Galaxy S5 vs LG G3: Camera Battle!

My uncle is a professional photographer so I gave him my s5 and my friends g3 . He said the g3 auto focus if FAR more impressive than that of the s5 ( low light) , but he could not deny that s5 pics were better in terms of color reproduction as well as vids... He chose the s5 as the more impressive camera but saying that the g3 was very tempting though...

The S5 "is no slouch," "on paper." The S5 is "up to par." The laser focus is the only nice feature that the G3 has over the S5 but most of the head to head pictures looked more pleasing from the S5 to my eye.

He cheated. If you owned a galaxy s5, you may not have noticed that there is the piece of plastic over the camera lens which will make pictures look bad overtime. Look at 4:33 in the video and you will see it there. My point is, take off the plastic before you go comparing cameras.

The plastic is not over the sensor, it is surrounding it, so it does not influence the image.

Hows come one is shot in lower resolution than the other? 3:08 My pictures on my gs5 do not look like any of his pictures he took on his, he took the picture too fast for some of those. Sure ill give speed to the G3 but fuck if you cant take a proper picture with both invalid comparison especially at the time marked above. It doesnt take a genius to see the pixels blur with the GS5 picture. Cant believe that. lol

IMO I believe that it was more of a tie. Galaxy S5 has tons of features, such as Smooth video and other features. Also Galaxy S5 has water resistance.......nothing to do with the camera, but if your at the lake taking pictures it comes in handy. The LG G3 on the other hand has fast focus and takes great pictures in low light conditions. I believe in my opinion it was a tie not really a clear win for the LG G3.

"G3 has faster focusing speeds. Samsung reports .2 second to focus where G3 focuses at .274 seconds. Barely noticeable but G3 is not quicker. Basically a placebo effect. With its laser auto focus you would think and want it to be better. Also if you somehow broke that laser panel and/or go deeper into that, you'd be fucked.

The Samsung is slower. It focuses at .3 seconds. They did a test already. Don't forget, the g3 has multiple focal points and not 1. Also, the focus functions completely fine without the laser, but it does help.

I found out that the lg g3 factory setting only uses 10 mp of the 13. So it can be changed to 13. But does that only affect aspect ratio? Or is the images getting better?

I've had LG and Samsung galaxy phones. The LG phones are good quality, but there are never any android updates released for them. If you want to get the latest android, you're stuck using cyanogenmod.

For anyone who has the Lg G3 on their list of possible next phones. Whatever store you go in, to play around and check out the G3. In settings make sure the automatic dimness box is checked off. My G3 had it checked on, right out of the box, when I powered it on, for my first time. After that, go the gallery, and watch the two 4xHD videos. I didn't even know those videos were there, until after I purchased my G3. The videos looked crazy wonderful. I can't wait till the first android cell phone game, that is made for the resolution of this screen. Also, I'm all set if Netflix starts to stream movies above 1080p.

Not an improvement no, that is true but it makes design much more enjoyable, you gain a few extra customizable homescreen options that makes it look closer to android. It doesnt affect performance that much :). But yes, if you want to make the phone FASTER nova wont help.

G3 daylight pics are washed out. He takes a pic of his watch with the G3 and it's focused and takes the same pic with the s5 and is unfocused. He uses that as comparison. And states G3 is better, LOL!

Well..both cameras are amazing. I think the s5 can take a single better photo yet the g3 is better at taking consistent good photos outshining some not so good from the sometimes inconsistent S5. I have to admit the many features of the s5 are cool, however laser focus and ois are tangible reasons why the G3 takes focused photos more often, and with realistic color reproduction makes the G3 a little better

Jprete33, S5 camera isn't inconsistent, it doesn't take good pictures half the time, it takes good pictures period. It is the individual who is taking the picture that is inconsistent, with shaky hands and lack of knowledge to properly take photos.

Maybe that is true. I guess I cannot attest to that since I have a steady hand. But in one particular video on Android Authority the reviewer takes pictures of a moving subject and it was obvious the G3 captured details while the S5 was blurry. On a side note the G3 takes better low light photos which are important too.

I think it only works if you use the stock gallery app to view your photos/videos...a speed toggle should show up on the right side.

