair dryer will take a very, very long time to heat to 97 celsius. I recommend just going with the heat gun. You can get a cheap one at your local Lowe's/Home Depot for like $30 or so. Same with the temp gun. Just be careful with a heat gun not to set it down on anything flammable and work on a hard, non flammable surface. I usually put a big ceramic tile on my wooden desk.

Sarvesh Vashisht You can but the touch will not work as well, using tape only has a crap result so I would not recommend it. Also if you don't use glue dust will get between the glass and LCD. Glue is the only good method.

Nice work Jerry. You have the soothing voice of a psychoanalyst so I watched the video while lying on a black leather couch. I had a case of the shakes which in itself can be dealt with but it tends to make me "fumbly." I removed my safety cover (duh) to add the cordless charging back and BINGO, dropped the phone 3 x's. First glass broke. 2nd drop, no apparent damage. 3rd, got a white screen with small colored dots and minimal functioning. Darnit. Found a site which told me to remove battery and apply pressure with my thumbs throughout the area where the battery is located. Put it back together an WHAMMO, it worked. Now I will do your repair and check back in. Thank you and good luck!

try this The Cause Who knows exactly what triggers these things but if I had to guess it may be a build up of residual charge in the device or dust that’s causing the issue and either making the screen unresponsive to touch or resulting in a total black out of the screen, read on for the solution. How to fix an Unresponsive display or Black screen Samsung Galaxy? Method 1. 1. Power off the phone and make sure it’s completely powered down. 2. Remove the back cover and remove the battery. 3. Hold down the power button for about 1-2 minutes. 4. Leave the phone for 10 minutes or so, go take a walk or something. 5. After the time has passed power on the phone again and that should be enough to restore things to normal including touch or remove the black screen issue completely.

Hi, I’ve used various loca glues and i have had trouble with a few. I wanted to seek advice on which ones are the best and what type do you use. TP-1000: this type of loca goes on easy and comes of easy when a customer returns for another repair when their glass cracks again or if you mess up and want to remove the glass again. However, when this loca leaks through the LCD, it would cause the digitizer touch function to become unresponsive. TP-2500F: this one also goes on easy and comes off just as easy. However, this one tends to start lifting in a few days on some phones and I would have to do the job all over again. TP-1000N: i just got this loca glue a few days ago and it works great when you put it on so far. It goes on easy and dries up hard. I haven’t needed to remove a screen after applying this glue yet but because of it’s hardness and tackiness when removing excess glue off of the sides, it feels like this is a glue that you would need to cut with a wire and a hotplate machine to redo the next repair and attempting to use a playing card will break the LCD. Can you please advise whether the tp1000n is easy to remove with a playing card or am I correct in my assumptions? Also, what brand and type of loca glue do you prefer to use that won’t damage LCDs nor lift or recede, as well as be easy enough to re-repair a broken glass on. What are your thoughts or experience with APS346 and xfactor glue? Thank you in advance

Hi there, On your video with the S3 you used sticky tape to put the screen down. Could you do the same for this phone or do you actually need to use the glue?

Nice job on the video! Thank you! 2 questions... Are you making money doing screen replacements? Also, what type of hot plate is that? I can't find one online

Hey Jerry. I’m looking at a replacement part that includes the home button. I know with the Apple products you must use the original one does that apply for the SM-G900a?

Very thorough video. I think I feel confident enough to try. Can you link to purchase the tools (tweezers and pry tools) that you are using?

+Manuela Melton ok, nevermind. I see the link above. :-/

+Manuela Melton was your repair successful?
@ManuelaMelton8 жыл бұрын
+Gurjot Bajwa no, it wouldn't turn on after I removed the glass. I think I damaged the cables with the playing cards. But I know I if I had to do it again, I know exactly what not to do!

Hi Jerry. Great video. One question - does this repair maintain the waterproof seal of the phone?
@JerryRigEverything9 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't trust it.

What do you think about placing a piece of clear packaging tape on the outside of the screen to "collect" and retain the shards, similar to vinyl transfer lettering? Also, my kit didn't come with glue; just what looks to be a full size sheet of plastic with adhesive on both sides. THANKS SO MUCH FOR THIS GREAT VIDEO. Andrew

Is there a difference in quality of the replacement glass only? Buying a sapphire one would be nice.

@13.07 when I was applying the glue I messed up and didn't get the glue to the edge and had to much on one side and not enough on the other. In my X pattern of glue I put to much on the bottom right and bottom and not enough on the top left, so I had some air bubbles sadly and it seemed over a ton on other sides and not enough on one. So spread your glue evenly and slowly!! Otherwise, I had TOTAL success. I spent HOURS doing this very slowly watching multiple videos, this one was my go to though because of how detailed the author of the video was. Also, he has a video on what NOT to do! So f' helpful to watch the common mistakes, it's insanely kind of him to ruin a few LCD screens just to teach us what not to do! Best video out there for this. I spent hours doing this, but with this video and the confidence it gave me I could do this in maybe 90 mins or less now. I will do this again but next time apply the glue better and I'll use this video again in a week or so to fix my air bubbles.

You're right this is the BEST one i've seen so far. Think I'll try this on my friends S5 Active. Could you put a link to your hot plate in the info below, or a good choice thanks. Keith

Nice video.I "inherited" a GS5 with a cracked screen fom my daughter. I bought replacement glass only, with loca. When I tried to remove the glass/lcd combo, only the glass came off. Apparently the guy at the mall who previously repaired the phone did not use any loca, just adhesive around the edges tof hold the glass. This probably explains why my daughter said the touchscreen was not as sensitive after that "repair." What do I do now? Do I need to remove the lcd, or can I just glue the new glass to the lcd while it is still in the phone? I am concerned that the buttons will get glued, but I would rather not pull the lcd if I don't need to.Thanks!

Hi Jerry, I have 2 questions 1. Since you have a heating plate why didn't you separate the glass using the plate and metallic wire? Is there any reasons for this to not be able to be done on this phone? 2. When I used LOCA on iPhone screens I always had the problem that the LOCA glue runs into the backlight. Does the S5 screen have this same problem? Thanks!

Have you ever used the wire that comes in some of the kits? I used it on a Note 3 and wanted to know if it would work on this as well.

Thanks for the instructional. May need this in the future. Could you use the residual glue around the edges to glue it back instead of the double sided tape? Would imagine you would need to be pretty fast and hit it with the UV light after reassembling. Not that it would still be IP67 rated but may be able to keep its water resistance.

HIYA great video, when you have taken the full screen from the phone body does that just leave the 2 screens one glass and one LCD? if so and you are already using heat, would it be possible to separate the screens while submersed under hot water at the correct temp?, that way with the glue in a liquid state the screens should more or less slide apart? or does it contain some electrical components that water would destroy? but from experience of reconditioning machines that have 3 phase 420v and all volts reduced from the mains supply with all the wiring, controls and circuitry for it all, obviously, while they have no power connected , i have jet washed these insides and out, cleaned, stripped, serviced, recondition, and rebuilt them, installed, connected them and never had any water-related issues, apart from water getting into the motors, even then could be dried out by over-riding trip-switches or breakers, so without any power to the screen and dried out before replacing, can you tell me any reason not to do it in hot water? thanks for your knowledge and great video
