Gerry was a substantial part of the success of Rory. Man, what a rock solid bass lines! Am a bass player myself and hear many bass players not timing right, a bit after the beat. Gerry never did that. Always right on the beat, also in slow songs, which made it sound so incredibly tight. Rory must have had a thorough base from that to go loose on it. The same goes for Ted on his drums, by the way.

Hi Gerry! Thanks for mentioning that special gig at the Ulster Hall, it was January 1st 1972 I was only 12 years old and went with my neighbour who was older than me but a complete Rory and Taste fan. I still have the ticket in my Rory Gallagher scrap book. It was my first gig and you guys made the front page of Melody Maker that week. What an experience it was for me, means a lot that out of all of Gerry’s gigs that he did with Rory he remembered and mentioned that one. 🌌💕🌠🕊🙏🌅Best wishes to you Gerry from the County Antrim coast . Thank you for the music 🌅🌠👌🏻

Watching Gerry and Rory on stage with their almost telepathic awareness of each other shines and comes across every time as two musicians at the peak of their powers. The drummers came and went, and very good they were too, but Gerry was a monster on the bass and Rory was one of the best guitarists ever. This humble, shy, special man truly was a one off. RIP maestro.

Interesting vid. I saw RG in concert twice; once in 1972 and once in 1980. The 1972 gig was at the Pier in Portsmouth (or maybe it was the Guild Hall) anyway, the only amplification Rory had there, was his Vox AC30, which seemed very inadequate, for the venue. The 1980 gig, at the Lewisham Odeon was mesmerising. It was him at his best, I'd say.