IMO the s5 camera is better. It's nice to have OIS in the camera but I really need it in video more than anything and the G3's ois doesn't support that. Things like live HDR and aqua mode matter to me so I choose the s5. Laser autofocus seems really cool though.

ois is mechanical and not software. its called ois+ because it has both normal ois and software enhanced ois. So yes it does work in video :)

No, the g3 has an optical image stabilizer and works perfectly. In image quality the g3 is much superior just because of the white balance it has is practically perfect and at night has a noise reducer that more than one would want. A camera is not better because it has more mpx, it is better because of the optics and quality of postprocessing software, and lg g3 has a very good postprocessing system and good optics. Compare the photos of the G3 at night with those of an S5, that's where the g3 gets the prize, and if at night it takes better pictures than an S5 means that for the day it eats with potatoes. Yes this video is definitely lg bias. I have a couple of friends with the g3, and we did our own run of photos. In the end three out of four of us liked the s5's camera better, and thought the s5's pictures were much better looking. Even in your posted pictures, the s5's look much sharper, and with better colour. The lg's pictures have a dungy colour to them. And in the bright light, there's really no comparison.

i don't know if the test was made with the shown on the video phones .. but if you have an S5 you know that after unboxing there is a little plastic protecting film on the lens that you need to take it off ... when it shows the two phones i saw that the film is stil on the lens ... all the photos are taken with it on the camera ??? if yes then the test is false ... i would recomend take the test again .. I'm the owner of an S5 and the photos are amazing .. i did test also the G3 .. also great photos ... but is not the point there ... if the S5 had the film stil attached then the test is not correct !!

Also about the specs I think is better to compare the 16g with 2 g ram G3 version vs the s5... The basic 2 g ram g3 is full of lag and problems.. The 3g ram version is about 100 euros more expensive. .. so no comparison between the two phones..

Comparison of camera features is the best part, showing LG3 went bare bones while Samsung includes more bells and whistles to play with your photos after the fact. Pros and cons to both approaches by LG and Samsung.

I have both phones plus gs5 lte-a and I can say that outdoors in good lightning conditions, it's not even about preference, the s5 and s5 lte-a are superior in every way. In low light they all are bad, maybe g3 less bad. But my point, specs don't matter in final results, so forget your beloved LG g3's ois+ and just look at the photos side by side. And video is better on the s5 and s5 lte-a, on all resolutions. I think the camera and screen are the only thing Samsung has going for it in these comparisons with the g3

The only advantage the g3 has is ois and laser autofocus isn't that great, it doesn't make it much faster or make a big difference. The g3 is basically the g2 with a new design and newer interface look.

Not true...the g3 has a removable battery SD card slot. 2 big differences the only thing that stayed the same from the g2 to the g3 was the 3000mah battery and the megapixel count on the camera

No, the lg g3 has a dim display compared to others and even compared to the g2. It also does not have accurate colors (its not a normal LCD, lg makes them over saturated themselves) and sometimes causes heating issues. The higher resolution won't make much of a difference at all. Not even close to the best

Wawaweewa Rice What phone are you trying to say is better? Sharpness, the screen is the best. Bezel=none Metal feel=true removable battery and sd card=true. OIS+, 4K Video, and laser auto focus separate this camera from the one found on the g2. The specs have been beefed up a lot. 3Gb of ram and snapdragon 801 clocked at 2.5ghz, not the 2.3 one or the 2.2ghz snapdragon 800. The only thing that truly remained the same is the battery capacity. Which lasts less with heavy use of the screen, but once again presents insane off-screen time. The smart keyboard is really awesome. Never typed this fast on a phone before. Especially from a stock keyboard. They also added a sound amp which makes this as loud as the m8. (Though not better sounding and more prone to distortion at high volume.) Overall though, this phone is amazing. I don't know what kind of better package you can find out there.

I love both phones and it's so hard to decide, but I think I would get the S5 only because after using both of them, I prefer TouchWiz, I love the camera, and out of every flagship that's out their, the S5 is the best in direct sunlight, at the same time LG did a spectacular job with their camera, and their UI is definantly getting their, but it's the little things like the multi tasking glitches and the awful multi window support that makes me go to the S5, still though, awesome phones, and this is coming from an ex iPhone user. Say what you will but these days, it's pretty hard to find a BAD flagship phone, unless your Amazon Fire Phone ;-D
