You asked "Why That Spot?" From a fluid dynamics -kinda viewpoint, here's what I see : - Very sharp/acute angle top edge to the rock, - Near-vertical rock wall facing upstream - Rock face is near-perpendicular to the water flow. - Drop of about 30 cm (a guess) gives room for vertical-circulating eddies (gets a larger volume of water reflowing towards the base. - LONG extension of similar rock formation (not an isolated boulder) allowing more small-mass objects to becomed trapped behind it, eventually working their way to the channel-ward/downward side. Basically, you found a HUGE crevice 2-3 meters long. Why no larger bits of gold. I got no idea. Perhaps its under that water surface. or it has 'sluiced out' further up that reach Some day you might consider cutting a sample trench across that huge sandy region, but you'd have to hand-carry a high-banker all the way down there.... got any donkeys?

Dan, just had a thought. When cleaning the gold from the black iron sand, instead of using a strong magnet that would trap both sand and gold, what if you used an electro-magnet with a variable field strength? That way you could turn it down until the sand barely clings to it. Or stick a timer chip in there so the current pulses on and off, shaking the gold dust out of the sand? Just a thought, maybe I’m not seeing something correctly but might be worth a shot. Love the channel.
@jasonsmall62242 жыл бұрын
Sounds like something that would be great to see on video, play with black sands and a electro magnet and experiment with the whole field strength of the magnet

If he drys it out and fans the sand out the sand come out and the gold stays
@TheBloodypete2 жыл бұрын
Better would be have it fall past the magnet, so it pulls the black to the side and leaves the gold. The problem with trying to vary a magnetic field to do what you suggest would be the inductance of the coil fighting you. Not impossible if you know what you're doing, but would probably be a pain for an amateur!

I was interested to see so much garnet sand in this claim. Garnet sand has a value two ways. First is is an industrial abrasive that is recycled over and over as it gets smaller with use. Secondarily, it is a significant source of scandium (SC) which is in great demand for new technologies production. If you find the gold running out, consider the garnet. Also, if you have garnet sand, you probably have larger garnet in the cobble. At $500 a carat for a piece with minor inclusions to upwards or several thousand dollars per carat for deeper colors with fewer or no inclusions, think about maybe looking around.

That's a beautiful new claim Dan. It is always an inspiration to see what is out there. Thanks for sharing your adventures. Is that island / peninsula a different claim? When the water flow between dries up, - How do you know where the boundary is? Does the ministry have special rules about such transitional places? about distance and depth to prevent fouling the ponded water with silt and such? Me thinks your right about the new claim. You'll find gold everywhere, but mostly that flour "mustard" gold and small garnets. The heavier big gold and garnets probably washed out where that channel island ridge, soon to be peninsula is and /or in front of it. Although if you can go deep enough around the shrinking pond to find that muddy/gritty sand transition it might yield some bigger gold. Have fun and good luck.

I have an area close to my house that’s not able to be claimed because it’s one of the water sources for the North Seattle/Tacoma area…It’s completely packed with flour/mustard and small/medium flakes with an occasional small nugget down to 18 inches. I found what’s referred to as a skim bar. Essentially if you’re looking up river it’s a sand bar with the Main river channel on one side and a small stream on the other. When the river levels rise most of the sandbar is under water and it causes the heavies to build up on the edge of where the main channel and small side channel separate.(What’s referred to as the regular/normal water level mark) Once the water level recedes, the top of the bar that’s the furthest up river reforms into 2 points like a sideways pointed V > I can go and set up my high banker and a water pump for a couple of hours until the gold bug bite goes away.😂 The beautiful part of this is that it’s replenished every time that water level rises. It’s my own personal gold farm that’s constantly being refreshed lol

When you found those bits of copper wire it put a big smile on my face, since as a part time recycler I am more likely to find base metal than precious metals in my searches. I think you may have found one cents worth of copper in your panning. Don't take this as an insult, but your dad looks a bit like Red Green, and I mean that in the nicest way! I wonder how Red Green would have handled gold prospecting on his show, I suspect any gold sluice he built would have included the handy man's secret weapon- duct tape. One thing I'm surprised to not see Dan doing, is bringing a bit of fishing equipment with him as some of the places he prospects looks perfect for fishing!! Now on the my actual comment. LOL I used to watch a Gold Prospecting Show on cable. They do their digging off the coast of Alaska. If they got a pan that had as much small gold as Dan was finding they would be ecstatic!! Of course they're using large back-hoes to dig up huge amounts of material and using a floating operation that has a huge Gold Sluice to get all that fine gold in their cleanup matts making it well worth their while to keep digging in the area with all that fine gold. Now trying to do this by hand would take forever for it to financially payoff, if you could even get enough gold per-hour to begin with. I guess it would be worthwhile if your other choice of something to do is to Cruise the Internet, looking at random video's. So my choices would be, sit inside and get brain dead watching random Video's on KZbin or getting outside in some beautiful country and searching for some gold that could payoff financially, but just the getting out in nature part would be enough in my book! BTW, I'd bring some fishing equipment with me, just in case I saw a run of salmon or other game fish happening or the Gold prospecting was getting me frustrated. Always good to have a back-up plan if one thing doesn't work out. IMHO.. ;)
