bezel operation was ONE of the things that set this line apart (I had a Gear S2)... sorry to see it go.. the Wrist watch form factor is by definition: tactile.. push, pull, twist.. etc.. I hope it comes back in another device..

I love my galaxy watch active. It's really cool. I do with it was bigger though. If it was the size of the fossil watch it would be perfect for me. I'm hoping that Samsung desides to stay with this design, make it bigger and add in a digital bezel along with LTE support in it's next Galaxy Watch upgrade. I would totally buy it

Typical of someone who is getting close to my "Use-by" date, I have been using spectacles with "Occupational" lenses. (These are progressive lenses with the upper part optimised for computer work, and the bottom for reading at a shorter distance.) They have been great, but most of the time I did not need to wear them. I had always looked at smart watches in shops, but the rigmarole of getting my specs out to read the screen meant it was not worth the hassle! I have recently changed to full progressive lenses, which means I now wear my specs all the time, SO... I bought a Galaxy Watch Active, did the updates mentioned below (automatically), and I absolutely LOVE it. A Galaxy Watch Active 2 would be even better, but currently at nearly twice the price, I can wait.

If the Galaxy active came out before the Galaxy watch, because of my small 5 1/2" wrist I would probably get this instead of the Galaxy Watch that I got last year. But now I am so use to the size I am still loving it and will not settle for a smaller watch without the bezel. This has replaced all my other good watches and became my every day watch, be just can't leave home without it. Great video as usual! 👍

Glad they came out with a smaller, sleek & more modern design. This is great imo for us people with small, thin wrists! Took a look at it in-store and I would love to get my hands on one of these but I'm not a person who would completely utilize all the features atm. Definitely on my list if I want a smart watch for Galaxy. I think they could work on the apps. The Galaxy wearable store is missing many apps that people would find useful.

when it comes to battery life for all smart devices. It always depends on the amount of apps/notifications you're running. Some say they get 3 days out of theirs. So at the end of the day it's all about the user and the amount of alerts you've got running.

Here from Christmas Eve 2019, and I just picked up this watch for $120! It may have a few limitations (like battery life) but I can't deny how awesome it is at this price compared to its competition. I returned my Fitbit Versa 2 for this watch, and I couldn't be happier. It's kind of sad really...since the GWA released alongside the Versa 1, and even now, it still beats the newer Versa 2 in almost every category except the aforementioned battery life.

People want a minimum of 1 week battery, but I completely disagree. I’ve owned more wearables then I care to admit and 3 day minimum is the sweet spot IMO. That coupled with a decent charge rate allows you to wear it all day and night, place it on the charger when you jump in the shower and be good to go.

Great review. Just got the galaxy watch active, used to have regular galaxy watch. The importance of small, slim smart watches cannot be overstated. I gladly sacrifice the rotating bezel and some battery life for a smaller, thinner smart watch.

Samsung has a timer built in. It's in one of the watch faces. Touch the smaller watches in the whole watch that tell you other things to activate it.

The reason they killed the physical bezel is because they made it a edge bezel swiping They only disabled it and had finally updated to include the feature. I'm guessing they didn't release on release/after a long time to work out the issues and reliability issues with sensor-based than physical wheel

I currently own the Samsung gear fit. I am paralyzed and I swim during the summer. I was wondering if I'm better off getting the Samsung gear sport rather than the active. The gear sport is larger with better battery life and it's waterproof too.

The problem with the galaxy watch series is not necessarily wanting a lot of app selections. The problem is that Samsung should allow services outside its own ( such as google assistant, google maps, etc, ) to be allowed a space in the app eco system. Of course they would never do this as they are trying to be independent, but it alienates the smartwatch consumer base, but dont want an apple watch. Samsung has great software on their watches, but its hindered by the inability to understand the marketplace.

When I got my Charge 3, it was because I had used a TicWatch before and realized that I didn't need a phone on my wrist. Yeah controlling the camera remotely is neat, but not practical. The Charge 3 is absolutely a tracker first and a watch second, but it's been awesome as a wrist piece, if a little less than visually exciting for the price. The two biggest points of interest: 7 day Battery life, minimal width. As a programmer with bent wrists all day, it's surprisingly important But I've been finding myself overall annoyed by how little FitBit cares about exercise tracking that doesn't involve GPS, such as the Treadmill and casual swimming. No I may not be swimming hardcore laps but I am swimming for a couple hours, thats GOT to contribute to my activities someho- no? Oh.. ok... I loved Samsung's health app. Beats the pants off of any packed in Health app, including Google Fit. But ultimately I want a wearable thats swimproof and can track elevation change. And now that my charge 3's screen somehow managed to get cracked after only 4 weeks if usage, I'm looking elsewhere

Good video. If I were in the market for a smart watch it wouldn’t be this one. Yes it’s cheaper but that horrendous charge time and the lift to wake not always working would be annoying for me. I’d buy the bigger model for the longer battery life and rotating bezel.

Rotating bezel set them apart from clunky Android Wear; without it can't see myself buying it. To go slim without killing battery, e-paper screens are a must. 2 day easily turns into 1 with always-on screen.

My Samsung Gear got stolen at the gym and I miss it .. Got this watch as a gift and I hate it .. Not even gonna bother pairing it to my phone. It's too small for my huge hands and the lack of the bezel disappoints me enough to not even want to try it out

I purchased the Active because of its mic, watch functions, display, and its small wrist size. I dislike the battery life, but the mic and doodle in text replies are nice, tho I forget to use them. The geek in me wants the bells and whistles then don't use them.

Hey Michael, I love your content but in this review you missed an important point. Samsung Pay is awesome because it supports NFC and MST (magnetic stripe) and the Samsung Gear S3 series has it. But Samsung took away the MST support. Being able to use Samsung Pay almost everywhere is awesome (due to MST support), and the exclusion of it on the Galaxy Watch is super disappointing.

Yep, used to cover the MST stuff but since Samsung made it pretty clear a generation ago that it was on its way out, it's kind of fallen off my radar. I live in a city where e payments are pretty common so probably a symptom of that too. Good point to consider though; thank you.

@@TheMrMobile No problem. I live in Spain (but I am from the US) and NFC is used practically everywhere. Oddly enough, a relatively new Costco store has the older MST terminals, and my watch comes in super handy there. Not only that, but it flips out the staff ... they say I am the only member that can pay by watch! It's a shame that Samsung is downplaying MST, because it was a feature that definitely one-upped Apple and Google Pay, and the there are tons of retail stores in the US that have older-style terminals.
