Galaxy S6/S7/S8: Black Screen Problem, Display is Blank? 15 Second Fix!!!

If you encounter a black screen on your Samsung Galaxy S6 or S7 (or S8) try to give it a hard reboot. Hang in there if it doesn't work right away! I had this problem with my Samsung S5. The LED buttons at the bottom lit up as my phone charged & and the phone vibrated, but the touch screen was blank & dark. Tried these tips and heard the phone reboot, but the screen was still blank after. I was so frustrated, because I thought I made the problem worse with the phone completely locked. Well I left my phone charging, and 2 minutes later I saw the screen flicker on and off for about 6-7 seconds, and then return fully back to life! I'm so happy this worked, this time! Appreciate the tips.

Same here, it works like every 30-40 tries and I can keep using it as long as I dont turn off the screen. I would change the screen, but its not available for another 3 months. (s7 edge). screen does still register touch though, I can enable flashlight from notification bar without seeing anything on screen. I have also noticed, pressing the top left corner helps to start the screen sometimes.

I was experiencing this today with my S6. I still can't believe it was that easy to fix it fantastic job !! Many Thanks !! Bud literally drove me mad today ... just got this thing few month ago, so I went straight in to a samsung shop in Oxford Circus. Not even trying to do this what you showed me ... they guy straight away advice me to charge it and if it's not turning on then it might be a screen problem, as it had a scratch on it. That replacement could of end up in a spending of £190. So in conclusion just so we could put this in to a logic perspective, Imagine sheep and a wolf ... sheep as the client and the wolf of course samsung ...

I did the hard reboot and the Samsung logo does pop up while the phone reboots, but the screen turns off again as soon as the phone turns on. I know that it is on because pressing the power button causes the LEDs for the back and multi-window buttons to turn on. Please help :(

i'm having this issue on my note 5 for the last two days. I can see the notification lights and both lights at the bottom but can't see the black screen. I can also hear msg notifications in the background. I took it for repair and a guy told me that I need to replace the LCD. Do i need to do that or is there any alternate fix?

my screen on my galaxy s6 is flickering this bright purple light when i turn my phone brightness down and also when i click the side button to turn off the screen it flickers then goes to the regular black screen then when i turn my screen back on it takes me several attempts to get the screen to turn on. all i did was drop it and im wondering if this is a fixable thing or should i just wait until my upgrade which is not for awhile

It worked! Thank you very much! The screen was black and a green LED was on, even though the phone wasn't plugged in. I preesed the 2 buttons simultaneously for about 7 - 10 seconds and the samsung logo magically appeared and the phone rebooted.

if this fails for anyone operating samsung s6 I just did a full system restore using a programme called odin. its annoying but patience pays off. mine is still a bit laggy but rather have this then no phone at all :)

It's a real easy fix brother man.. imma make a video next time my S6 active does it and show everyone how to exactly do it.. the reason the main reason these phones do it is because the display cable comes lose.. my S6 active has this issue it will go black screen if I drop it hard 60% of the time it will black out on me and another reason it goes back on me is when the phone gets cold.. I dunno why that happens but it does if I go out in the cold and lay my phone down on the porch rail or table outside in the cold and my S6 active gets cold the display goes black and does not come back on but u can hear the lock screen chime when u touch it and texts n Facebook notifications ect... now this is how u fix it if you have this issue it works every time for me with all my Samsung from my S6 to my S7 active even my Note 8 has done this which is very strange.. but my S6 active is the one that does it once a day to once a week.. " all you have to do is press the display on the top right corner it's one inch down and half to 5/8" to the left from the top right corner of the display itself that's where the display ribbon cable connection is on the S6 active. Now u press down on that area kinda hard and roll your thumb or thumbs around sometimes I use both thumbs to make sure I put alot of pressure on it to press that cable connector back in place.. and then press the power and Volume up.. and it resets and you'll see samsung S6 active pop back up pretty quickly within 5 to 10 seconds.. sometimes you can just press the buttons and hard reset the pos lol but if it resets and the display does not come on then in order to power the display back on you will have to press down over top of the connection port under the display.. and hard and then reset it and it will come back on if it don't work the first or 2nd just keep doing it because it will 110% come back on.. and don't worry about if your gonna break it the S6 active is a very very very tough S.O.B lol it can take your pressure from your thumbs.. it's not gonna hurt it at all.. now as for the S6 and S6 edge and S7 and S7 edge.... you may wanna be more careful because they are fragile phones but they can handle a hard press like that with no issue.. and the display connection on the S6 is on top where it says samsung it's that area.. and you would have to do the same.. now on the edge you can't do it.... you will have to take a heat gun or blow dryer and remove the back glass plate.. and you may honestly Crack the back in a few places it's really thin glass and it does Crack very easily.. but it's either u give it a shot and end up with a cracked back or have a black screen of death... the reason u can't do the press on the edge and edge plus is because on the standard edge the display and board are legitimate pretty much stuck together you can pull the back and even the aluminum bezzle and all u have is a beautiful curve display and a logic board stuck to it... and the cable is on the back so there isn't no magic press for the edge phones they have to be taken apart... but the actives and the S6 n S7 standard phones you just press the display above the connection and reset and your back to a working phone... Your Welcome lol

I've googeled it and it says that there's a chance that the connection between the display and the motherboard got loose during the drop.
