The M8 is continuing to impress me, much more so than the S5 in almost every aspect. As a nearly die-hard S3 user at the moment, I might be making the jump to the M8 when I renew my contract this year. I'm also keeping my eye on the Oppo Find 7, however.. S5 just simply isn't cutting it for me. I was underwhelmed when it was revealed, I've been underwhelmed in all the testing I've seen thus far, and even the general look and feel of the phone has less than excited me. Having not used it first hand, I won't make any judgements juuuust yet, but the M8 seems great.

Look at the screen real estate. The galaxy s5 using its whole display. All it takes is an update and Sammy will smash everyone. HTC should have used touch capacitive buttons instead of onscreen.

That is very true and you're right, not everyone understands all the tech side of smartphones but I think retailers and there workers should do a better job of explaining whats the bad and the good, most retailers nowadays just say it's the best phone on the market and the consumer ends up believing anything they're told.

I was anti android all my life. Switched from the blackberry z10 to the lumia 1020 to the iphone 5s. Hated all of them for certain specific reasons (battery on each, z10 horrible interface, lumia overheating and basically a camera phone). Got the m7 and was very very satisfied. I was amazed this month because some htc supplier took 70% off the m8 if i were to trade in my m7. The m8 is by far the best phone for 2014. Apple need to do so much better with their iphone6 or whatever they're calling it in order to keep up with this phone.

I've never had problems with the battery on the iPhone 5S. To me the two smoothest phones have been the 5S and Nexus 5. The HTC One M8 is the best phone that's been released in 2014 for now.
@x7xDarkPlayerx7x10 жыл бұрын
JSantana319 Come on be reasonable. If you have 4g on. Watch a couple of videos. Have a messaging service (Whatsapp,bbm, skype etc) basically always on.. the battery is bad. 1500 battery is pretty low. The iPhone I had lasted me about 7-9 hours with the usage I stated. The Lumia lasted a horrible 5-7 hours (Maybe I had a buggy device). The New HTC M8 does 10% every 3-4 hours (I can send you screen shots of the usage on my phone if you'd like).
@JSantana31910 жыл бұрын
Dark Player I don't use the iPhone for watching videos. I use the iPhone mainly for text messages, phone calls, social media, listening to music, and Facetime. I believe that you're getting great battery life with the M8. I never said the M8 wasn't the best, I said the M8 is the best for now because there are other devices that are gonna be released. Don't forget the powerful Samsung Galaxy Note 4, which will destroy the rest of the competition like the Note 3 did when it launched except the iPhone 5S and the next iPhone, LOL!!

Manveer Ghuman just watch carefully when they switch from app to app in the multitasking tab, the respond time is just slower than what expected, not like the One M8, it open up the app you tap on right away.

