My gold panning technique uses the Backwash and Tap method as well as some simple panning. Combining the three gold clean up techniques I'm able to clean my gold quickly and without any losses.
This video is part of a series of lessons on how to clean gold from black sand concentrates using just simple gold panning techniques. I teach three techniques of cleaning your gold, #1 Simple gold panning, #2 the Tap method, and #3 the Backwash. Learning the correct gold panning techniques will help prevent losses when recovering your gold from your concentrates. Recovering fine gold from heavy black sands can be a challenge. Follow these gold panning tips and you can recover your gold with almost no losses.
Stay tuned for the fifth video in this series where I show how to pan for gold and use the "Backwash & Tap" method to separate gold from a hard rock crush concentrates.
This video is produced by Dan Hurd, Prospector, Miner, Teacher and KZbinr, as part of his KZbin channel based on educational videos about gold mining, gold panning, prospecting, rock hounding, and mineral collecting.

Dan I incorporated all your methods last night with some black sand and I had fantastic results. Now I can keep busy all winter going through my buckets of black sand. The gold is like a powder and very hard to pan but with your methods applied I found gold. Thanks for the great instructional video. Just fantastic!

Dan that was *****awesome!!! I was having problems separating my cons but you have saved the day my red headed friend! I sat here today and watched all four of your instructional videos of differing cleaning techniques (I didn't watch the floating gold video. I know gold floats.) I also watched about 12 of your other older videos from 2015. I WILL become a PATREON as soon as I get my truck paid off. Sorry for that, but I am a low income disabled US Navy veteran.

Every material has some sort of magnetic attraction, even gold, although it is very very weak. You could get a huge huge magnet and situate it up towards the top of the pan and it could help with keeping the gold at the top and the black sand at the bottom (that is of course unless the black sand more magnetic). Then you would just have to remove the other magnetic material from the gold after.

your work is perfect i don't use my little Garret pan ,i think the surface of the bottom is too small for finish clean and i notice you retake a little more gold from black line of sand with this small pan . for me ,i used less water in the finish by backwash ,the black sand don't make a line in middle of the pan but go in the bottom curve. i want to try to be better in adding tap method thanks for teaching
