A true gentleman, eloquent both verbally & musically; modest; man of the people; no "star" antics or pretensions. I saw him only once 1972 Xmas-New Year concert , Dublin National Stadium. A terrible, unnecessary loss to Ireland and far beyond. World's greatest guitarist , ever, with a true, rich singing voice. R.I.P. Rory.

I got turned into Rory Gallagher with the 1972 Live in Europe LP and thought no one else in Australia had ever heard of him, Then he came to Sydney and played at the Hordern Pavilion. When he picked up his ukelele and strummed the first chord of Going to my Home Town everyone entered into rhythmic clap in time with each stroke of the strings. An overwhelming feeling that everyone there knew his music was one of the most poignant moments in the hundreds of blues gigs I have attended. I took my fiance to his next Sydney gig in 1979 or 1980 where he blew us both away. Got most of his albums. Then in 2018 my wife booked our tickets to the Rory Gallagher Tribute Festival in Ballyshannon, Ireland...and that's another story! Keeping the memory alive!

Thank you so much for this. Rory was always my idol, but this doco really did him justice. He truly was a shy, polite, humble soul who transformed into an unstoppable genius the moment he walked on Stage. Couldn't help crying at the end as it's the ONLY time I had ever heard Rory say that he'd like to have a couple of albums in the charts, if only for others. This was only a year before he passed, yet he still desperately wanted to get his music out to his fans. That was what he lived for and I for one shall be forever indebted. RIP Rory.

"To do well for other People" .....well, Rory..... you certainly achieved this, in every sense.......... every unique album, every ounce of energy in performing, every lyric written.....all the instruments played..... what a complete and utter gem, you were and remain. What a sheer privilege it is to pick any one, of Rory's albums and listen to them....his music as relevant now, as when he originally made it.......what a gentleman, in every sense of the word.....I will ALWAYS REMAIN an adoring fan and hope to introduce more people to his very, very special music. RIP, dear, dear Rory, so missed by many of us.

As a proud member of the Freewheelers Mc Ireland ,Myself and two fellow brothers from the club attended Rory's funeral in Cork, one of the saddest days ever,we had all grown up watching and attending his Gigs, and as fellow Irishmen we were very proud of him, never mind the fact that he was World famous,he was Irish and that's all that mattered to us...May he R.I.P....GBNF.

Back in our very young days, in old London town when we were young our parents would send us to college gigs to see Rory Gallagher and his boys and get the education to last us a life time from this MASTER, been in his classroom was the very best thing that could happen, we came away knowing things which we have used all through our lives. When you have some spare time click on to KZbin and watch this human hurricane in action, The Master Musician Rory Gallagher and his boys going to town at full speed, shin kick going crazy suffering from the bullfrog blues and shadow playing at full pelt. What other person would walk on hot coals then thank his audience a million. Rory Gallagher that's who. How fantastic and brilliant it this. It is also beautiful to look at, it is the concord of the open road. If you need a backup driver just give me a call. I have only 1 condition, do not ask me to sharp turn when going at full blast.

No matter how Rory lived, everyone should know it for himself, it is his great guitarmusic, there was no better one than Rory and I listen to his songs every day, Rory was sick and delivered to the liver and had a successful operation in Holland. , they should not have transported him to England after that he got pneumonia and Rory died! Rory was a nice guy to see well developed, played on many instruments and he is for me a (GOD) Rory if you played for hours on end in the stands and your fans enjoyed it, I have never seen a other blues musician! Rory I love you and rest in peace! LG Elisabeth

we loved him very much in Germany and I still do love listening to his latest works after "Bad Penny" and some very interesting sound to blues music. Actually he recorded a lot in a German studio and I met that irish bro whenever I had the chance. Sadly he turned from a very sympathic and energetic guy into booze and medical drugs, became even despotic and unpleasant. The role of Gallagher was a very important part to european rock music at times of Hendrix, Johnny Winter, Santana and Cream and a very special proud to the Irish, I liked him much more than Clapton because behind each single note there was nothing but a sincere, emotional and energetic person some could identify with. We miss you but always will love you!