This is why I sorta hate samsung, like no matter how fast they make their phones they're always gonna be a tad slow or laggy.. But now I'm starting to see other phones being slow and laggy too, I mean if you have the newest processor, clocked at a high speed, you should have no problem launching apps fast..
@heroguides970510 жыл бұрын
you can have all the specs you want but their problem is always a lack of optimization on OS and their own skins they are very heavy which is why they need double to 3 times the power (2-3ghz) as say an iphone(1ghz)
@yqr535710 жыл бұрын
Something Samsung refuses to accept, optimization. They just keep mindlessly increasing their hardware specification to make their specs sheet looks good without much improvements in real life scenarios. And even the measly, pathetic hardware on the iPhone can beat the S5 in certain aspects.
@gokuafrica10 жыл бұрын
Fully agree, 5s won against note 3, s5 and Lg G2 in speed test!! Only m8 could beat it, it was expected that m8 will easily beat s5
@darkangelss6sic610 жыл бұрын
Something jealous troller refuse to accept. Reality. Touchwiz not optimized? That's the same as saying Android is not optimized in comparison to IOS. Comparing something very featured to something way less featured. And then saying that the extremely featured one sucks and is not optimized because the one lacking has a couple second speed advantage....Wow....Where do you people get this kind of logic??????? And the 5s has a speed advantage against Sony and HTC too. So does that mean that they all have crappy unoptimized UI too? It's because not only is IOS completely and utterly lacking in up to date features and physical hardware technology...It's horrifically on top of mountains of restrictions. Complete system wide lock down. And even though it's only a dual core it's still Cortex 53 64bit. And even the the 64 bit was improperly utilized it brings some advantage. So you add up all that and it only has a tiny speed advantage....And crashes more than any system.
@darkangelss6sic610 жыл бұрын
Anwesh Mohapatra M8 only wins by a few second. And that's because of having nothing to show for it in options, features, and functions. So a much better device all around with many more options and features to cater to a much larger group of people seems to be an overall win more so than...Look my lacking makes me a couple seconds faster. But here on the internet people would rather hate and bash rather than use logical thought.
@Syoiepro10 жыл бұрын
darkangelss6sic6 jeez man, im reading from top to here, and u reply to every single comments bashing samsung s5. What the hell man, im a htc m8 owner, and sense is more capable than doing everything s5 can do. except for all that unused sensors which..makes it lag. So HTC won, deal with it. Were faster, its samsung's fault for not make it cleaner. DEAL WITH IT!
@darkangelss6sic610 жыл бұрын
Meam Tuan Hassan You claim you read my comments. But make this reply which contradicts that theory. Move on to tell me to deal with "you winning". Which means you did not read them or you lack the ability to understand them...And you act like you are trying to pass me off as being a sore loser.... When I'm just replying to people who are lying and bashing. And only to correct them with logical fact and without bashing in return....And here you are bashing...What does that tell you? Added into it as well you further exaggeration of lag and YELLING AT ME TO DEAL WITH IT....The reason you replied to me is because you are an HTC fanboy. And you think I'm just a Samsung fan and you have a superiority complex right now.... Sense is not capable of what Touchwiz is because the coding is not written into it. It could be if HTC made it that way, but they didn't so it's not. And Over 2 minutes you call a couple second speed advantage for a less capable UI a huge win? And that I need to deal with it???? Seriously? LOL. Where is the logic in this society?????? Plus I NEVER DENIED IT! As well I even replied to some people who claimed that this was a biased review to point out that it was not biased and gave a factual representation. Now what fanboy? My point was that all you jealous fanboys are parading around like royalty over this and acting like it means anything more than what it simply means... Sense does less and is a little lighter for that. So it runs a couple seconds faster...Plain and simple. End of story. However what all the haters and yourself included are doing is illogical ranting, bashing, and gloating. Let's see if you read that. And lets see if you try to deny that.

This is no surprise what so ever. Touch wiz is still heavy as all hell. After owning the m8 for 2 weeks I went in to see how the s5 performed and I immediately felt bogged down and slow compared to the the extremely snappy m8. I have yet to notice any sort of stutter on this thing. Gallery loads pics insanely fast with smooth scrolling and even little things like the message app and phone dialer loads with zero delay. Even on my note 3 with root and hyper drive rom it takes a second to actually load the dialer.

Ok. That's one slightly better aspect of the M8. The S5 is still overall a much better, durable, practical device with more monies worth. In the end what this shows is that because HTC offers so many fewer functions and features it can gain a couple seconds of speed. The S5 is still very fast and can do many things with ease.
@sarfaraz.hosseini10 жыл бұрын
Many of the extra features in the S5 are of questionable use adding to a slightly less fluid sometimes confusing OS which apparently occasionally still stutters and lags. I'm really struggling to choose between them and need a new phone!
@darkangelss6sic610 жыл бұрын
Sarfaraz Hussein I think the internet has lead to that disbelief. The same that supposedly certain devices or OS's do not lag or that others doe excessively. Some features are not for everyone. Some everyone might love. But the point is that they are there and offered. You have the choice to use all or none. You don't get that choice with anyone else. I think overall the UI is fairly easy to navigate. Just takes time for some people to adjust and learn all the features. If it's confusing to someone then all OS set ups are generally going to be a little confusing. It does have an easy mode however. So you are thinking between one of these then? I would honestly say out of the three main choices that people seem to be going for S5 first. Z2 second. M8 third. While all have their pros and cons and everyone will prefer one over the other... If you put all those preferences aside the S5 has a few more advantages over the other two. The S5 has the world's best mobile display. Has the better camera of all three here, but only 2 or 3 total are better. The 1020, 8o8, and possibly Galaxy Zoom. It has the slimmest, most durable design, best battery life, and removable battery while also being water proof. Some people might like aluminum or glass better, but the plastic takes drops and scratches better. And is easier to repair/replace. It is more comfortable for prolonged use with it's thinner and more ergonomic build plus how much nice the soft touch back feels to the hand. Plus the S5 has more features and functions. As well as has a much better update track record. Few main reasons why The S5 is overall better. Though it may not be everyone's preference still.
@robertsivonjic508010 жыл бұрын
darkangelss6sic6 In my opinion the S5 is for people that go in the fitness often because of the heart rate sensor and has alot of those workout features to keep track on what youre doing. I personally am going for the M8 because of the speakers design and specs. The camera doesnt bother me because i have seen what kind of pictures it takes and it isnt even that bad as everyone says. I am actually deciding between Z2 and the M8.
@darkangelss6sic610 жыл бұрын
Robert Sivonjic Speakers, some people liking metal, and being a tad faster out of box is the most of it's advantages. But everyone has their preferences. No the camera is not that bad. Though fairly far behind Z2 and S5. I have to defend the tech to trolls all the time. I think the Z2 has a slight edge over the M8 too. In the end they are all awesome. Just as far as technology the S5 has the overall edge.

