A lot of fans thought that the voice of the simulant Don Henderson was generated with special effects but it was his actual voice, he was terminally ill with throat cancer at the time and died a few months after filming. also the explosion to the gazebo was so destructive it set off car alarms and attracted complaints from nearby resident's. According to the cast some windows also broke and peoples paintings fell off their walls...The reason why the explosion was so big was because the crew always complained how explosions in the show were never 'epic' enough, so in this episode they decided to change this by using c4...

For the scene where Kryten uses the tank to blast the gazebo, they got the local army camp involved. The reason? They wanted a slightly larger explosion than is normally allowed for safe, non-military purposes. Unfortunately, the army people were a little /too/ enthusiastic, and they wrapped that poor gazebo in so much explosive that bits were found miles away, and windows from houses (non-army, also miles away) were broken. The crew were also warned by the army not to warn the locals, or to apologise after the fact - otherwise they'd have to start doing that too!

I'm glad you two are picking up on the "girl tropes" of Doug's writing for this season. However, in his (rare) defence for this one, this Pride and Prejudice stuff was more of a bit-too-late cultural reference: the Colin Firth adaptation of Pride and Prejudice had aired on the BBC 13 months earlier, and was MASSIVE at the time. That "laughter" at the start of the Gelf bit - it sounds canned? Another thing I noticed was Robert Lllewellyn's English accent slipping out in both roles during this one. One horrible thing about this episode is that Don Henderson's voice wasn't an acting choice, but the result of throat cancer. RIP.

While yeah Kochanski is a bit of a female stereotype, i dont think it was really intended intentionally or mean spirited... I mean you have to realize Cat, Rimmer, Krytan and 1000x Lister are all male stereotypes... so any of Kochanskis female stereotypes they play into kinda stand out in all that blokeyness. I mean in the interest of equality, if most of us can nod our heads at some of the gross stuff Lister can do or the mentality of Rimmer and say 'well yeah as a guy we've all/Ive done that', then the same can be said for the other side of the equation. Stereotypes and self deprecating humor like with alot of comedy typically isnt trying to be mean, its only when its framed in a manner that it can only be taken as a genuine insult that it becomes bad.