He was pretty much killed by National Health. Paracetamol (Tylenol here in the states) is well known as being liver-toxic. So Rory, well known as a drinking man, was prescribed a liver toxin. Nice job, NH. Cunts.

@@ktel60 I think you're wrong there. He had a private doctor and, he was given a mixture of different tranquilisers. My source is a 2009 article: 「“Where the ‘medication’ - for want of a better word - started to kick in was Rory’s fear of flying had flagged itself up, “Donal says. “I think it was the pressure. He was wearing too many hats for his own good. He was being his own producer, his own songwriter, his own manager…with all the mental strain, the flying tablets probably relaxed him, so he began to take them for other purposes. Of course, after a while they weren’t strong enough, so he was constantly going back to the doctor and upgrading. Rory was very discreet about it all. He’d go swallow them in the bathroom.” 「Donal didn’t gauge the extent of the problem until Rory began to have severe stomach pains and nausea. He says,”I managed to get him into a clinic, and the doctor there said,’You realize the problem is not so much the alcohol. It’s the pills.’ He lambasted Rory’s private doctor for prescribing the amount of stuff he had. It wasn’t any one prescription tablet, it was the combination. Throw in alcohol and you’re mixing a devil’s brew」 shadowplays.com/blog/?p=708

Well, yes. The abdominal pain was from the liver failure, brought on by the Paracetamol/Tylenol/Acetaminophen. Everyone knew Rory was a drinkin' man, and every doctor outside of the UK knows not to prescribe Paracetamol (&c) to a drinkin' man. If he'd just disregarded the 'advice' of his physicians and changed to an 'over the street' painkiller he might still be with us, and kicking Keith Richards's ass in cutting sessions. Keith, he said 'fuck you, I likes my cocaine and my diacetyl morphine" Look who's alive now. Rory was a dear sweet gentle trusting man who, to the best of my knowledge, never said 'fuck you'. To anyone. Perhaps he felt a type of fealty to his physician, misguided as it might have been . But the NHS killed him.

Check out the documentary entitled " Ghost Blues: The Story of Rory Gallagher" . In the documentary Donal Gallagher describes the medications Rory was taking which ultimately destroyed his liver. Aside from his consumption of Guinness/Stout, and a type of anti-anxiety medication for Rory Gallagher's aviophobia. Donal didn't mention the drug by name, however, my guess it's a type of benzodiazepine. Taken in moderation, as prescribed, the two are harmless. There was a "third" medication Donal Gallagher described, "Steroids". Personally, I believe Rory Gallagher was the victim of outright quackery. The idea of prescribing "Steroids" is insane, steroids to treat aviophobia?? Steroids are used for the treatment of various ailments, however, they don't apply to Rory Gallagher's condition. For all you Rory Gallagher fans world wide, check out the documentary Ghost Blues: The Story of Rory Gallagher, one of the greatest guitarist of all time. A true rarity, the love of music, his devotion to his fans, his refusal to write "top ten, radio friendly" pop musac, a truly approachable gentleman, and yes, Rory Gallagher wasn't in it for the money. Rest in peace Rory Gallagher, you are sorely missed.

i'm a huge fan but above all else i wonder how on earth does somebody drink like that and still function?!?!? i'm a musician myself and i can barely play at all when i drink let alone tear it up like he did. when i was at my worst as a drunk i never drank anywhere near like he did and i was a total mess let alone was i anywhere near a successful entertainer! i also gotta say as a yankee how an irishman can live, eat and breathe americana like that is beyond amazing.

Here in the USA Rory's known as a great player, but only to the guitar cult. Chicks never got the exposure to him. Looking at the crowd responses, there were women wanting to rip his flannel shirts off. Here in the States, it was only guitar playing dudes at the shows. I showed some pics to my current girlfriend, and she said 'OMFG! So Hawt!'. I saw him in Houston in 78 or so, and my girlfriend of the time decided that it was more important to do some lines with her cousin in an apartment next door to the Texas Opry House. The only women in the crowd were behind the bar. Their loss.