I THINK THIS TEST IS IRRELEVANT! (Answer at the bottom) Just stop-watched everything from press of button until exit. This possibly eliminates any unfair waiting time in between loading apps and those are actual measured launch to close times. Note: I'm a Samsung Galaxy Note 3 user so you might think I'm biased towards Sammy but that isn't true. I'm not saying I have a nuclear turbo mega fingers which are 100% accurate so the results might be off by up to 0.35s. Opening Camera: S5: 2.6 s M8: 2.5 s Gallery to opening and closing settings: S5: 4.7 s M8: 4.55 s Temple run: S5: 8.5 s M8: 6.9 s Boxing game: S5: 15.75 s M8: 14.3 s Vector: S5: 11.4 s M8: 11.38 s Angry Birds: S5: 8.9 s M8: 9 s Converting launch to exit: S5: 14.31 s M8: 14.72 s Photoshop Touch: S5: 7.1 s M8: 6.9 s Dictionary: S5: 5.4 s M8: 6.35 s Netflix: S5: 11.2 s M8: 8.5 s S thingy news: S5: 10.74 s M8: 10.43 s Chrome: S5: 24.11 s M8: 22.92 s Galaxy S5: 124.71 s (2:04.710) HTC One M8: 118.45 s (1:58.450) YES! One M8 is faster, however, there are some apps in which S5 edges out the M8. (Angry birds, Converting, Dictionary) **IMPORTANT!** In the end every phone will have better load times of some apps so actually you could look for apps that load faster on the S5 and use them in the test which would result in the S5 winning and VICE VERSA! Overall HTC is a bit faster and snappier but I'm trying to make a statement here about these types of tests as I'm sick and tired of people quarreling.

On a phone that powerful, and in this day and age, the S5 should NOT have a slower home button for any reason. It should be equally fast with and without those extra features turned on.

From experience using an S3 and S4 extensively, and from playing around with the S5 in shops, Samsung home buttons/wake functions are slow with or without the double tap feature, compared to HTC, Sony and Huawei phones. There's a lag accessing Samsung app drawers and in waking the screen to unlock. iPhones have a double tap feature, but their home buttons are far quicker (disclaimer, I really don't get iPhones and their interfaces - it's just not for me - but I do appreciate how optimised it all is, especially compared to Samsung.

I have a Samsung galaxy s5 and I can confirm for you that the home button is faster than the HTC one m8 my brother has the m8 and we spent a few hours together comparing the two I myself had an s2 and a s4 before this one and I will give it to you they where not the quickest in that category but samsung has perfected it's home button

I think animations and S voice is what was holding the GS5 back. Turning off S voice would have definitely helped during the closing of apps. And Samsung has longer animations while switching between apps. iOS 7 had the same problem and when 7.1 came out everything felt much smoother and faster.

I've always liked these speed tests because they seem the most realistic. Both phones are definite powerhouses, but I have a feeling that the lighter Sense 6 skin contributed to the speed of the M8 over the speed of the S5. Regardless of the improvements Samsung has done to Touchwiz it still seems pretty heavy and it goes to show that slightly higher specs doesn't mean everything.

One thing I recognized is that the animation mode (developer option) in GS 5 is 1x, while it's 0 in HTC One M8. I'm sure it made a big difference in speed. One thing I like and don't like in the M8 is the on-screen button. It's much easier to switch to home screen, but it takes a big space also. A slight lag with the physical home button in GS5 is visible though.

P90Jungle So anything you say you don't need because the phone you prefer more does not offer them is a gimmick????? Logical thought really is not your strong suite is it? The problem here is that many trolls and fanboys are going to take this way too far and ignore all other facts and the pieces that play into these results. While HTC will be a couple seconds faster the S5 is an overall much better device with many more superior technologies.

A rather comprehensive beating I would say. This type of testing, I feel, is more representative of real world usage rather than the benchmark testing seen elsewhere. Since release the S5 has taken a bit of a battering with the lag issue rating it's ugly head. For those on the fence with no brand loyalty, this test could be the decider you needed.

Hello, i went to a store last night, and i compare both of them, my impression was than the GS5 screen is incredible and no have comparison with M8, the speed was better on htc but i get some lags to, so is not perfect. the camera on M8 was better in the store, with the GS5 i cant take a good pic in low light. i use the finger print lock on GS5 and works great, and the heart sensor works ok to. the camera on GS5 is better for more light photos. so my impression is, when you have both of them in your hands you prefer GS5 just for the incredible screen. i have to say i love HTC to

Comparing the demo models is a horrible way to do it. Carriers through their demos and crap on them causing the phones to bog down and become unresponsive in some cases do to the demo videos always trying to pop up. I own both and the HTC m8 is faster all around. Not to say the s5 is slow but compared to the m8 it's software feels extremely heavy. Not to mention in tests the m8 holds the fastest touch response time compared to any other phone

This has only confirmed what my friends and I have noticed. Two of them have a S5, another has a g2, and I have an m8. All of them after using my phone always state that mines is noticeably faster, especially at closing apps. I'm guessing it's the UI. It's just very snappy on the m8. Everything feels instantaneous, even compared to other premium phones.

Love my HTC One. I will also be getting the M8 because I've been super happy with my HTC One first gen. People buy Galaxy S5 just for the hype, but in reality, the HTC One is the superior phone here except the camera which I admit is better in the GS5, but not as great as the Iphone 5S even with the extra mega pixels. The test results are off the S Voice double tap home feature is on so when tapping the home button once there is a delay for the phone to make sure if or if not you want to launch S Voice, so change that setting then I will be more impressed with which ever phone wins then.
@charlesverg218410 жыл бұрын
Ok, first of all, did you have s voice homebutton double press disabled? That makes the phone slower because it waits a little so you can double press the homebutton if you wanna use the s voice. Also, the animations and transitions are slower in the s5 to prevent dizziness for some users, but you can make them twice or 4 times as fast by enabling the developer's options (go to phone info, tap version repeatedly until it tells you to stop, go to developer's options, go to the animations, change x1 to x0.5 or no animations.

Even though many have suggested in your Galaxy s5 vs iPhone5s video that the chrome app is 2 times slower than the stock browser in the galaxy phones, you still use it here lol. In addition, the galaxy is kind bad in game apps and here you add more games than the previous test lol. I would like to see a fair speed test in the browser side and more apps like Instagram, Twitter or Facebook :/. Use stock browser in both though ;)
@sicdedworm0910 жыл бұрын
Chrome is stock on the m8 and the stock browser for Samsung would probably hurt it even more than work in its favor. Chrome has become faster over the last month or 2. The stock browser for Samsung hangs and takes forever to load pages, especially full sites
@Escorpio123PS10 жыл бұрын
sicdedworm09 actually that's what I thought before but go try Googledotcom on both and you'll notice the difference that I'm talking about. Try other websites and my loads faster in the stock browser. There's even a video here on KZbin where it shows that. I can link it if you insist so you can see it. :)
@sicdedworm0910 жыл бұрын
i believe you, no need for links :). maybe i havent played with the stock browser for the s5 enough then. i kinda gave up on it after it would take forever to reload a page when i would try going back a page on my note 3. also swiftkey doesnt play nice with it at all so there's another reason why i walked away from it for awhile haha.

As this is fair from a stock perspective on each phone, don't you think you should have lowered the transition speed on the S5? Also, did you disable the double tap home button for S Voice? That makes a huge difference. Touchwiz has naturally slower animations, and it's really just aesthetics and not the hardware. I hate Touchwiz as much as the next guy, but still.... And also, shouldn't you use a third-party clock app to make it even for the two given that one might use more resources than the other?
@BOOTxClan10 жыл бұрын
No, I don't believe they were. My point was that Touchwiz naturally has slower animations, and the outcome of this video may have been different had he raised the animation speed, which almost anyone could do. This test was a determination of quicker hardware or even OS, but simply whose animation speed was quicker.
